The gubernatorial election for a governor occurs every four years. The
current governor for Texas is Rick Perry. Rick Perry has served the State of Texas
for 12 years or 3 terms. During his serving time he has reduced general revenue
spending, kept taxes low, increased the accountability of schools and raised the
expectations, and decreased the crime on the border. His term is almost over, so
therefore there are new people running for office, this year for the Democratic Party
Wendy Davis is running for governor and Leticia VandePutte is running for
lieutenant, and for the Republican Party Greg Abbot is running for governor and
Dan Patrick is running for Lieutenant governor.
Wendy Davis didn’t grow up in the perfect circumstances she was raised by a
single mother and had three siblings that she had to work to support. She didn’t let
her rough background keep her from achieving her goals; she was the first in her
family to obtain a bachelor’s degree. But she didn’t stop there she worked hard to go
from Tarrant County College to TCU and eventually to Harvard Law School. She has
served nine years on the Fort Worth city council and has been a senator for Texas
since 2008. Wendy Davis’ issues she plans to address are education, strong
economy, veterans, women, public safety, and border security. For education Wendy
Davis hopes to reduce standardized tests from fifteen to five, expand pre- kindergarten programs by ensuring that all schools offer this program, hire and
maintain high quality teachers by raising their pay, and lastly increase access to
higher education by making it more possible to obtain college credits in high school.
Wendy Davis also strives to maintain a strong economy by making c...

illegal immigrants, enhance smuggling laws, prohibit the knowing-employment of
illegal immigrants, and increase the border security officers. For education he will
make Texas the leader for school choices, expand parent’s rights, increase the
overseeing by the State Board of Education in the student curriculum, protect the
innocent in schools, and guarantee students reading by the 4th
cutting wasteful government all together. And lastly he will continue to defend
traditional marriage and Texas vs. Washington.
In Conclusion the gubernatorial election occurring soon has good contestants
and great promises for our state. Just a few being addressed are the schools,
veterans, border, child protection, and human trafficking. Rick Perry will be leaving
the Texas government in good hands with whomever is elected next.

The office of president of the Republic of Texas was superseded and the state governor was first established in the Constitution of 1845 (“Phillip, Fry,” 2010) The Constitution of 1845 vested executive power in the governor and the election was done by the qualified voters of the State. In comparison, the Constitution of 1876 created plural executive, dividing the executive power among a governor, lieutenant-governor, Secretary of State, comptroller of public accounts, treasurer, commissioner of the general land office, attorney general and all of the officers of the executive department. All of these positions are elected by qualified voters except the Secretary of State who is appointed by the governor. The governor remains the commander-in-chief of the army and navy of the State and the militia in both the Constitutions. Also, the Constitution of 1845 placed a limit on the governor’s salary to two thousand dollars annually, which was amended on November 2, 1954 removing this limit. Although there has not been much change in the requirements to become a governor, the Constitution of 1845 limited the governor to two two-year terms in six years compared to the four-year term in the Constitution of 1876 (“Constitution of Texas,” n.d.; “Texas Constitution,” n.d.)

