The Character of James Bond as a Barometer of His Time

In 1952 the novel Casino Royale first introduced the world to the
character of James Bond. Bond was a hero to pot-war adults and
children, who had lost confidence in the British ideology. Britain was
no longer a super power. It needed rebuilding after the devastation of
two world wars. James Bond reminded people of a time when Britainwas
great. It reminded men of an all powerful masculinity. The character
of James Bond was and is very much a product of its time.
James bond was created by Ian Fleming. Fleming was an old Etonian man
who spent most of the Second World War working for naval intelligence.
James Bond was very much based upon Fleming's experiences during the
war. The people he met would later become the characters in his books.
Fleming was a man who came from an upper class family of wealth and
distinction. He was extremely well educated, although he never truly
excelled academically. He was a man who made his own fortune, and
forged his own individual path in life.
Fleming's background is extremely similar to that of Bonds. It's clear
to see that Fleming has put his own values onto Bond. Due to this it
can be considered that Bond is a barometer of early 20th century
culture rather then that of the 1950's.
The main character in the book The Batboy by Mike Lupica is Brian Dudley. Brian tries to solve a big problem with one of the players on the Detroit Tigers, Hank Bishop. Brian knows more about baseball than most MLB players. He tries to get Hank Bishop to be a good hitter again. Hank started going through a slump and almost nobody believed in him. He struck out or grounded out almost every time. Brian helped him get out of his slump and get to his 500 home runs. Brian had three big character traits, nervous, respectful, and helpful. His character traits affected him by making him who he is and making him a great person. Nervous changed him because he needed to tell Hank what was wrong with his swing but he waited a long time.

The concept of people forging bonds to achieve their own ends is represented in day to day life. As bonding is common any form of relationship, from the professional bonds to interpersonal ones. Bonds works as a great theme encompassing aspects of trust, deceit, and consequence. As Fitzgerald’s book, The Great Gatsby, explores the idea of bonds in a 1920’s prohibition era. With the loose morals running amok in New York, few can develop a bond that holds more power than an empty face at a speakeasy or party. Those that have developed a deep bond with another hold the same potential to destroy that bond as well. Whether by taking an active role in removing oneself from the bond, or by through inaction and negligence. The theme of bonds is presented through Gatsby’s interactions Nick, Tom and Daisy’s strain within their relationship, and Nick’s presence in the world around him.
Risk is the exposure to danger. Taking risks are necessary because risk reveals experience to an individual. Hazard has both malevolent and benevolent outcomes, which can affect the overall atmosphere in a play. The content of William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice includes many scenarios of risk-taking among the relationships between characters. The Merchant of Venice consists of four different plots: the bond plot, casket plot, love plot, and ring plot; in which characters are exposed to danger. Risk serves a major responsibility as it divulges many elements of dramatic significance throughout the play. Shakespeare manifests hazard through rival arguments, lovers’ commitments, and father and child agreements.
The message of hope written into the novel by the author, Baroness Orczy, was important to me because hope is a universal emotion. Although the novel was biased toward those of a wealthy background, I thought the message of hope in the novel was more important than the message of sympathy because everyone can feel hope, but not everyone could feel sympathy toward characters such as Lady Marguerite Blakeney and Sir Percy Blakeney because they had lived lives of privilege before falling into difficult times.
The classic comic book character Batman, played by Christian Bale in the motion picture has an astonishingly complex character that is illustrated well with Aristotle’s perspective. Batman has two distinct characters, the one under the mask, Bruce Wayne and the one covered by the mask, Batman. Both have different sets of virtues that the other does not necessarily have. To explain these virtues, I will attempt to do an analysis of Batman based on Aristotle’s virtue. Then I will determine if he has a good life and whether others should mimic it.
indifference to curiosity and interest. As I was watching the film. Instead of getting bored or sleepy from the slow-paced scenes, I found myself wanting to know the message and meaning of the story behind the seemingly simple plot of the story. Because of the film’s simplicity and subtleness. pacing, I became more aware of the symbolisms and deeper meanings.

Ian Fleming not just created the character of James Bond; he personified him by living an exciting life. With his suave style and long history of lavished background he was almost born into the part of his later creation.
