Womanism is described as a term of feminism that emphasizes women’s natural contribution to society( Fatema Hayat).Therefore,women are naturally apart of society without a women there will be no population.Furthermore,the main idea of the color purple is male dominance.It protrayed how African American men contain power through abuse,manipulation,and control.However,it also protrayed African American women as weak and blinded of a male’s control ,but soon seek empowerment through similar struggles.In the color purple Alice Walker illustrates the theme of women empowerment however,some may argue that women lack;individual idenity,decisons,and dominance.

In the color purple womanism was illustrated by women empowerment through the series of struggles an African American women faced;these struggles surround the theme of male dominance. Stated in the text was an example Mr___stated “men s’pose to wear the pants”(Walker 278).
