Internet (n.d.) explains that the internet is “a vast computer network linking smaller computer networks worldwide. The internet includes commercial, educational, governmental and other networks, all of which use the same set of communication protocols” (para. 1). One of the main concerns with internet use is the effects of cyber bullying and the nature in which it is increasing. Something as simple as negative emails directed at another person or as big as a revealing photo of an individual posted without permission can be considered cyber bullying. There is no limit to the ways of bullying and it does not require strength or face to face communication, cyber bullying can mostly be done by digital technology and is particularly a growing epidemic in today’s society surrounding children, teenagers and adults. Cyber bulling can be done from teasing, taunting, spread rumours and verbally hurting someone through videos on the internet. Cyber bullying can also take place in the work place and can cause serious harm to someone’s career. Once cyber bullying starts there are more approaches to ensure that it carries on and the person cannot get away from being bullied, this has a lasting effect on the victim. An illustration of this can be seen when a unpleasant picture is posted of the victim and is then distributed all over the internet and although the main source could have deleted it, someone else could have taken a screen shot of it and it could come back later on to torment the victim. This can cause serious effects to the victims such as feeling sad, angry, worthless, humiliated, depressed, alone and unwanted. Which can lead to isolation, drug and substance abuse and in some instances it can lead to suicide. For example, a young 12 year old girl, Kyana Vergara, took her life on January the 11th as a result of a troubling post on social media (Morton, 2016). Despite the effect cyber bullying has on the individual victim it also can cause negative effects for the surrounding family and community. The impact it has on today’s society is one of the greatest consequences to date. As a result, many people become victims of these devastating attacks these can leave deep mental scars. Cyber bullying is commonly found everywhere in today’s society, compared to 20 years ago when it was less popular, it is on the raise and it does not seem to be slowing down. More people are using the internet and cyber bullying is becoming something of a daily occurrence (Morton, 2016). If more people would use the available resources to find help then it will result in less people falling victims to cyber
