For this assignment, I chose to read the book, The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn. In it, the author explains why she considers life to be a game, and in order to succeed, one must understand a collection of spiritual laws. The insights offered through Shinn’s explanations of these laws, provide valuable information about how you can alter your way of thinking to achieve your goals, and can also relate to certain topics that we have touched upon during our Dance Essentials class. In this book, Shinn discusses how you can change your way of thinking in order to lead a more fulfilled life. When they decided to end the game they all said that they would want to play again. The play observation illustrated Huizinga’s play detentions in terms of free activity, no material interest, own boundaries, and fixed rules. One person suggested to play hide and seek and the rest decided to join knowing that there is no material reward. The A team added their own rules in order to create their own boundaries. In addition, Eberle’s play framework elements of pleasure and strength were displayed by the game because each player demonstrated enjoyment during the game and they enhanced their strength by running quickly. In this paper, I will argue that Objective List Theory is the best theory of well-being because it answers many questions brought up when discussing someone’s life, such as how someone can determine if a person’s life was good or bad overall or what aspect of their life dicates whether that person 's life was good or bad. Objective List Theory is the theory of well - being that states the only ingredients that are intrinsically valuable to one 's well-being are, accomplishment, freedom, and knowledge. Ultimately meaning, that these three characteristics are the only aspects of life that dictate if a person’s life is a good one or a bad one.
Positive Psychology is the strengths and virtues a person or a community poses that lead to its optimal performance and allow it to thrive.This is a beneficial study that has the chance to improve the lives of many as well as preventing some negative situations. The sources I selected look into a broad overview of Positive Psychology, and it looks into deeper more specific aspects of Positive Psychology. Life is said to be divided into two dominant salient phases in many cultures: in the first phase, from childhood to middle adulthood, we are becoming individuals, gaining knowledge about traditions and values of cultures and learning the ways of the world and maintaining ourselves in the demands of family, work, and society. In the second phase, which begins as Jung declared, with the midlife crisis, we begin spinning inward, reconnecting with the center of our being identifying ourselves as unique and approachable personality . In the first phase we build and develop our ego and in the second phase we transcend and surrender it (Metzner, 1998).
Choices face us every day. Some are simple. For example, things we are aware of consciously. However, there are some choices we make that are significantly more important, but we do not realize what they are. One of these choices is the attitude we will have. What some people do not know is this simple choice of attitude affects how we view the world, and how the world views us. The attitude we have can determine whether we fail or have success. When we fail, most times it is because we did not have a positive attitude. Studies have shown that when we have a more positive attitude, it can “broaden our sense of possibility, which then allows us to build new skills and resources that can provide value” (Clear). With this mindset, we can experience more happiness, which can lead to conquering things that are put before us.

People don't truly accept life for what it is until they've actually tasted adversity and went through those misfortunes and suffering. We are put through many hardships in life, and we learn to understand and deal with those issues along the way. We find that life isn't just about finding one's self, but about creating and learning from our experiences and background. Adversity shapes what we are and who we become as individuals. Yann Martel's Life of Pi shows us that adverse situations help shape a person's identity and play a significant role in one's lief by determining one's capabilities and potential, shaping one's beliefs and values, and defining the importance and meaning of one's self.
One simple consideration that can change the course of how people think about their approach to life is, the examination of the influences that they have on other people’s lives. An individual could also look outwards and analyze the impact that other people have on that individual’s life. One should also self-reflect and search for how their thoughts and actions craft a pathway towards their own destiny. The statement by Socrates, “the unexamined life is not worth living,” is an interesting statement that requires a considerable amount of analysis.
