The Cocoon Shelter is a non-profit organization whose mission is to “Provide safety, healing, and justice to battered women and their children” (The Cocoon Shelter). Women and children are the most common victims of domestic violence and the organization’s website, located at www.cocoonshelter.org, aids them in finding help and place to stay. The intended audience for the website is women that are currently in a domestic violence relationship that are interested in gaining refuge and assistance for themselves and their children or families of those victims that are wanting to aid their loved ones. While there are some issues with the website, it is a generally helpful and beneficial resource for domestic violence victims. The Cocoon Shelter’s website is overall visually appealing, organized with it’s information, and informative to the audience. Part of the website’s visual appeal is the color scheme. The background for the website is white making it easier for the audience to focus on the important information such as the contact information and resources, which is accentuated with purple ribbons and text. Through the “Ohio Domestic Violence Network” link, the audience is taken to the Ohio Domestic Violence Network’s website where they can get further help if The Cocoon Shelter was unable to provide what they needed. The same can be said for the “National Domestic Violence Hotline” link as well.
