The tone of the narrator towards the beginning of the story is serious, direct and so explanatory it has outstanding imagery.The tone is established by explaining a time when Johan felt terrified.It starts with chapter one so this lets me know that it is not in the form of a diary. It is written in third-person and The author explains the time were an unidentified aircraft overflown the community twice.Through speakers, the community is told to go to the nearest building and stay there.The community does it immediately and without complaint.This lets me know that the community is good at following orders and nothing extraordinary has ever happened in the community because everyone was staring at the jet because they had never seen one …show more content…

The five qualities are intelligence, integrity, courage, wisdom, and "ability to see beyond”. If you don't have intelligence you would not be able to understand what's going on in the visions the giver will give you.You must have the integrity to know what great honor it is to be a receiver.Courage because training includes physical pain.Wisdom to understand the position he is in the visions and also to understand and tell what is going on in the vision. The ability to see beyond is really important because you take what you have learned in your vision and apply it to your everyday world. In the novel, Johan’s mother tells him that “the word "love" is so generalized as to be meaningless, and they suggest questions such as "Do you enjoy me?" or "Do you take pride in my accomplishments?"
