What would happen if all high school students had low self-esteem? Do they end up not having a high school diploma from their school? Do they end up not having unconditional relationships to others? Do they end up committing suicide? These are the questions that come to mind whenever one imagines that all high school students have low self-esteem. Many students in the United States have low self-esteem. Some students want to improve their low self-esteem, while most students cannot. Low self-esteem affects high school students extremely, especially during school hours. They affect everything and everyone around them. The possible effects of low self-esteem for high school students are poor academic performance, shallow relationships to other people, and mental health problems.
The first possible effect of low self-esteem for high school students is poor academic performance. Students with low self-esteem are prone to earn bad grades in their classes because they do not believe in themselves. They usually have negative thoughts running through their minds; causing them to think that they will fail the tests and quizzes that their teachers will give them. Students are also prone not to participate in their classes because they feel very uncomfortable sitting and talking in front of everyone. For instance, Sarah who has low self-esteem was asked about plants in front of everyone. Sarah was startled because she never thought her teacher would ask her such a question. She chose not to answer the question because she was not confident enough to voice her opinion in class. Sarah chose to remain quiet rather than answer the question. Having low self-esteem affects students in all aspects of life. They are affected emotionally and mentally. Students with low self-esteem can experience extreme failure at their school because they are more likely to earn failing grades, and not participate in class. They can also have weak relationships with other people, such as their teachers and parents. Students are also affected by their depression and anxiety because it may lead them to the more serious act of committing suicide. Such effects of low self-esteem for high school students are hard to deal with, but they can overcome their low self-esteem by believing in themselves.
