The shooting in San Bernardino California was a tragic and terrible even that was taken place. The FBI and Apple have been negotiating about hacking into an iPhone to get to one of the terrorists phones and figure out what other things they are planning to do and get to. In order to get into the phone Apple has to create a “backdoor” into the phone so that the government can try and log into the phone as many times as possible and that causes a problem for Apple: Apple CEO Tim Cook said late Tuesday that the company would oppose the ruling. In a message to customers published on Apple's website, he said: "We can find no precedent for an American company being forced to expose its customers to a greater risk of attack. For years, cryptologists
In doing so, they used 3 different logical structures in their arguments: precedent, degree, and analogies. Tim Cook debated with a constructive argument, “to guarantee such a powerful tool isn’t abused and don’t fall into the wrong hands is to never create it” (The Guardian, 2016). This is an example of degree argument, as the audience will automatically agree with any arguments with less of bad things because it is good. Apple knows there are no other cases like this one, so there’s nothing to compare to. Letting the government into the iPhone only this one time can set a dangerous precedent that can potentially force Apple to force open every iPhone in the future at government request. This became a heated legal battle, granting the access in their products for law enforcement was compared to “a political question” by Apple with an analogy (Yadron,
April 20th, 1999, Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, experienced a mass shooting. Thirteen people were injured and more than twenty were injured. Twelve were students and one was a teacher. Two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold opened fire on their high school for forty one minutes before turning their guns on themselves and committing suicide. School shootings are notorious for making headline news but in 1999, school shooting were not as prevalent as they are in the present day. The media blew up on the catastrophe that was Columbine and many questions were raised, who were these kids and why did they do this? Speculation arose about why they did it. Maybe they were bullied for being goth and social outcasts or maybe they
Should Apple be forced to unlock an iPhone or not? It becomes a controversial topic during these years. Most people are concerned with their privacy and security. Darrell Issa is a congressman and has served the government since 2001. Recently, he published “Forcing Apple to Hack That iPhone Sets a Dangerous Precedent” in Wired Magazine, to persuade those governors worked in the Congress. It is easier to catch administrators’ attention because some of them want to force Apple to unlock the iPhone. Darrel Issa focuses on governors because he thinks they can support the law to make sure that everyone has privacy. He addresses the truth that even some of the governors force Apple to hack iPhones when they need people’s information. He considers maintaining people’s privacy as the primary purpose. He also insists that Apple should not be forced to use their information which could lead people’s safety. In “Forcing Apple to Hack That iPhone Sets a Dangerous Precedent,” Darrell Issa uses statistics and historical evidence to effectively persuade his audience of governors that they need to consider whether or not Apple should be forced to hack or not because it could bring people to a dangerous situation and forget the purpose of keeping people’s privacy.
My name is Jim, just Jim it’s easier this way, and I was one of the nine survivors in the Waco compound standoff. Before I go into what I think went wrong to our religious sanctuary, let me tell you how I met David and a little about our great deciple.
On December 14th 2012, just 11 days before Christmas, an awful tragedy happened in Newtown, Connecticut. Twenty-six people were shot at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. This awful event left a lot of unanswered questions and rumors about that day. The reason for that is because the shooter killed himself after shooting twenty young children and six adults. This tragedy open the eyes of everyone; made you want to hug your loves one just a little tighter, appreciate what you still have and never take a day for granted. Even our president Barack Obama felt the pain of all those who lost their loved ones in this event. He insured everyone that he will do everything in his power to make sure a tragedy like this will not happen again. However, did you know that there have been over 44 school shootings since the tragedy of Sandy Hook Elementary shooting? I know as a future teacher and mother I want to make sure my children are safe in this world and even at school. I want to be able to make a difference in this issue and have some knowledge to have I can do that. The society should understand what really happen during the Sandy Hook event, the reasons behind why school shootings/violence are rapidly increasing each year, and have some knowledge about what we, as a society, can do to help in order for us to start seeing a decrease of these events.
In today 's generation many adults and teenagers keep everything from contacts numbers to their social security numbers on their smartphones. When customers, including criminals and terrorists purchase their smartphones, they are buying it with the assurance that not some, but all of their information and privacy will be safeguarded. The issue occurring today deals with the suspected terrorist of the San Bernardino, California on December 2, 2015 shooting involving over 30 injured people. Syed Farook, the suspected terrorist Apple IPhone is locked with a 4 code password and the government wants Apple to create a backdoor operating systems that allows them to computerize as many passcodes they can to unlocks the terrorists IPhone. Apple strongly believes that creating this necessary backdoor system will create a negative chain of effects that will affect everyone from smartphone users to social media companies and their privacy. The FBI recently has taken Apple to court to create the necessary backdoor operating systems to get around the security features created on the Apple IPhones. Apple has the legal right to refuse creating a “backdoor” software to get into suspected terrorists iphone because it invades the privacy of Apple 's customers, it will set a precedent for other companies, and the FBI will mislead Apple.
