The study is to find, ‘The Differences in Attitudes of parents towards Attributes required for Marriage’.
In the recent years, as we all can see, there are a lot of divorce issues, separation of the couples etc. The researcher’s interest on this study is mainly to concentrate to know the various attributes that will require for marriage and henceforth to lead a happy married life, thus to reduce the divorce rates. The researcher here is concentrating mainly on Indian arranged marriage system where parents will be playing a major role in choosing the attributes for their children who have reached the marriageable age. By conducting this study, the researcher will get to know the most important attributes that would play an important role to make the marriage life much happier.

Attitudes
Attitudes are learned tendencies in which people would evaluate everything that comes across in a certain way. Sometimes these evaluations are positive or negative which includes people evaluating events, objects, issues etc. Example: People will have different attitudes towards owning a residential individual house than that of an individual flat.
Attitudes form due to experiences. They may form due to personal experiences or by observation. Social roles and social norms can also influence attitudes. Social roles relate to people’s behavior in a situation. Social norms involve society's rules for what behaviors are considered appropriate.
Finally, people also learn attitudes by observing people around them. When someone you admire greatly espouses a particular attitude, you are more likely to develop the same beliefs. ...ur society, the parents have become very keen in getting their children married according to them by putting down various attributes that suit their children and their family for better and long-lasting living hood.
The trend of arranged marriages in India is a long process. They first go in search of a bride or a groom and then the other aspects come into place; aspects like financial status, caste, education, standard of living, food habits, family background, religion etc. parents consider most of all the mentioned attributes before they accept to give their son or daughter for marriage.
The objective of this study is mainly to focus the major attributes that parents are looking for marriage, considering both i.e. in search of bride and grooms.
The following chapter helps in understanding the review of literature available in the context of the current study.
