In my opinion, I feel that the internet should not be totally censored. If there were a form of censorship that completely controlled the internet, there would be discrepancies and debate over what should be censored. What one could do would be constrained. Total censorship of the internet could prove to be a bad thing.
If the internet were censored, certain freedoms and liberties would be restricted, like the freedom of speech or freedom of expression; highlighting the 1st amendment. The freedom to post whatever one wants would ultimately be limited, as only certain content could be posted and viewed by individuals across the internet. Though this may be the case, I also feel younger audiences should not be subjected to certain content; like graphic, violent, or mature content. Content like this could have a rather damaging impact on certain audiences.
Today, the internet is in fact censored. For example, this can be seen with social media sites like Instagram and Facebook. Both social media platforms restrict individuals from posting pornography or other graphic content. Notably, depending on where one lives, it determines how much control the government and other bodies have over the internet; in regards to censorship. China and other foreign countries for example restrict many American websites, like Facebook, Google, YouTube, and Twitter. In the United States, the internet allows for more freedom in comparison to other countries. Today the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) controls censorship in the United States and how the internet is regulated.
