Match fixing is a huge issue recently appearing in football. It happened earlier in history but is, threating too corrupt the game in current times. If match fixing becomes more popular as it is now, it will ruin the integrity of one of the biggest sports in the world. Match Fixing in football threatens to corrupt one of the greatest sport in the world. Match fixing has effected the respect and integrity of the game of football for years. Match fixing has been happening for years, but recently it has become a bigger issue. In older times, this has happened only occasionally. The first known offense of Match fixing was in 1915. Match fixing isn’t getting better, it is only getting worse. Most of the match fixing occurring in the lower leagues of the English league comes from betting companies and gangs in Asia. Recently, officials have been noticing large sums of money being betted on certain lower premiere league games. Jose Mourinho, the Chelsea fc coach, believes that English football must eradicate match fixing if the sport does not want to suffer integrity issues for the decade. In the article “Mourinho: English Football Must ‘Kill’ Match Fixing” the author Ian Hawkey tells us that Mourinho says “When there is smoke there is fire, and people will try to find the fire. And even when you don’t find the fire, you always have some feelings there is a little fire somewhere you cannot find” (1). Mourinho is saying that with fixing in the air, teams can use that people may never believe it was a true win. People get insecure and here about the issue and wonder if it is happening on bigger stages then it really is. When one person cheats and lies, many other people start getting suspicious of others cheating and lying. The fact that fixing is out there makes people think there is more going on then there really is. Fixers are everywhere.
