Mr. Lopez has been a valued employee of ExtremeNet for quite some time. He has worked his way up to middle management and shows the insight to make it further in this company. Although, by putting up his website regarding a fictional company which resembles ExtremeNet, he may have put his job in jeopardy. Whether to terminate his job or not, is a difficult decision to make. Mr. Lopez made attempts prior to creating his web page to discuss the discrimination with his superiors, however, these attempts were not successful. We may have come upon hard times, but this does not make any discrimination acceptable. Nor does it make it ethical to treat lower level employees poorly. Firstly, I would have to agree with Mr. Lopez that this treatment must be stopped immediately. Under an ethical egoist view, this would be an acceptable manner to run a business because it benefits the company, first and foremost. However, under utilitarianism, this is unethical because it does not benefit the greater good. Additionally, Kant’s Duty ethics and Ross’s Prima Facie duties these acts would be unethical. …show more content…

Lopez, upset by these unethical behaviors, then used his first amendment right of freedom of speech to voice his opinions of the wrong doings. Although some may associate this false company with ExtremeNet, there are also several other companies in the industry which the description could fit. Therefore, Allen Lopez’s website does not directly impair our company. Therefore, I believe that Mr. Lopez is not breaking any of the company’s rights because he is not using slander or lying.
