This was followed by a seal-method, the act of linking documents with wax and fabric lace. Almost 600 years accepted before any serious effort was made to enhance the lace securer.
In 1835, a New York physician known as David Ireland in Europe Howe developed and developed the first truly realistic device for mass-producing strong head directly hooks. In a relatively brief time frame, directly hooks were being marketed by the half lb for the precise objective of momentarily attaching documents together.

The Future
The Gem clip has held sway against other contenders in paper clip design for a very long time. All-plastic paper clips came on the market in the 1950s, to some success, followed by plastic-coated clips. In the 1990s, a Pennsylvania company began marketing what looks like essentially a giant Gem clip, which can hold more than one hundred sheets of paper at one time. None of these developments differs markedly from the turn-of-the-century design consumers are so familiar with. This leads to the question of whether the Gem clip is already a perfect design, thus leaving no room for improvement.

The inventor, Richard Drew, grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. After dropping out of college, he miraculously obtained a job, working for the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company or more commonly known as 3M. Drew was hired to take trial products to auto shops around the city. A prevalent problem that auto shop workers faced when painting cars in the 1920s was the residue of the tape that was left after tearing the tape off. Drew, wanting to solve the problem, decided to design a new type of tape that would not leave residue, or diminish the color of the paint job. After trying various techniques and different materials, he found his fix, and in 1925, 3M launched Richard Drew’s ...
One of the most misunderstood characters in Jean Rhys’s Wide Sargasso Sea is Christophine. Christophine was a wedding present to Antoinette’s mother, and she was a slave in their family since then. The reason that she comes off as so misunderstood is because it is never revealed explicitly in the text whether she is “good” or “bad”. Her involvement in the practice of obeah adds to the mysterious air about her in the novel. Obeah is a practice that is not an official religion, but there is a community who are involved in the practice that has “a wide variety and range of beliefs and practices related to the control or channeling of supernatural/spiritual forces” (Bilby 153). The practices are done “by particular individuals or groups for their own needs, or on behalf of clients who come for help” (Bilby 154). The practice has gone from having an acceptable reputation to a negative one. As the years went on in times of slavery, and especially during post-emancipation times, obeah gained more of a reputation as witchcraft or sorcery and it was said that it was used to bring harm to people (Bilby 153). The positive aspects of obeah were soon paid minimal attention, and the negative aspects and disapproving stereotypes were on the rise. The negativity was so prevalent and contagious that some West Indians who were involved in the practice began to have a pessimistic view as well (Bilby 153). This negative view followed obeah into the novel Wide Sargasso Sea. The practice was shown in a very negative light in the novel, especially through Christophine. Christophine is a representation of obeah in the novel. Throughout many points in the story, the fact that Christophine is involved with obeah practices is portrayed as the m...
In Brent Staples essay, “Cutting and Pasting: A Senior Thesis by (Insert Name),” (2010), the author argues that plagiarism is a big problem in colleges and he wants people who plagiarize to know why it's wrong. Staples supports his claim about plagiarism by revealing stories of professors who have had students who plagiarized and by the professors giving their thoughts and opinions on plagiarism. Staples purpose in using the professors stories with cheating is to get people to understand that plagiarism is common in order for there to be more original. Staples want parents, teachers, and policy makers to preserve the methods through which education at its best teaches people to think critically and originally.
Moderata Fonte’s Venetian ladies debated the worth of women while cavorting in their fictional garden in 1605; Tempel Anneke met her unhappy fate in the 1660s. The seemingly enlightened and forward-looking feminist attitudes articulated in Fonte's text were absent from the Brunswick courtroom where the allegations against Tempel Anneke eventually brought about her death. The two accounts illustrate the differences in the attitudes towards women between European states during the 17th century. The differences are technically religiously based, however, they deal with the differences of the specific regional factors of the areas discussed. The differences explain why the attitudes of Fonte’s ladies and the persecutors of Tempel coexisted in roughly the same era. Fonte's ladies are Italian Catholics, and Anna's neighbors are German Protestants, therefore, the ideals of women are varied based on religious experience. Additionally, the theory of reason of state that came about with the consolidation of authority consisted of centralization and secularism that subordinated the social role ...
Guns have been around for many centuries. Why should gun control advocates make stricter laws for people to own a gun now? Quote by Luke Scott reads: “Crime is actually less in places where people own guns. Washington, D.C., is a case in point. It has the strictest gun laws, but who has the highest crime rate in the country? Washington, D.C.”. Many people say that creating stricter gun laws would help in reducing crime and robberies. But people use guns for self-defense against those types of crimes. If gun control laws were enforced, the Second Amendment would be violated. In addition, guns will be less accessible for law-abiding citizens to purchase. Crime rate will not diminish if stricter gun laws are enacted.
Paperclips are an everyday use in today's world. They hold our papers together, when we don’t want to use a stapler that will poke the unwanted holes into our paper. They also keep our papers organized and neat. There are many types of paper clips that were created, but only a few really were the ones. Over the many years, since ancient Eurasia, the clip has made its way through many patents, inventors, machines, and much more. There are many different colors, sizes, forms of paper clips.
All DCM (Discovering a Christian Mind) classes at Calvin read Cornelius Plantinga Jr.’s Engaging God’s World, which discusses why it is valuable to aim to live Christ-like in today’s world. In his book Plantinga explains basic Christian beliefs and Reformed doctrines by highlighting God’s creation, the fall, and human redemption by Jesus’ death on a cross. The ideas of creation, fall, and redemption are displayed by the actions of male protagonists in three major plays: The Tempest by William Shakespeare, The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, and Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller.
James Rosenquist was born November 29 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. In junior high James won a scholarship that allowed him to attend Minneapolis School of Art at the Minneapolis Art Institute. James studied at the University of Minnesota alongside artist, Cameron Booth and at the Art Institute of Chicago. He left for New York after receiving a scholarship to the Art Students League, where he studied with artists including Morris Kantor, George Grosz, and Edwin Dickinson. The education gained from the Art Students League gained him a job in designing billboards, some including billboards in Time Square. In the 1960’s, “Rosenquist transformed the visual language of commercial painting onto his canvases, filling his large-scale pictures with fragmented advertising imagery in bright Day-Glo colors.” (Artists) In 1961, James was granted
Kareem is a talented undergraduate student who I have had the privilege of working with in nuclear science research over the past year. We have worked on two separate neutron activation analysis projects together. He has also taken my upper level course in Nuclear and Particle Physics (UTPA course # PHYS 4309) with honors during the fall semester of 2013 and has expressed interest in my participation as his honors thesis advisor. It is a pleasure to offer this letter of recommendation for the DOE SULI program.
