For example, Leonardo Dicaprio’s character of Gatsby was focused on emotions. I enjoyed that Redford was very calm and cool about everything and the way he approached the character but, Dicaprio made such an open and outgoing character which made the movie more entertaining. DiCaprio captured Gatsby’s intensity and charm and brought out the crazy mood swings and took his character and the audience to a more emotional place. Both Robert Redford and Leonardo DiCaprio had their own way of approaching the character and really selling Gatsby but Leonardo DiCaprios was better. Another reason I prefer the 2013 version of the 74’ is because of the bond and friendship Nick Carraway played by Tobey Maguire and Gatsby had MaGuire was able to bring a true and strong meaning to their friendship that made his and Gatsby’s bond feel organic and real and you were able to see that clearly unlike with Waterston where you just saw the friendship and didn’t feel any emotion. But I felt much more of a connection with his character than I did with the ’74 version. If you have read the book and seen the original film, then you understood where Nick was coming from in the scene where he was furious with Gatsby, after he believe he killed Myrtle only to find out that Gatsby wasn’t the one driving the car that killed Mrytle, MaGuire, did a fantastic job in showing his emotions and how what happened to Myrtle and the person that killed Myrtle affected him. I loved that Nick was a lot more real in this movie. He didn’t hold back and he gave the audience a reaction that anyone in life would have had if they were in his situation. Nick had the major issue of being dragged into situations because of people he knows. I thought Maguire did a great job of showing ... ... middle of paper ... ...the 2012 film. And unless you are paying close attention you would completely miss Myrtle Wilson played by Karen Black in the 1974 version and Isla Fisher in the 2013 version besides the party scene in the apartment and her getting killed she is barely noticeable. Jason Clarke played a less wimpy version of George Wilson and he was abusive towards Myrtle. And looked capable of murder and if it wasn’t for the book he would probably flee instead of killing himself. Scott Wilson looked like a sad puppy throughout the movie and very pitiful and it seemed as if Myrtle was abusive towards him. He looked incapable of murder but also as if he would snap at any moment and would commit murder. In the end actors in the 2013 film I would say showed a lot more emotion through and through instead of concealing it and that is something that I enjoyed more than the 1974 version.
The characters make a big difference in the movie and the book. One thing they both have in common is that Otis Amber and Berthe Erica Crow get married. And that Edgar Jennings Plum and Angela Wexler get engaged instead of Doctor Denton Deere. Also Jake Wexler is a gambler instead of being a bookie.
There was a vast amount of differences between the old movie and the book. One would be that in the book Victor had gone to university and got a lab and created the creature there while in the movie the creature was made in an old abandoned castle type structure. Another difference would be that in the movie Victor and his apparent best friend acted more like they hated one another and Henry was trying to steal elizabeth from Victor. While in the movie Henry was Victor's closest and most dearest friend and they went everywhere together. And these are just two from a long list. But these differences are very important because they are what create the story and what bring the book and movie to life. They are what make the book timeless while the old movie is just that,
Although most of the characters were portrayed the best that they could be, Daisy was not. In the book Daisy is said to have “The voice of money” (Fitzgerald 127). However, in the movie she talks more sweetly and not at all how I expected her to be played. In the novel, Gatsby’s father shows up to the funeral and shows Nick the journal that Gatsby had had when he was younger and talks about how proud he is of Gatsby but unlike the novel, the movie does not have this scene (Fitzgerald 180-182). However, the movie shows that no one came to Gatsby’s funeral except all the paparazzi that showed up to take pictures of him in his casket (The Great Gatsby). I feel this should have really been included because it showed a little more insight into the life of Jay Gatsby. The last and final difference I have about this comparison is about the scene where Daisy is going to visit Nick for tea. The book really did not include many details about how Nick’s house looked after Gatsby had sent everyone over to “get it ready” (Fitzgerald 89-90). When this scene occurred in the movie, I was really thrown off because of how decorated it was. Especially all the flowers that had been brought over to Nick’s house. It was filled to the brim with flowers which made the scene more awkward than it should have
Each version also has the main characters boarding up the windows. Anyone who thought the birds won’t attack are usually found dead, but in the movie they are found with their eyes pecked out. Also, both the story and the movie have REALLY bad endings! They aren’t very similar, but they both leave you hanging. When you see a movie or read a book you want to know what happens to the main characters. In these two, you didn’t get an ending. They left you hanging and for some people that ruins it all.
Jay Gatsby’s funeral is a small service, not because that 's what was intended, but because no one bothered to show up. Nick wanted to give Gatsby the popularity he desired, even in death, but only three people were present in the end. Gatsby’s father, Henry C. Gatz, shows up unexpectedly from Minnesota because he heard about the news in the papers. He believes that the man who shot his son must 've been mad, that no one in their right mind could commit such a horrible act. Daisy and Wolfsheim, the people closest to Gatsby in the book, do not attend. This exemplifies that it was always about wealth and social status for them, including Tom, and they never genuinely cared for Gatsby. Nick held up hope,
Although I will always love the original, the script, the movie was so fun to watch. We got know why lady bracknell is who she is since she apparently was a dancer and got life by having a baby. We found out instead of hugging miss prism got engaged to dr. chasuble which was interesting. Scott Fitzgerald and watch the 2013 version’s movie. While the book and the film are pretty similar; there is one major different between the book itself and the movie.
The Great Gatsby is an American novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in the early twentieth century. A renowned novel regarded as a literary classic which explores the concept of the American Dream, conveyed through a narrative by Nick Carraway, who unravels the story of Jay Gatsby, a newfound wealthy man in an endeavor to rekindle a romantic relationship with his first love, Daisy Buchannan. The novel is survived by the 2013 Warner Bros. motion picture The Great Gatsby featured Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. Although both the novel and the film are exemplary works of art, the film supplies a realistic value which the novel fails to produce.
There are many differences between the movie The Great Gatsby and the book written by Fitzgerald The plot and the setting of book and movie are very similar. There was a lot of things borrowed from the book, but there was a lot changed as well. The movie followed the plot of book very closely and portrayed the setting of the book very well. A lot of the dialogue was borrowed and spoken directly as it was in the book. The movie did an excellent job portraying the 1920’s and the parties that happened at Gatsby’s house.
