Prejudice and discrimination have both prevailed in human society since the beginning of civilization.Prejudice is the negative thought and discrimination is the further developed version of prejudice where one 's thoughts are put into action. Discrimination has always divided society as it makes one group seem they are better than another group. Prejudice and discrimination cause isolation, they lead to lack of diversity, and they result in loss of self esteem.
To begin with, isolation is one of the main problems produced through prejudice and discrimination. Prejudice or discrimination never has and will never lead to anything positive. Certain groups discriminate and isolate others as they think that they are superior to other person or group. For example, in the book "The Lottery" Mrs.Tess Hutchinson is isolated by the society after she wins the lottery as everyone feels like she is not one of them anymore. Similarly, the large scale effect of discrimination could be seen in World War II. The Nazis ostracized the Jews making everyone in Germany think that they were inferior to the Aryan people. A human being always has a set of goals to reach and in reaching the goal a person proves to everyone what he or she is capable of but discrimination might undermine that achievement. Negative stereotyping is one of the most demoralizing factor for a person. For example, there is a negative stereotype saying all blonde women are dumb. This might make everyone categorize blonde women into one category making the blonde women to just give up as everyone already classifies them as dumb. It also limits opportunities for a person as there is a stereotype saying women can only be nurses and not doctors. If the same thought prevails in the parents ' mind then they won’t let their daughter pursue her career as a doctor as they think its