In this micro-study, I will use tools and information available to the public via internet in attempt to hack the iPhone. Currently the iPhone is only sold to subscribers of the AT&T telecommunication service provider and all applications and updates are installed using Apple’s iTunes software. Using various resources I will focus the two main issues which have put Apple and the iPhone user community into the limelight. First, the “unlocking” of the iPhone, which bypasses the iTunes activations process and allows the device to be used on any SIM (Subscriber Information Module) card cellular phone service provider other than AT&T, in this micro-study I will be using a T-Mobile SIM card. Second, I will attempt to “jailbreak” the device, which will allow me to install third-party applications through underground sources and not directly from Apple. As I attempt to hack the iPhone, I will compare drawbacks and benefits of hacking methods, ease of use, and verify Apple’s claims on affecting functionality and possible damag...
As FBI confirmed that they managed to unlock the terrorist mobile, then this makes Apple worried that the hackers would not send this specific technique to other hackers. Apple needs to work very fast that FBI would not be able to use this specific hacking method for too long time. [9]
These products, built upon incredible foresight and attention to detail, carried tremendous customer loyalty and high margins. Apple management must bridge the perceived innovation gap with some sort of product breakthrough. Otherwise, it is reasonable for the company to accept lower Street expectations built upon the premise that while the company remains an exceptional production, distribution and branded business, the days of unparalleled enterprising innovation and leadership may be ebbing. The best things to do, by Cook, would be to have a VP that replace the innovation brought by Jobs and be in charge only on innovation.
It is expected for such a company to feel obligated to deliver upon the American dream. The publicity of such comments does not only affect a company’s reputation but also financial performance. Apple have a role in ensuring that America as a nation grows, itself having been molded by the country’s economic muscle and enabling environment for business. The point in this is that, although the company is obliged to make better products, America is one of her best markets and it has an obligation to its market.
He was also the CEO during the creation and release of the Apple Watch, which is a product most would classify as "insanely great". While Steve Jobs opposed dividends and buybacks, Tim Cook has accommodated Wall Street with dividends and buybacks, as well as donating money to charities of employee’s choice. According to an article by Alex Daniels (2015) in Philanthropy.com, "Under Mr. Cook, Apple instituted a program that has matched $25 million in employees financial contributions to charities since 2011. " Apple has also extended the matching program to include employee volunteer time. For every hour an employee volunteers, Apple donates $50 to a charity the employee chooses.
After three tumultuous decades, Apple recently surpassed Microsoft to become the largest technology firm in the world. Since his return 13 years ago, Steve Jobs has steered Apple through profound changes to create completely new product lines, such as: iPod, iTunes, iPhone, Apple TV and Macbook Pro. According to the Boston Consulting Group’s growth-share matrix, Apple’s growth coupled with a steady market share is elevating them into “star” status. The company’s ability to dominate the marketplace and reinvent entire industries has strategically positioned Apple and relatively insulated them from the competition (Exhibit A, B). This “Apple bubble” in the market has yet to be penetrated. To avoid repeating historical mistakes, Apple needs to tread carefully on licensing, partnerships, and premium pricing—factors that served as significant obstacles in the founding stages of the company.
Many companies today are working towards making sure their businesses are running smoothly and being responsible when it comes to employment practices and ethical standards. Apple, for instance, is one of the many companies that has recently found out that not all regions it has factories in are following the guidelines necessary for running.
Apple is a technology company based in Cupertino in California, they are the biggest company in the world with as stated by Statista. (2017) “a market value of 752 million U.S Dollars”. While Apple’s incredible success has lead them to the top, recently it was revealed that they had hidden software updates that would affect the performance of certain iPhones. Clover, J. (2018) states “The power management issue impacts the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus, but only in situations where battery health has declined. Affected iPhones see throttling during times of peak power usage, such as when running a benchmark.” This has left many consumers unhappy as they were not told in the patch notes that the change had been implemented. Having received so much backlash, EverthingApplePro. (2017) stated in his video that “The
Over years, iOS devices are always attractive in appearance. However, they are more than meets the eye. Because of the fact that all applications and services run on its own platform, this makes Apple a more credible name in the security domain than Android. Therefore, it is generally more difficult for hackers to target iOS's users than Android's. iOS devices also have new advanced feature that was first introduced by Apple, which is Touch ID. It is integrated into home button and can recognize fingerprint to unlock screen, offering a higher security
