Technology and mass media have been evolving rapidly over the last century. We find proof of this within the development of the internet. Society moved from an era of traditional media to an era we are now in, known as New Media. Dr. Jack Lule, a professor of journalism at Leigh University, defines New Media as media that encompasses all the forms of communication in the digital world, including electronic video games and the Internet. In Dr. Lule’s book Mass Communication, Media, and Culture, he mentions how even this type of New Media is now the most common one we see, traditional media is still loosely in use.
To understand the evolution of media we must go back and understand the difference of communication and mass communication. First

These tools, or medium, have evolved over time. The first tool that accomplished this job was known as the Gutenberg Printing Press created around 1450 by Johann Gutenberg. The creation of the first movable printing press allowed books to be created and duplicated quickly. Historyguide.org dives in further, “It made information available to a much larger segment of the population who were, of course, eager for information of any variety.” Information was spreading quickly and as the act of reading started to develop into a necessity instead of a luxury, allowing another medium for mass communication to emerge.
Understanding Mass Communication identifies the next channel in the development of mass communication, the telegraphy in 1840: With the introduction of electronic communication technology, messages could not only be sent to numerous people, the message could be sent and received almost instantaneously through a system of wires.
After the telegraphy came the telephone, and the radio, and then the television: where messages had motion pictures attached to it. The developments of these five important tools of communication played a role in evolving technology to where we are

Are technology and the media shedding the very fabric of the existence we have known? As technology and the media spread their influence, the debate over the inherent advantages and disadvantages intensifies. Although opinions vary widely on the subject, two writers offer similar views: Professor Sherry Turkle, director of the MIT Initiative on Technology and Self, in her article “Can You Hear Me Now” and Naomi Rockler-Gladen, who formerly taught media studies at Colorado State University, with her article “Me Against the Media: From the Trenches of a Media Lit Class.” Turkle asserts that technology has changed how people develop and view themselves, while at the same time affecting their concepts of time management and focus (270). Similarly, Rockler-Gladen believes media and its inherent advertising have had a profound effect on the values and thinking of the public (284). I could not agree more with Professor Turkle and Ms. Rockler-Gladen; the effects technology and media have worried and annoyed me for quite so time. The benefits of technology and media are undeniable, but so then are the flaws. People are beginning to shift their focus away from the physical world to the virtual world as they find it easier and more comfortable. The intended purpose of technology and media was to be a tool to improve the quality of life, not shackles to tie people to their devices. I no longer recognize this changed world and long for the simple world of my youth.

Mass media has gone through quite a transformation over the past decade where there were only a couple forms of media. Today mass media has many different forms, from the TV, to the internet, to radio, to social media sites; the list goes on and on. In this paper I will discuss the evolution of mass media during the last century, as well how these developments influence American culture. Furthermore, I will discuss the term media convergence and how it affects our everyday life in ways we never even gave a second thought to. Lastly, I will discuss the absolute importance of media literacy for responsible media consumption

In today's world people cannot live without Mass Media and with the help of technological improvements to send messages to the masses is becoming easier and easier. As we are been shower with tons of advertising, information and other sort of materials by the different types of Mass Media has influence in our everyday life styles.
The evolution of mass communications has gone through major developments; from etching the beginnings of an alphabet into a rock the size of a standard dinner table to letting a computer recognize words spoken into a speaker as it types away what it hears. Dating back to around 1700 B.C. when the first alphabet was said to come into existence, society has come far in different fields of communications. Nothing made as large of an impact in the world of communications as the revolution of the Internet. Although the impact has been large, the Internet was certainly not the first to revolutionize communications. When many cities started to arise and become industrial-based, there became a need for more technological advancements. When there was one change in the way of living, a domino effect occurred and many more advancements and developments took place. The mass communications of writing, printing, mass media and entertainment have all influenced how we use the Internet and new technology developments today.
The Mass Media has had a greater in influence on modern culture than either education or history.
What I would like to discuss now is the actual process of mass communication and
