The good life project is an assignment that asks us to find a fictional character from a television show or movie; who has a life that we aspire to have. The character that I choose for the good life project is Michael Scott from the NBC show The Office. Michael Scott was the key reason for the greatness of the show. He is generally considered one of the greatest television characters to ever be created. In the show Michael Scott is the regional manager at Dunder Mifflin paper company in Scranton Pennsylvania. He is a middle age man who lives in Scranton and is moderately successful in his work life because he is a hard worker, but not so much in other key areas of his life. Michael sees himself as not being successful in his personal life …show more content…
He believes this because "The people that you work with are, when you get down to it, your very best friends." He is constantly described as fun-loving and entertaining because he frequently sees the good in things in life and even in bad situations he tries to make it better by making jokes. I believe that Michael Scott has the good life because of this reason. If you want to have the good life, I believe that you must have the ability to see the good in the face of darkness. Love is also an important attribute in the good life and Michael Scott shows us this. Throughout the show he is willing to do anything to make the lives of his employees’ better. He wants to give them something to smile about every time they go to because he knows that life is tough and that they have to go through hard ships. I choose Michael Scott because of this and without the ability to love one another you will not see someone as a creation of God. I also choose him because I believe it is important to be able to see good in the face of darkness. Without this ability you will always succumb to evil when you are faced with a challenge; you will never be able to stand up for the good in our
...ng himself or his family, he seems to know an awful lot about life and how things ought to be. The part of Mike seems to be the most likely of the characters to be the mouth piece for the shows creators, writers and producers. Rarely is Mike made to look silly or ignorant. On occasion Archie will have the upper hand but for the most part when Mike and Archie are debating, Mike through a well articulated view is usually the victor.
Throughout Mike’s life, he had the fortunate experience of having some inspirational mentors. I have identified four of his numerous mentors as the most critical to his development, both educationally and personally.
Paul’s nickname was “ambition” because he was the only one with ambition in his life. Mike Otis is a main character that is certainly not popular at Don Carey High. He is an unusual person who is shy and he keeps to himself. He always wears a big raincoat and safety pins in his jeans. Mike is a dweeb who minds his own business.
Soon after the story begins we get an insight into who Michael truly is. One could easily describe him as a Meek young man, as the narrator states Michael is very unsure of himself while asking the townspeople questions on the subject of the whereabouts of the Hangman. Though, his insecurities do not stop him from his ability to do his job. To be a decent writer you have to be observant, which fits Michaels personality perfectly. While describing the Hangman's appearance he notices small details that most people would skim over. Describing him as “a little fellow, without
Mikes father had died when he was only a little boy and you’d never believe it by looking at his mental state. The financial problems he went through being that he left an exceptional job in place for volunteering all his time toward Klal Yisroel, was only something such a holy person could handle.
his life in a major way. Mike’s biology teacher encouraged him to the best at everything and to
Michael went from being useless on the field when joining the team, to becoming incredibly good through his team. Before he goes to Briarcrest, Michael Oher has no family taking care of him, and he has no future. Michael needs someone: “Big Mike was going to drop out,” said Big Tony. “And if he dropped, out he’d be like all his friends who dropped out: dead, in jail, or on the street selling drugs, just waiting to be dead or in jail” (3). With no one to guide Michael, he has no future ahead of him....
The Office is a documentary that mockingly looks into the humorous and somewhat realistic daily occurrences of the typical office life. Furthermore, I personally find that The Office is able to surface certain issues and stereotypes that exist in the workplace and society. The show mainly focuses on the delusional branch manager, Michael Scott. He believes that he is not only the best manager but also the coolest one there could be. Personally, I believe the directors of the show purposely made Michael Scott to represent the repressed hegemonic social issues in society.
Candide: The Impossibility Of The Happy Life This paper's focus is Voltaire's view of human happiness. Specifically, it will argue that Voltaire, in Candide, says that human happiness is impossible. Voltaire believes this for three reasons. First, Voltaire presents mankind in the novel spending all its life worried about personal problems of the moment. When people in Candide have no problems, Voltaire indicates, they do not feel happy but become bored instead.
Dr. Smilkstein’s learning process is brilliant. The Natural Human Learning Process describes the six steps that the human brain goes through when learning something new. The process describes the way we learn different skills and the way our emotions can determine the way we learn. This process has helped me and other humans to understand the way the human brain works along with the way we learn.
Throughout the movie, Michael showed that he had a vision of beating the Monstars, and he was entrusted by the Looney Tune characters to lead them to victory; he was always upbeat and encouraged his team to believe they would win. Using the interactional approach it is apparent that Michael is a leader in numerous aspects throughout this movie. He was a leader to the Looney Toon characters, players on his basketball and baseball team, and as a father at home. He has a relationship-oriented temperament where even players of the opposing baseball team were willing to aid him while he was at bat during a game. When practicing for the basketball competition, it was evident nearly all of the Looney Tunes had no background for playing basketball. Michael used this as an opportunity to enforce a democratic coaching approach for his team. Since he was playing alongside his team, he had a direct influence on the outcome of the game. Due to being highly competent at basketball, he was able to provide positive feedback for his team when they performed well, and encouraged them to have fun while playing, instead of focusing on winning the game. His teammates were cartoons, but they resembled young athletes, which makes sense as democratic coaches are favored when working with younger individuals
As one ponders on how to live a good life, many ideas come to mind. Whether this may be wealth, family, or beauty, the early philosopher’s theories need to be taken into consideration. Those early philosophers include Plato, Aristotle, the Stoics, and The Epicureans. These four committed their lives towards bettering life, and are the basis of most philosophical theories. It is evident that these four need to be read, understood, and discussed to better understand one’s life. They always pondered on the thought of how to have a perfect life and society. When one makes their own theory, based upon these early philosophers, not only do they need to establish a strong belief system, it is required to practice this too. Plato had the most basic of theories, being that only virtue was needed in life to be happy and nothing else. For Aristotle, he used Plato’s foundation and added that external goods, such as wealth, respect, friends, and beauty were all necessary. Without one of these, Aristotle believes that one cannot live a happy life. For the Stoics, they settled on a balanced approached between virtue and external goods, saying that virtue is necessary, yet external goods are preferred too. The Epicureans largely argue the Stoics view, and present that pleasure (tranquility) is the goal of every life, but virtues and friends are required for this. Each theory has many critics, even with Aristotle being a critic of his own theory. None seems perfect, yet all fit today’s modern society. I found that I agree with the Stoics theory the most, and find that any external good is fine as long as virtue is the basis of that person’s life.
Achieving long-term personal happiness is possible with hard work and perseverance by using several methods. Understanding and following various steps to have fulfillment can change your life. By consistently following an assortment of important steps, you will develop a life pattern that is generally happy. Many people throughout history have attempted to find ways to become happier, and share the information with others. While there are occasionally things that should make a person unhappy, it is important to not allow unhappiness to become a lifelong pattern that destroys you mentally and physically. In addition, happy people tend to have more friends and success because they are fun to associate with.
What does it mean to be happy? Happiness is a sensation that people want to have, and a lot of it. Above all else in the world, it’s what we seek and long for. Though this feeling can be found in many different places and at many different times, it isn’t easy to acquire. For some people, happiness might be found in exercise and sustaining good health. On the other hand, others can discover it when they go on vacation and relax. The idea here is that we each have our own things that make us happy.
For our Economics subject, we watched The Pursuit of Happyness, a movie based on Chris Gardner, a salesman who was not making that much money and eventually experiences homelessness with his five-year old son. He faces problems when his wife is unwilling to accept his goal to become a stockbroker and leaves him. However, he perseveres even under all this stress.
