In this report of Australia, I will include the Five Themes of Geography and what some Australians like to eat and drink. Australia is the sixth largest country by territory, it is also known as “island continent “because it does not border any other country or continent that located in Oceania. Australia is an island, a country, and a continent. It is surrounded by the Indian Ocean, Timor Sea, Arafura Sea, Gulf of Carpentasia, the Coral Sea, the Tasman Sea and the Great Australian Bight. The name ‘Australia’ is translated from the Latin word “australis”, which means southern. This is a coincidence due to the fact that it is located on the southern part of the Eastern Hemisphere. Australia does not border any countries, the closest neighbor to the north is Papua New Guinea, New Zealand to the southeast. Six states, two major mainland territories, and a few minor territories are included in Australia. Australia is a nice place to visit and has good climates, a good amount of people, and multiple religions. Australia’s climate can be different in winter, spring and summer. Due to Australia having large lands, it has several different climates. The northern part of Australia has more of a tropical climate, hot and windy in the summer, and a fairly warm and dry weather in the winter, while the southern section is cooler with peaceful summers and cool, and every so often rainy winters. Australia’s capital city is Canberra, and is located on the northern end of Australia’s Capital Territory. Australia’s major population contains of 24.52 million people.
