Whenever one thinks of Christianity and the Christian church, one cannot avoid Jesus Christ. This is understandable because, for without Jesus, Christianity would not exist; Christianity is based on Jesus. Jesus has become so well associated with Christianity that it is assumed and widely accepted that Jesus was a Christian. Followers of Christianity often use the reference “being Christ-like” as a model for ideal human behavior (meaning to use the life of Jesus as a blueprint).

(Luke 9:1-2, King James Version) The disciples omitted many accounts about the personal struggles of Jesus because they were focusing on the resurrection and the promise of an immediate return of Jesus. Jesus did not leave behind any personal writings and discouraged his followers from writing about him because he feared that any works he left behind would be turned to idol worship (this is why Paul’s letters were subsequently written before any of Jesus’ disciples). A glaring difference between Christianity and the religion of Jesus is that Jesus had a higher opinion of humanity than Paul did or other theologians of his day. Jesus regarded righteousness and purity as something within the grasp of human ability (Matt. 25:31). Jesus did not feel supernatural power was needed to do that which was right. “You must be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48) Jesus worked tirelessly to teach humanity about the love of God instead of the fear of God that was not compatible with the true nature of God (book of Luke).
