The rise in fast food restaurant chains can endanger the health and financial situation of the lives of the world’s citizens. The uncleanliness and all the unhealthy factors result in hazardous conditions for customers. Innocent children can catch an illness due to insanitation when careless employees neglect crucial responsibilities. Obesity and diabetes are primary risk factors one encounters as a result of junk food. Financial issues correspond with frequent purchases at restaurants. Fast food restaurants pose a dangerous threat against humanity.
The increase in consumption of fast food is directly proportional to the risk of diabetes. Frequent trips to restaurants can result in the inability of a customer to digest extremely high amounts

Blocked arteries is a common symptom of high blood pressure that decreases the amount of blood that reaches the heart, resulting in a heart attack. According to a University of Minnesota School of Public Health report, scientists have observed a Chinese population that have swapped out their healthy fruits and vegetables for fast food. The results were astonishing: of the fifty-two thousand candidates, approximately one thousand four hundred die from cardiac arrest (Reporter). Fast food can create an affliction that occurs in one’s primary life support, the heart.
Obesity can be contributed with the rising number of unhealthy fast food chains. These restaurants serve immense proportions full of processed food that is full of calories. A meal, consisting of a hamburger, french fries, and a small drink, contains over one thousand calories. A test was run to exhibit these harmful effects. “According to a 15-year study of 3,000 adults, people who visited fast food restaurants more than twice per week gained roughly 9 to 11 pounds more than people who visited them less than once per week” (“Does). The low quality of food matches the cleanliness of the restaurant

Fast food workers do not think about how their neglect of a certain task will negatively affect one’s life. A study by microbiologists at Hollins University found that forty-eight percent of soda fountains at fast food restaurants contain coliform bacteria, a bacteria found in feces, and eleven percent contains E Coli as a result of employees neglecting their role to properly clean infected areas. Many other active organisms were discovered that are resistant to two of the eleven antibiotics tested. Although the microorganisms do not cause significant harm, they do promote an uncomfortable condition known as gastritis, inflammation of the stomach. However, if one has a weak immune system, the bacteria can pose a more notable threat.
If one does not prepare meals the correct way, customers can fall victim to food poisoning. A study was done in March 2011 on the lack of hygiene and sanitation in fast food restaurants. More than fifty percent of the workers prepare meals ahead of time and fifty percent of the leftovers were poorly supervised (Kibret). Employees are not the only cause for contamination in the working area of fast food. Rodents can inhabit cooking surfaces and leave behind harmful diseases that could easily be ignored by employees when
E. Coli and other foodborne illnesses are something that should be of major concern to everybody, becasue nobody is safe from it. It is not something that can be prevented or
However, when creating fast food restaurants, the industries were not thinking about the negative effects such as obesity. Other than obesity, other harmful effects exist as well. Fast food restaurants serve unhealthy products such as greasy foods and artificial meat that lead to dietary health issues in many adults and children. A recent study showed that “Young children who are fed processed, nutrient-poor foods are likely to become unhealthy teenagers, and eventually unhealthy adults. Now twenty-three percent of teens in the U.S. are pre-diabetic or diabetic, 22% have high or borderline high LDL cholesterol levels, and 14% have hypertension or prehypertension”
Obesity among Americans has been a growing issue in the United States predominantly over the past decade. Many may argue American’s are obese because of poor food choices, over-eating, genetic disposition, lack of exercise, or the environment which one lives, while others blame it all on fast-food chains and restaurants. Throughout my research I have come to find a lot of facts and statistics about fast food consumption causing obesity. Statistics show that without a doubt the United States is the most obese country in the world.
44 percent of Americans eat fast food at least once per week (“Fast food statistics”, 2014) and kids between the ages of 6 and 14 eat fast food 157 million times every month (Ransohoff Julia, 2013). Just in the past 3 decades the obesity rates in children have more than tripled (Kalaidis Jen, 2013). Needless to say, whether once a year or 3 times a week, fast food is a definitely part of most Americans nutrition. Acco...
Fast food restaurant chains are a popular and convenient choice for eating on the go in our modern society. There are certainly several positive aspects to fast food establishments, but are the potential health detriments and collective negative effects on society worth it? Or would it be better to support locally owned and operated restaurants? Here I will examine several facts pertaining to these restaurants, as well as explain why I personally believe we should not frequent these establishments, but rather support local restaurants.
Investigating the Causes of Food Poisoning INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this essay is to investigate and find out what causes food poisoning, the bacteria’s that causes, the symptoms, the infections and its prevention’s. Food poisoning is commonly found in UK. Generally food poisoning result from contamination of food and the subsequent growth of food poisoning micro-organise. Food poisoning outbreaks ore often recognised by the sudden onset of illness within a short period of time among many individuals who have eaten or drunk one or more foods in common The most serious types of food poisoning are due to bacteria. Bacteria are microscopic organisms that are found everywhere, which is in the air, soil, water, plant, animals and human body.