The Governor of Texas needs to not only be a citizen of the United States, but also reside in Texas for at least five years immediately preceding the election in order to fully understand the policies Texas residents’ are dealing with, the culture of Texas, as well as how Texas’ political decision impacts the rest of the nation. Both the President and the Governor are required to give an address to the legislatures, which cover very similar topics. The President’s State of the Union address “…recommends to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient;” while the Governor of Texas gives the Condition of the State in which, “…he shall recommend to the Legislature such measures as
In the youth of Texas, the Democratic Party enjoyed electoral dominance on all levels of state government and in the representation in the national government. Democratic rule was dominated by a conservative white political elite that strongly promoted economic development, but that resisted change either in race relations or social programs for the poor ("Texas Politics," 2009). Republicans were not completely absent during this period, but their electoral victories were few and limited in scope ("Texas Politics," 2009). In every election after 1980, however, the Republican strength grew into the now dominant rule that currently reigns in Texas. Since the 1990’s, the Republican Party, despite the attempts of others, has had a stronghold on the state government. With that being said, the Republican Party has dominated the overall elections.
In 1857, Lubbock was chosen lieutenant legislative head of Texas as a Democrat however flopped in his reelection offer in 1859. Taking after the Confederate withdrawal in 1861, Lubbock won the governorship of Texas. Amid his residency, he bolstered Confederate enrollment, attempting to
In the great state of Texas, the governor is the highest ranked official that is elected. Even though it is believed the governor has minimal power due to EJ Davis and his abuse of power in the 1800’s, the governor still has an influence on many things and has the power to implement things as well. According to the Associated Press (2011), “The governor’s chair is an increasingly powerful institution in most states, with the clout, control, and visibility that has long made it the leading stepping stone to the oval office.” (Associated Press [AP],2011). The governor of Texas is the head of the executive branch and the commander-in-chief of the state’s military forces. One key role the governor has is the power to appoint or select members to
Texas and local politician presentation and discussion Ted Cruz was born on Dec 22, 1970 in Calgary, Alberta to Eleanor Elizabeth Wilson Darragh and Rafael Bienvenido Cruz. Shortly after Ted Cruz’s birth, the oil industry slumped in Canada, causing his parents to have to sell their seismic-data processing company. At the age of three, Ted Cruz’s father divorced his mother and moved to Houston. It was not until, six months later, that Eleanor moved to Houston with Ted, and remarried Rafael. Despite the marital issues with his parents, he still retained a close relationship with both of them.
Sadly, Rick Perry did not win re-election because he represented his State well; he won because of name recognition and financial backing. Incumbents generally know their way around the political world and can finagle challenges that only an experienced leader can manage. Texas could get a strong community leader who is steadily pushing forward by securing the State with jobs, healthcare, crime reduction etcetera. To replace a governor like this, just when the momentum begins to pick up speed, would be a travesty. However, Texans do not have the luxury of taking a chance on the possibility of a formidable opponent leading the State without term limits. The longer a governor is in office, the more enticing it becomes to follow the money.

Governors are expected to be leaders of their political party, but they do not control the party. Governors can surely influence their party but cannot have the upper hand in all decisions. In the one-party era in Texas often control was based on a personal following rather than a well-organized party structure. There can be tension between the party and the governor especially during a primary election with a tough
Governors of Texas play major roles in all aspects of the powers of each branch within the government. Texas’ governors share the same responsibilities as other state governors but with only a few differences. The role of the governor is to head a public organization as a leader or chief by directing or controlling it. Texas governors, as well as other state governors, are limited with their powers of what they can control and what they can not by way of the statues dictated in their state constitutions.

The Governor is the chief executive officer of the Texas government. It is widely reported that that the Governor of Texas holds a weak office. There exists a little truth in this statement as the Texas Constitution holds the gubernational power where the executive holds some power and as a result multiple centers for power and authority exists. The limitations imposed on the office of the governor can be resolved by the skill and strength of the individual’s personality who act as the governor. (McCall, 2010 pp 3). As per Paul Burka “The fundamentals of governing are candor, competence, loyalty, and leadership.” Thus, the power depends on the person who holds the office. The office of Governor of Texas as it exists today was established
When looking at the system and diversity of Texas many may realize qualities that we might label "Texan" will be partial, consistent, may not be applicable to all people in state, and maybe divergent. Texas is home to a huge diverse population – billions of people in a larger territory – with a variety of ethnic and racial backgrounds, economic interests. To be a Texan you will be independent, stony individual, purposeful, and proud, religious; respectful of authority and distrustful of government. Texas political culture is boiled down to three ideological tendencies: economic liberalism, social conservatism (values and moralism), and populism, which is promoting the rights of people. Political culture is a people's framework of values,
While in school, Mom didn’t have it to easy. Not only did she raise a daughter and take care of a husband, she had to deal with numerous setbacks. These included such things as my father suffering a heart attack and going on to have a triple by-pass, she herself went through an emergency surgery, which sat her a semester behind, and her father also suffered a heart attack. Mom not only dealt with these setbacks but she had the everyday task of things like cooking dinner, cleaning the house and raising a family. I don’t know how she managed it all, but somehow she did.
