Passenger can be distracting to a driver because they talk loud, horse play, trying to discipline children, or having a loose pet in the car. When you have children you should tell them that it’s important job for you to focus on the road and give them something to do in the car like a game, book, or a toy. If you need to give attention to your child you need to pull over to a safe place and do so. When you have friends or family in the car that are distracting you then you should explain to them that they are distracting you and tell them to talk or do whatever 's distracting outside of the car. You should never have a pet loose in the car because they could jump on you and hit the steering wheel or jump up blocking the road and make you wreck. You should always put you pet in a carrier while they are in the car. The term “distracted driving” may be hard to define, but, simply, it is the act of driving while being engaged in any activity. Stephanie Hanes describes in her article, how texting is a deadly epidemic. The distractions occurring while we drive on the road endangers the lives of drivers and passengers around us. Andrew Lavallee explains in his article “Companies build Services to End Texting and Driving,” how texting is wildly popular these days. David Andreatta points out some activities which drivers are engaged in while on road, in his article “Texting and Driving Can Spell Disaster.”
The New York Times. Results show that texting behind the wheel causes 330,000 injuries and 2,600 deaths a year. People who talk or text on the phone are just as impaired, or even more impaired, as a drunk driver. A study performed at the University of Utah, shows that the participants crashed when they were texting while driving, but when they were intoxicated, they did not crash. This shows that texting while driving takes your focus off of the road and into the conversation you are having on the phone.
David Hosansky states that the use of cell phones and texting should not be allowed while driving. The increased uses of cell phones and texting while driving has become the center of safety conversations. In fact, there are more than 5,000 deaths related to the use of cell phones and texting while driving over the last decade. Even if laws were put in place it is believed that motorists would still find it hard to put down their phones down. Hosansky also gave an example on the hazards of texting while driving, especially among young drivers. There are very few states that have implemented laws restricting the use of cell phones or texting while driving. David Hosansky is a freelance writer in the Denver area. This article seems to have been written for the general public and thought to be informative. I found this especially helpful and informative in finding this is not just a local problem.
The ability to drive is one of the greatest privileges anyone is allowed to receive, and should not be taken for granted. Many people though do not take this into consideration, and will often fail to realize that their doing something wrong when they are driving. Texting while driving is one of the most common mistakes people do while driving, and is most responsible for many car collisions, and deaths. Over the years many people are now using their phones while driving, and many of those people are teenagers, that are just starting off driving.
Over the years, there has been much controversy as to how the national problem of distracted driving can be resolved. Distracted driving is quickly emerging as a major cause of death. Contrary to belief, by 2030, road traffic injuries are projected to be the fifth leading cause of death worldwide surpassing HIV, aids, cancer, violence, and diabetes (U.S. Department of Transportation, 2014). However, in Canada distracted driving laws are fragmented by provincial and territorial policies and should be implemented into the Criminal Code of Canada, due to the fact that major efforts to enforce and increase penalties have not changed the troubling distracted driving rates.
Texting and driving involves all three types so you can predict the outcome isn’t too much in our favor (Distracted Driving, 2015). According to the National Safety Council (NDC), the big myth today is that people are capable of multitasking, and even worse multitask while driving, but in fact, the human brain cannot do such a thing. People may be walking and chewing gum at the same time, but that is because those actions involve both a thinking task, and a non-thinking task. Driving and talking on the phone at the same time is risky though because it requires both to be used. Instead of attending to both actions simultaneously, the brain quickly shifts between two cognitive activities (The Great Multitasking, 2010). Taken from a new report from the NSC ,drivers that tend to talk on cell phones often enter a state of what is called “inattention blindness” and when this occurs, they may fail to see up to 50 percent of what is ahead of them (NSC Looks Inside, 2010). The United States Department of Transportation says, "text messaging while driving creates a crash risk 23 times higher than driving while not distracted,” (Distracted Driving, 2015). That makes driving
Althought the argument against texting, viewing or any form of distracted driving seems to be very clear a new report submitted by The National Traffic Safety Board imply that driving while texting is in their words “is totally fine” and “not that big a deal” just make sure you look away from your phone every so often.
A driver is constantly fighting distractions while behind the wheel. Manual distraction is the act of physically taking your hands off of the wheel. This can happen while eating or interacting with other passengers. According to a Lytx study in 2014, a driver who is drinking or eating is 3.6 times more likely to be in an automobile crash than attentive drivers who are not eating or drinking while driving (Eating While Driving). You are less likely to react as quickly when you have a burger in your hand than if you are completely focused. What’s more important? The cheeseburger, or your life? There is currently no law against eating while driving, but there sure should be. Eating not only causes manual distraction, but also visual distraction. While looking down at your food visualizing the next bite, your eyes are off the road. This means more traveling without looking at the road. If a child or animal runs in front of the vehicle there is no way of avoiding

Too many have died due to distracted driving accidents. Whether talking, messing with the radio, or texting, distracted driving can cause serious life threatening accidents. Many of the victims are teenagers. I believe one main reason for that is teens do not fully understand the consequences of their dangerous behavior. I believe PSAs can help reduce the number of distracted driving incidents because it shows distracted drivers the consequences of their habit. They also have personal anecdotes from those affected by distracted driving incidents. People may say that distracted drivers know that what they are doing is dangerous. However, PSAs put the distracted driver in the place of people who have been in accidents, as well as their families.

The main form of reckless driving that a large amount of people are aware of is drinking and driving. When an individual is under the influence while driving, it can become detrimental in regards to other lives, not just to the individual behind the wheel because it impairs the driver 's ability to make quick and smart decisions. Within the last year there was a 15 year old boy who had lost his life due to driving under the influence. Somehow the boy had managed to veer off the road and wrap his car around a pole and into a Whataburger, not only taking his own life but also risking the lives of anyone who was inside the restaurant. The fact that he was drinking impaired his ability to drive, thus resulting in not having control of his vehicle. Another major issue of reckless driving is speeding. Many times drivers will reach dangerous speeds on the road as the result of racing. Once reaching the high speeds, the individual is risking the amount of control they have over the car. When lacking control of the vehicle the said person is
According to Caird, Willness, & Steel, authors of the article A meta-analysis of the effects of cell phones on driver performance, looked at this conversational issue and debated them for the obvious reasons. They’ve debated that conversations with other passengers goes on during the driving process as the cell phone conversation would. Now, that we have the ability to speak through speakers, which makes it similar, considering the concept of no hands. This would be the same concept in the argument. A human’s mind will travel into the thinking process. In other words become auditory distracted. With passenger conversations, they turn their head to participate in this action. The distraction is there regardless. It is difficult to make that illegal, considering this is the same type of distraction. It is true that both are distractions, but the solution is to figure out how to justify this regarding cell phones. The concept can be simple because it can be regulated or made illegal. Officers with the aid of cameras to prove the individual who broke the law can be taken to court. Although, the amount of drivers that would have to be stopped on a daily basis, according to passenger conversation is uncontrollable and hard to
