I had the opportunity to view The Greatest Showman at the Megaplex Theatres – Jordan Commons on January 14, 2018. The presenting organization was 20th Century Fox. This film was first premiered in 2017 and was directed by Michael Gracey. The screenplay was by Jenny Bicks and Bill Condon, while the music was composed by John Debney and Joseph Trapanese. Major actors that were in the film were Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya. The Greatest Showman was a wonderful film to watch, because of the message that it displays, the choreography, and the musical effects. The review will focus on the plot summary, description, and analysis of the film. During the 1800’s, P.T. Barnum (Hugh Jackman) was born into the …show more content…
Overall, I was very impressed with the choreography of all the characters throughout the scenes with their modern and classical dance moves. The songs were of high quality and sent a message. At the beginning of the film during “The Greatest Show”, P.T. sings “It’s everything you ever want. It’s everything you ever need. And it’s here in front of you. This is where you want to be”. He also sings this at the end of the film, and there is a scene where he is with his family. The message I took from this was that some things that you ever need in life may be simple, such as having a family and enjoying time with them. We get caught up and focus on our success of our careers that we sometimes forget to spend time with our families and loved ones. What stood out to me from this production was the incredible acting and sounds. It made me feel that I was part of the actual audience within the film watching their performances when they were …show more content…
It gave me an idea of how people acted, looked like, and lived during the 1800’s. Michael Gracey (director) made the camera work and backgrounds fit into the scenes. This positively affected my experience while watching by having me interested throughout the film. The actor’s performances were appropriate for the scenes and situations that they were in. Hugh Jackman played P.T. very well, with the desire of wanting more which creates conflict within the film. Zac Efron and Zendaya were an outstanding romantic duet, which created separate drama and romance besides what was in the main character’s (P.T. Barnum) life. The actors met the expectations of the plot and their timeline by acting cheerful, saddened, or frustrated when it was
One of the main products of this movie that popped out to me was the stars. They all seemed to be great actors even though I only knew one of them. For example, I thought that Ian Michael Smith did a great job portraying Simon Birch. He made the movie cute and funny all at once. I also thought that Joseph Mazello did a great job portraying relatable feelings in the movie. You could tell by his facial expressions what his mood was. All the actors did a great job and I can’t pinpoint one of them who did worse than the
When it came to the dialogue of the production and the understanding of it the performers again did an excellent job. Their gestures and vocal elements all aided in the production’s success and were all fittingly used by the characters. For example, when Lala was talking on the phone with Peachy she casually twirled the phone cord in her hand, leaned against the banister and childishly flirted with Peachy.
The first thing about this film that caught my eye from a sociological perspective is that the society in the film is not depicted as a “perfect society” as most films do, instead it shows the real conflicts that society had back then with certain subjects. The film shows us the prejudices, and misconceptions that people had about things like sex, and homosexuality at the time.
In one particular scene, director was truly a great one, featuring special focus on his dad life and the Colorado River. It was so cool to highlights of the movie by one of his favorite poem written by his dad when he was born, the Important Place. Also, this film was a good length, not excessively long but long enough to tell the story. This is really important today there were no such unwanted scene in the film, which literary the most closely and accurately delivered. In my opinion, this film is forced to possess the characters of a great aspect, and turns to make for quite the adventurous. There was no special character encounter rather than his dad, learned something from the secret Colorado River. Another great aspect of the film was the special footage that were introduce in this film was an enjoyable aspect to be a good documentary film, and that’s how this film is different from the rest.
The sound design and choreography intensified the overall musical. They created the time, place, and mood through rhythm and great energy. The actors had wireless, behind the ear mikes, that attached to the mike pack which amplified the sound, making it very clear. I could easily understand what they were talking about or singing.
Even though there is a great amount of audience participation, one really has to turn your attention to the actors in the movie. It takes a special kind of person to really understand the movie they are in.
In conclusion, everyone who enjoys the magic of Broadway and the fantasy world of Hollywood must watch Chicago. Although it is at most difficult to translate a stage musical to an Award-winning film, the vision of director was carefully carried making Chicago a very enjoyable film for the whole family.
While waiting for the movie to play there was lots of laughter and chatter. Everyone, including myself was excited to see this particular movie for many reasons. For me I had heard that it was a good movie for other friends, also I had previously viewed the trailers and was excited to see the actresses together in a movie. The theater instantly got quiet as the movie began. The sound track
There are famous people all around and their fans are loving every second of it. The fans' faces are full of joy and awe as their favorite actors and actresses enter the large building that will soon be showing the new movie. Soon, the two people that everyone in Hollywood is dying to see, appear in their stretched Rolls Royce and bring the crowd to its feet. As Lockwood and Lamont exit their luxurious ride they are received lovingly by everyone. They walk to the front of the building and are introduced to the crowd.
The music suited the movie very nicely. By the type of music playing, you could determine what sort of scene was coming up, either fast and light...
middle of paper ... ... The scenery was great because it was very descriptive compared to the scenes in the novel. The use of Computer Generated Imagery technology was perfect because it highlighted the scenery making it very vivid, realistic and pleasurable to the eye. The costuming used in the film was very creative, wonderful and perfect because it suited each of the characters class, personality, and it also suited the time period of the 1920s.

...s to educate about an important figure in Irish history. Michael Collins played a key role in the Anglo-Irish treaty. I believe this film covered many historical issues and even some that did not directly affect history but I found it interesting that Michael Collins and Harry Boland were very close and they both were charmed by Kitty Kiernan and that Michael Collins was actually engaged to her at the time of his death. This movie provided a lot of insight into what has happened in 19th century Ireland. The movie seems more that 90% historically accurate with the added bells and whistles to keep the audience watching but the scenarios with a few changes seem to fall in line with history. I did enjoy the film and I learned a lot from watching it with my son. I believe that this movie gave him a head start on these events that took place in 19th century history.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching ‘The Greatest Showman’ and I applaud its excellent use of colour, music, and words to capture my attention; teach me valuable lessons; and leave me wanting more. As someone who pays particular attention to detail; works meticulously with every task given; and plays music, I appreciate the detail Michael Gracey put into the film - using carefully chosen colour, impassioned music, and small yet significant events, such as the old hag handing an apple to a young P.T. Barnum which inspires him to create the circus. The flamboyant costumes and dances ensure that the audience never loses interest and that they receive the grand display they expected from the opening scene and more.
