Whose Dream Was More Accessible

After reading The Great Gatsby and Of Mice and Men I have came to the conclusion that both books were brilliant masterpieces of American literature. Even though on the cover and in the first twenty or so pages the books may seem very different and about completely different subject. However that statement could not be any more inaccurate. Both books are about Men trying to reach a goal, or a dream that the have set out to get. Jay Gatsby wanted to live the perfect millionaire life that a 17 year old boy would have dreamed of during the roaring twenties, and George and Lennie wanted their own house and ranch during the great depression. Readers should not be arguing between how similar the books where, but they should be arguing on who's dream is more accessible. …show more content…

Was it Jay Gatsby or at the time James Gatz who as a poor farming boy dreamt of becoming rich and living the high life. Or George and Lennie who always dreamed of owning their own ranch and living on the fat of the land. In order to truly understand whose dream was more accessible you have to take the setting and their lifestyles under consideration. Both George, Lennie and Gatsby where poor farmers who dreamt to have their own property and a reasonable amount of money. Unlike “The Great Gatsby”, “Of Mice and Men” takes place during the great depression which was a far worse time to try to buy land than The roaring twenties which is the time setting of “The Great Gatsby”. To me George and Lennie's dream was more accessible than Gatsby’s far fetched dream. The reasoning for my decision are simple but yet complex because who have to understand the complexity of both of the men's dreams to understand why I decided that George and Lennie's dream is more
