Great Britain, in the 1960s form the middle of the North Sea on a barge came a signal which blared forbidden Rock ‘N’ Roll to all who would dear to list, Pirate Radio. A film written by “Richard Curtis”, originally titled The Boat That Rocked was released in 2009, and depicts the struggle to gain the simple rights of freedom of speech and expression, all the while showing the unbreakable bond that developed between the men and one woman, and still maintaining a comical feel. Living on a ship, docked in the middle of the sea, just outside government jurisdiction doing what they all love, sharing Rock’n Roll over the radio waves, share this wonderful treasure of expression with whoever wants to list. Which is a little unbelievable because of the accuracy of the costume designs and the setting on the ship. The greatest part of the production of Pirate Radio would without a doubt have to be the ridiculously awesome soundtrack. Regardless of weather the watcher loves or hates the film, they could never deny how great the soundtrack is, even if you are not a fan of Rock ‘N‘ Roll you may change your mind after watching this film. Every song seemed to flow seamlessly with the scene. The songs added an abundance of intensity and emotion to the film, which would have been lacking if not for the precise placement of each song. This was at a time when The Beatles, The Who, The Kinks, and The Rolling Stones ruled the air waves all over the world. British government only allowed for a measly two hours per week. Which in todays society would be considered ridicules, we would never stand for the government to even attempt to sensor our music! RollingStone states “couple that with blasts of Brit rock from the Beatles and the Stones to Dusty Springfield and David Bowie, and the ship is unsinkable.” The film Pirate Radio is truly a work of art, the way it encompassed so many different levels of emotions, ranging from friendships being formed without out words, a son finally learning who his father is, and forming an instant bond. Friend will to defend each others honor regardless of the consequence, and the willingness to give your last breath doing what they loved, and that was playing Rock ‘N’
The film elects to use a soundtrack comprised of only popular music from the 1970s. Frith writes, “The sociologist of contemporary popular music is faced with a body of songs, records, stars and styles which exists because of a series of decisions, made by both producers and consumers, about what is a successful sound” (Frith, 134). I reference this quote because it is important to note that this film was released in 1993. The people who are responsible for choosing the soundtrack have the luxury of knowing what music is able to ...
“Radio” is such a classic film because of the accuracy of the story. It received a 36% on Rotten Tomatoes (Rotten Tomatoes). However, I feel that it deserves a 90% or more. Radio’s character was very vibrant and true to life, and it resonated with the majority of viewers. However, not everyone felt that way. Radio was also discriminated against by a police officer. He had trouble communicating with the officer who had stopped him because he was suspicious, and because of that, the officer became frustrated and decided to arrest him, when he had committed no
The movie On the Waterfront begins with a long shot and the surroundings on the edge of a waterfront. There is a dark lighting like sunset is about to hit, and we are able to see a giant cruise liner in the harbor. The giant boat stands out in the light, and the much of the water is dark. There are many horizontal lines that define the giant boat, and a few vertical lines are able to get distinguished by the small boat with the mast on it as well as the shed on the side. The music has rapidity and suspense that leads you to think that something bad is about to happen. The camera has a long shot that moves to medium. The long shot is balancing with the rapid music because since there is a long short is not as suspense with the hurried music and you feel more comfortable. The Men come out of the small shed by the dock. They walk in a linear form, one behind the other, wearing long dark coats with a mysterious look on their faces. Most of them are wearing the long coats that fall to their knees, and one of them is wearing a square pattern shirt with his right hand in his jacket , his and expressions unhappy.
A week ago, I went to watch Deadpool Movie in the cinema, and a short part of Bohemian Rhapsody song by Queen was played, I had not heard the song before that day. While it was playing my friend told me that this song is considered as one of the greatest songs in history. After the movie, I started wondering about what makes it that great, and that’s when I started listening to the song repeatedly and reading about it. According to McLeod, Ken (May 2001). "Bohemian Rhapsodies: Operatic Influences on Rock Music". Popular Music (Cambridge University Press). After analyzing the song, I knew where this is coming from, and I genuinely believe that Queen band earned all the success they have got for creating such glamorous and unique song.
I’ve never heard of the story of radio that inspired this movie. The genre of this movie is drama. This movie is very dramatic, because it has ups and downs. It is based on a true story in Anderson, South carolina which I was not surprise about, because it is an extremely realistic. The film was condensed to take place over the course of one year 1976-1977. This story could happen to anybody around me.
Many films are based on historical events or information. However, the movies typically romanticize the history that they are inspired by. In Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides there are some elements of historical piracy, such as the use of privateers, women disguised as male pirates, and class on board ships. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is a Hollywood film that is inspired by historical accounts, which also uses drama and romanticism to appeal to the general public. Throughout the film there are parts of historical piracy that are shown.

The Open Boat is a particularly interesting story because of the great detail that author extends and because of the solitary reflections of the characters in consideration of their demise.

I was smacked in the face by a gust of hot, humid Texas air as I found my way off the bus. The once brisk morning was getting hotter by the second. My friend Kristi and I looked towards our left and there she was, the Norwegian Sea. The cruise liner that we would be on for the next week. It was the biggest ship I had ever seen up close. Ten stories high and nearly 1000 feet long. It had an intimidating presence that took one's breath away.
As friends, we all make sacrifices for each other. Some friends risk their lives for a friend. An example of this true friendship can be found in the movie, American Pie.
