Story and Character: The Film “Intolerable Cruelty”
The film “Intolerable Cruelty” is a blackly humorous and macabre story that provides satirical insights in the plot of the film. These insights interlink the absurdity and working relationships of social convention, which are less cutting than the expectations of the audience. The imagery employed in this film is less bizarre while the tone is more sophisticated and subtle than in the films “Fargo” and “Barton Fink.” The storyline shows some aspects of “refusal” which are confined by willingness to experiment, once again, and past successes. The film starts with an animated opening credit, which is a delightful and wonderful little piece in Hollywood films. This scene creates an off-kilter humor, while at the same time reassuring the audience through ironic and rueful commentaries on the ancient imagery of romance. Evidently, the film has incorporated imagery, a well-elaborated storyline, and an amazing opening that suits Hollywood films.
Plot of the film
This film is a romantic comedy that encompasses screen chemistry as a stunning gold-digger and divorce lawyer demonstrates romantic feelings in a court as well as in courtship. Miles Massey, a top divorce attorney is Los Angeles is the king of the prenuptial contract, The Massey Pre-Nup, which had never succeeded in law courts. Oozing with success and charm, Miles longs for a new trial in his life and meets gorgeous Marylin Rexroth. With his experience, Miles defeats Marylin in a divorce case from her wealthy and train-fetishist husband, Rex Rexroth. Miles is openly infatuated by the glamour of Marylin, who is planning to revenge against Miles although she is also attracted to him. Unfortunately, she marr...

...ch communicates to the audience the message that wealthy people have authority over the poor people. For instance, Rexroth, a wealthy man, is able to hire the best attorney. Additionally, Marylin pretends to be in love with Howard to have a share of his wealthy. These scenes emphasize that wealth stands for power and dominance, a typical feature of modern films.
From the discussion above, it can be established there is a correlation between traditional and current films. For instance, the roles of the main characters in the film are developed throughout the film, just as in the films today. Additionally, the use of animation complements the humorous part of a film. From the love story of Miles and Marylin, it can be deduced that true love overcomes love-for-money. Finally, the protagonist achieves a happy ending whilst the antagonist suffers for his inhumane actions.
Mr. Leo wrote this piece not only for informative purposes, but also to convince a particular audience that, whether intentional or not, characters have taken on harmful images some may find offensive. He is not speaking only to his fairly educated, loyal readers, but also to those who may have taken part in producing the movie. Mr. Leo makes visible to his readers what he believes to be stereotypes in the film. People may not have noticed these before, so he makes clear definitions and comparisons. To the rest of the audience, those who had a hand in making the movie, he makes a plea not to redevelop these characters in future films.
The way our friends treat us in the face of adversity and in social situations is more revealing of a person’s character than the way they treats us when alone. In Khaled Hosseini’s novel The Kite Runner, ethnic tensions, nationality, and betrayal become the catalyst that drives and fuels Amir, Assef, and other characters to embark on their particular acts of cruelty. Serving as a way to illustrate the loss of rectitude and humanity, cruelty reveals how easily people can lose their morals in critical circumstances. Through Amir, Assef, and the Taliban’s actions, cruelty displays the truth of a person’s character, uncovering the origin of their cruelty. Amir’s cruelty spurs from his external environment and need for love from his father, choosing
The documentary, The Interrupters, is a film that tells the ongoing journey of three ‘violence interrupters’ who’s goals are to stop and prevent violence from their South Side Chicago, Illinois neighborhoods, which they once took part of. An interesting aspect of this film is that Ameena Matthews, Cobe Williams and Eddie Bocanegra, the three ‘violence interrupters’, reflect on their experiences with violence in the streets of Chicago in order to better help these young men and women avoid the community violence. These three ‘violence interrupters’ work intensely with a number of people (mostly young adults) who are prone to acting out and violent behavior.
The stunning premise is simply a young girl’s battle for survival against a brutal, retchless killer. Who, not for one second will let you take your eyes away from the screen. He stalks us, makes us feel the pain and not knowingly, he makes us scream for our life. It’s definitely not a setback, relax and enjoy kind of film but rather the opposite, in a good way. A bravura opening five minutes winds the tension up brillian...
There are certain groups of people that cause these events to happen. Because of them, there are people living in denial and people that are being ostracized every day. They do this because they are afraid that if they do not go along with what the majority does, their will be reprisal. Everyone wants to believe that people are basically good at nature. But with the events that occurred in the film, it is easy to see that people are easily influenced and would rather go along with the group than stand out and make a difference.
Interpersonal conflict in films comes across the same in everyday life. There are times when things are said that are taken out of context and you wish they could be retracted for example when we become upset with a situation or comment that was said. I found there to be a lot of different instances of conflict in this film I chose. After watching this film, I learned to be careful of what I might say and how it is said to avoid escalating any incident you may have in an active relationship.
