The Secrets Of College Sports
Nowadays the student is being mistreated by the University that he/she plays for.The definition of student athlete is “an individual who engages in, is eligible to engage in, or may be eligible in the future to engage in, any intercollegiate sport”(“Student Athlete Law & Legal Definition”par.1). Research shows that student athletes living expenses are not the best as they sometimes don’t have enough money to pay for rent. Also, school expenses are an issue even for the big name schools such as tuition, room and board. The pressure of college sports can cause a mental struggle for the “student athletes” as if they don’t have enough on their plate already. In the movie “The Price Of College Sports” running back for the Houston Texans he says that a college student-athlete is the same thing as an indentured servant (“The Price Of College Sports”). Author Taylor Branch says that the problem with college sports isn't about money or the education the athletes receives. It is the fundamental right for a citizen to seek compensation for their services (“The Price Of College Sports”). Branch also states that it is unfair for the athletes. For example students who are paid for their “services” to work in the college bookstore or a student who works as a Teacher's Assistant he says that the people would think it was preposterous to say that they are an ameteur and deny them their rights to work and get paid for that. He says it is equally important to deal with a college athlete right (“The Price Of College Sports”). Jay Bilas a former NBA player and former star at Duke University. Said that he had a nephew who was student body president and got paid to be student body president. But that athletes who bring in billions of dollars for the NCAA but they can’t be paid for the work they did (“The Price Of College