In American society’s everyday busy life, fast food is a commonly consumed meal . You can drive down a single road and often find more than five fast food chains’ restaurants. In a society where people are always “on the go,” a cheeseburger meal with a large soda is very easy to grab, and inexpensive. Although people might think it’s just a hamburger and fries, do they really know what is in the food, and how it is going to affect their bodies. Fast food has become a dangerous billion dollar industry, and it is harmful for the consumers. Those who know the dangers need to inform the others that they are taking a risk by pulling into that drive through, and putting their health on the line. Fast food is harmful for an individual’s health
Managers admitted that fifty four percent pooled raw shell eggs that were not used immediately, they were held for six hours instead of four. Also, twenty six percent of eggs were stored at room temperature which was not recommended by the FDA. Also, the mangers were not handling raw chicken carefully. Forty percent of them said that they did not always assign certain cutting boards for raw meat. Twenty nine percent said they did not wash and rinse the surfaces before sanitizing. Another example is cooling food incorrectly, out of four hundred and twenty restaurants, thirty nine percent were not cooled in shallow pans. In food workers’ food preparation, four hundred and eighty six food workers were interviewed. Thirty three percent admitted that they were not changing gloves or washing their hands frequently after working with raw meat. Some came to work while they were throwing up or experiencing diaherra. Lastly, four hundred and forty nine restaurants workers were interviewed about tomatoes. Forty nine percent said that certain cutting
Restaurants could never run with just one person, it is always a group effort. Wait staff, cooks, managers, and many other people all contribute to different aspects of the business. Some studies indicate that whilst some aspects of behavior related to the individual, over 40 percent may be related to groups of people within a business, how they interact, what an organization is about and how they behave (Griffith 440). Food handlers acting in a multiuser environment may not see themselves as part of a team. Many of the recorded indirect cross-contamination events occurred when multiple food handlers used common food contact surfaces, utensils, or equipment. The team like nature of a food service system should be highlighted, and built upon but it is currently missing from national food safety training programs such as ServSafe. XXXXXXAnother thing managers don’t stress enough to food handlers is when they need to report being sick. According to the survey by Manes et al., 32 percent of participants stated that they would come to work with a sore throat and cough, 24 percent would come to work with an infected wound, and 17 percent would come to work with diarrhea (21). Illness pared with poor hygiene in operations can be very harmful, especially if the employee is a food
Obesity is a big social issue in America. Due to the popularity of fast food and other unhealthy foods, more and more Americans are developing health diseases and disorders. We should be getting the correct daily nutrition amount, but because of our fast paced lifestyles we sometimes do not have enough time. Fast food restaurants make it possible to grab a meal and go. We often do not pay attention to the nutrition amount, but are simply looking for a quick bite to eat that will fulfill our hunger. Fast food is assisting in the increase of obesity in America (“Phrase” par.2).
This applies to both commercial and residential kitchens. If an employee uses the restroom and doesn't wash their hands after, it is possible that the small traces of fecal matter that they came into contact with can contaminate the food they produce. If a meal that contains raw meat or poultry is prepared, it is key that one properly sanitizes the work space. Any cutting boards, knives/ utensils, countertops etc. must be sterilized with hot soapy water or food safe cleaning solution (“Prevention”). When eating in a restaurant, one should not be afraid to send back food they suspect to be undercooked, especially if it is meat or poultry as well as anything that contains eggs.
Food borne illnesses are caused by consuming contaminated foods or beverages. There are many different disease-causing microbes, or pathogens. In addition, poisonous chemicals, or other harmful substances can cause food borne illnesses if they are present in food. More than two hundred and fifty different food borne illnesses have been described; almost all of these illnesses are infections. They are caused by a variety of bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can be food borne. (Center 1)
Introduction Today consumers have easy access to unhealthy foods especially with many fast food places. Citizens of America are unaware of the health risks when the consume the unhealthy. One of the health risks is bacteria found in the processed meat that people have died from. The reason for the for the health risks is due to companies taking shortcuts in their raising of livestock and production lines. Companies have made millions from the sales with their products on shelves of many grocery stores.
The restaurant employees are not following the cleaning and sanitation standards set by the restaurant’s managers and officials. The restaurant employees do not practice hygiene before coming into and at while they are at work. Sadly, it seems that the standards of sanitation most employees hold are declining. Employees are not bathing before work; they are wearing the same uniform they have been all week so that they do not have to spend the time and money it takes wash it, coming in hung-over or on some sort of drug(s), after throwing up, having diarrhea and being contagiously sick. The reason for this is that most employees do not care and just want a paycheck. Granted that the sanitation standards are changing with the years but even the smallest thing can still cause some kind of sanitation violation. Take for instance the employee usage of gloves: “When new and in good condition gloves are a help but, all too frequently, they are worn until the glove surfaces become roughened, porous and even split; in this state they are more a hazard than a help since they may harbour large numbers of bacteria on their damaged surfaces” (Forsyth and Hayes 374). However, even if the gloves do not split or break an employee can still be the cause of problems such as cross contamination by not changing out the gloves when fin-ished with the task just performed, or keeping them on throughout the duration of the shift. According to the recent studies around 76 million illness i.e. 325,000 hospitalization in the United States are caused because of food poisoning.