The movie is mainly about a man and a woman who had 3 children. They were somehow different from one another. One day the father decided to throw his daughter a birthday party despite her bad report card grades. The mother wasn’t able to handle such a chaotic life and asked for divorce where the judge accepted her reasons and granted her custody of the children. The father wanted to spend as much time as possible with his kids and was ready to do whatever it takes. Therefore he decided to be the nanny named Mrs. Doubtfire the mother was searching for. He dressed up and wore the right make up to match the nanny’s features. When he got hired he was happy to spend time next to his family although no one recognized him. He started to save the money he earned to buy a home and have some fixed assets that would help him in gaining back the kids next time in court. With time, he realized that the mother was seeing someone else and he started to get jealous. One day the kids caught the nanny and were able to discover that he is their father so he was obliged to explain everything to them. However when the mother knew the truth she was very mad at her ex-husband because he lied all that time. During the next session in court the judge was mad at the father’s actions considering them unorthodox behavior granting the mother full custody of...
People can feel better about themselves after watching these types of movies. Using these elements together, it makes the movie better, but not only that, but each element helps each other out in the scene to make it a very good movie
A classic movie, of course, has a variety of excellent factors. But it really makes it a reason for people to love it, or is the desire for perfect life, the desire for good human
When you think about movies think about how long they have been around and how they changed over the years. Movies have changed over the years in many ways for Example, in the passage called How Have Movies Changed Over the Years the author Tanya Jenkins “ the most obvious difference in the movies of today versus the movies from 100 years ago is the addition of of color and sound”. My opinion is that Tanya is trying to inform us that movies we’re better back in the day when it didn’t have any color. I also feel like she is trying to persuade us to watch movies from 100 years ago but i also feel like in the other passage called Making Money in Movies Chris Thompson also known as the writer is telling us about how money use to cost thousands
I wanted to film Schindler’s List for the reason that the Holocaust was a ghastly occasion in history and should not be over and done. The Jews suffered to the highest degree, they were exposed of their soul rights, treated be fond of animals, slaughtered in the vein of animals. I Intend to remind people of what the Jews had to go all the way through , how Hitler shed them out from the social order. What happened to the Jews should never happen for a second time to anyone. I chose to spotlight Oscar Schindler, because this chap did an extraordinary thing. He saved countless Jews from foreseeable imprisonment and execution. He is evidence that one being can make a difference.
Classic narrative cinema is what Bordwell, Staiger and Thompson (The classic Hollywood Cinema, Columbia University press 1985) 1, calls “an excessively obvious cinema”1 in which cinematic style serves to explain and not to obscure the narrative. In this way it is made up of motivated events that lead the spectator to its inevitable conclusion. It causes the spectator to have an emotional investment in this conclusion coming to pass which in turn makes the predictable the most desirable outcome. The films are structured to create an atmosphere of verisimilitude, which is to give a perception of reality. On closer inspection it they are often far from realistic in a social sense but possibly portray a realism desired by the patriarchal and family value orientated society of the time. I feel that it is often the black and white representation of good and evil that creates such an atmosphere of predic...
Generally speaking, romance is something most people consider as crucial element in a relationship. It’s the feeling that comes upon two individuals that can grow into an everlasting relationship. People have dreamed of having an everlasting passionate love at least once in their lifetime. However, if they expect to have it for a long period of time, they are in trouble because such things do not exist as they do in movies. People have dreams of this false perception of love all the time due to Hollywood movies about love, romantic poems, and television shows. This is what people have been lead to believe because directors and produces knows it’s what they want. The movies themselves always show the couple on their good days. The falling in love part. They show the laughs, the sentimental speeches, and the intimate love scenes. Any negativity is just a precursor to the final moment they reunite. The Hollywood movie studios sells us an enhanced and cleaned up version of romance of what true love and romance should be. However, as many people know from their own relationships they are leaving out the day to day realities of a relationship where people lose their temper or get annoyed. These are the parts that really test the relationship. They don’t show the challenges of being in long term relationships. It makes sense seeing how the movies only have a few hours to get the characters stories across. There are not many great movies that show relationship struggles. The audience does not want to see this side of the love story. People watch movies where the characters are perfect and they have perfect hair, a perfect smile, and perfect relationships. Then they grow up and are exposed to all the imperfections of life, yet they still ...
Since the Classical Hollywood films center around psychological causes in the narrative events, the film narratives are linked by a cause-effect relationship (Bordwell, Thompson, 79). An event will eventually lead to the next event, and so on.
We talked about in class once about the education in the US compared to other countries actually made me wonder how well we were educated. It was shocking to me that these other places were learning things that here we don’t even learn and that they were forced or required. When I read the “America Skips School” article at first I was really confused. When we started talking about it in class it became clearer to me.
