They are remembered and admired because they have their own unique style and approach that supports innovation and initiative and are known for making the workplace culture stronger, more unified and collaborative (Forbes).
Nevertheless, my personal leadership model did change throughout the course, but it was a good change. The change broadens my horizon and only added a clearer perception of the things that needed to change in order to become successful. My personal leadership model changed by adding a few key components such as: self-awareness, self-talks, self-rewards, and self-punishments. However, there are certain things that make someone a great leader. A smart leader is honest and aware; they inspire others, are confident in what they say and do, and have an infectiously positive attitude. Playing basketball this past year has taught me more about what it means to be leader than any dictionary ever could. I had to support my team in overcoming adversity, encourage them to bounce back from any setbacks, and to never dwell on the past. As a leader, I can promise to always be dependable and
...ach a common goal. The leader should pose the qualities of encouraging the heart, modeling the way and inspiring a shared vision. As a leader, I want to do all three and more to everyone I meet in college and throughout my life. I do not want to be remembered for petty things, like awards and trophies but I want to be remembered as someone who made a difference in someone else’s life. The leader that actually cared about his followers and listened to what they had to say. A good leader is the best follower, I want to be that best follower.
In a firm, management and leadership are important and needed. Leadership and management are similar. Actually, leadership and management are totally different. The leadership would influence the firm. The leader would have difference leadership styles to lead the subordinate.
I have learned valuable leadership lessons that I can use and even tell others about as well. My goals in life are vast because I want to accomplish a lot in my life and I think leading my life the right way, is important. My goal as of now, is to continue education to receive a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology. I’m motivated to push through more education to reach my goals of becoming successful in psychology because that is what I want in life. I want to help others and be successful in something that makes me happy in life, because it is not about the money. I think knowing about different leadership styles and types will help me in the future with jobs and dealing with employers. My objectives for my future are to eventually graduate my Master’s program, get a job, and to just live a good, happy life. I will attain these things with hard work and determination that I already possess inside of me, I’m very hard on myself at times because I want to do the best I can and I think that will continue to make me successful in life. Two things I will do to continue leadership in my future are one, to obtain an internship or field experience while in my program so I can learn how to lead when I become a professional in the psychology field and two, continue to learn about leadership from my job and volunteer position at MADD.
Leaders lead. They lead by example, by demonstrating and living out organizational values, and by being seen. A good leader will never ask a teammate to do something they are not willing to do. Leaders also clearly understand the central purpose of their organization and ensure it is crystal clear to every member of the team...and they are relentless in pursuing it.
Leaders can have a powerful impact on the futures of many, and the way in which one approaches leadership is paramount to the type of impact one will have. Continual growth in the areas of knowledge I have and seek to acquire, as well as recognizing my leadership style and utilizing my personal strengths to the fullest, is vital to the successful implementation of my personal philosophy of leadership.
The learning obtained from the Leadership and Organizational Behavior course has been valuable. When considering the term management, there has always been a common miss conception that this automatically makes an individual a leader. Leadership is only a single element of the management role. Many times managers are more comfortable utilizing a particular leadership style. While this may work well the majority of the time, certain employees or situations may require a different approach. Good leadership requires that the individual recognize the need for change to motivate their employees to accomplish the task at hand or to reach common goals. Understanding the importance of leadership is essential. However, the key element to focus on is what steps can be taken to improve one’s leadership capabilities. For many individuals this may be a difficult question to answer and may only be possible through self-assessment and reflection.
For many years, I have been told by teachers, family, and friends that I am a good leader. Until fairly recently, I had never truly thought about what it means to be a good leader and just took it as a compliment. Leadership is an intangible concept which cannot be properly outlined in a dictionary, but one which must be formed and explained only through one’s own philosophies and experiences.
The leadership development activities helped me to gain more knowledge on managerial skills, increased my confidence and strength on my weaker areas which earlier needed improvement. These activities act as a foundation to apply the skills in my workplace and personal life. It assisted me to develop a better understanding of what it takes to be a leader. I’m now well equipped to be a good leader.
Leadership is defined as a process by which an individual influences others to obtain goals. There are three aspects that should be addressed when explaining leadership. One aspect is that leadership is a social influence process; leadership could not exist without a leader and one or more followers. Another leadership aspect is compliance; all of the leader’s directions must be complied with voluntarily. Compliance is what separates leadership from other influence-based formal authority. Finally, leadership results in the followers’ behavior, that is purposeful and goal-directed which must be in some organized setting (Leadership Theories and Studies, 2009).
Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. Being part of groups in university for class presentations, being the organizing secretary of my campus fellowship, being a youth leader in my church and the church admin, also being part of a family. Leaders are charismatic, inspirational and trust worthy. I have gained some important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Most of the valuable leadership’s characteristics that I obtained and strengthened are: learn to become a better leader every day, how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to be an effective communicator, to have more patience, not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic. You are a leader if someone else choses to follow you.

When I think of someone who is a great leader I automatically think about current and previous managers I have had over the years, and honestly I cannot say that any of them are the definition of a great leader. So after I looked up many different definitions of a leader all of them basically defined a leader in the same way, someone who leads people. So, a leader does not typically have to be a manager it could be a teacher or a parent. That is when I realize that a great leader has always been right in front of me teaching me great values, and that is my mother.
