Personality is defined as a person's differences to another in regards to their patterns of behavior, thinking, and emotional responses (American Psychological Association). The Big Five Personality Traits are Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism, or OCEAN for short. Openness is essentially correlated to exploring new things. The people that have high levels of this trait are generally more apt to do things like try different types of food, be more creative, and have the ability to tackle challenging problems. People who are low on this trait generally have a dislike for change, tend to not enjoy trying new things, and are generally more traditional in a sense.. They get energy from being around other people and tend to be more sociable. Those who have larger amounts of this trait also are more likely to be excitable,enjoy starting new conversations, and in general like to be the center of attention. As for those with lower levels of this trait, or introverts, they are the opposite. They have to sometimes retreat from places with large amounts of social interaction in order to recharge. In a social setting they have to expend energy rather than gain it like an extravert. Next is Agreeableness, which is a trait that when expressed by someone, is shown as caring about others, being empathetic and generally enjoy helping other people. Someone who has a lot of this characteristic are the listeners in a group of people. They’re the ones who empathize with others. Many even become social workers (King). Others who have lower levels of agreeableness normally don’t have much interest in other people, are closed off, and have no interest in others issues. In a study done on the genetic and environmental factors influencing the emergence of these traits it was shown that both of these play large factors. In his job as a hunter he generally can’t have the qualities stated under this trait like soft heartedness, or being trusting. If he isn’t ruthless and suspicious of the people he meets he could get killed. Monsters come in all sizes and shapes. There’s many who can take on the face of a loved one, or a victim. Many also have practice at waylaying people into getting killed. There’s a basic system of tests that bypasses this. Hunters use holy water on other hunters for demons, silver for shifters, and salt for pretty much everything else. However, on the other side when he does trust someone he’s generous with his time and effort. He’d go the distance for his family especially, which is seen in season two when his brother is killed by a knife to the back. It takes him two days but he eventually makes a deal with a demon, and sells his soul for Sam to live. The catch is that he only has a year left before being sent to Hell. As another example he is helpful to strangers. He saves people from monsters to the detriment of his own health. The biggest example being that he and his brother sent Lucifer back to hell in season five, and lost almost all of their friends in doing so.
