Leadership, the ability to influence a group toward achievement of a vision or set of goals (Kursh, Lant, Majeske, Olver, Plant 232), embodies the theme of the Aston – Blair Case, and it reinforces the importance of good leadership involving teams compiled to achieve specific results. Leadership is an important element in business, and good leadership fosters productive relationships; establishes clear lines of effort, roles, and communication; and inspires individuals to perform despite conflict or personal biases. Bacon’s inexperience and limited management background displays an inability to communicate effectively, and effective communication is an essential element of leadership and group work of this type. As the group chairman, Bacon’s …show more content…
Cornelius’s acquisition of Bodin’s information. Meir received vague guidance when Bacon delineated tasks, but Meir “suspected that the regional sales managers were hiding information” (Gabarro 5). Thus, Meir’s knowledge of this information supports an element of Bodin’s report. However, Meir’s relationship with Bacon hindered the flow of information between the two and process conflict “relating to how the work gets done” (Kursh, Lant, Majeske, Olver, Plant 183) resulted. This is best remedied temporarily through avoidance given the present situation since “more important issues are pressing” (Kursh, Lant, Majeske, Olver, Plant …show more content…
The apparent lack of communication from the market managers suggests their intent is not clearly understood. It is important that Bacon employ a strategy of upward communication and collaboration to “find an integrative solution” (Kursh, Lant, Majeske, Olver, Plant 297). Bodin’s information holds a critical piece to the success or failure of the team’s efforts. It is important that Bacon understands the details and the importance of Bodin’s critical information, and its full impact of the work relative to the group. The case points out that Dr. Cornelius “can get the information from Burns himself” (Gabarro 6), and information that bears this type of relevance and impact effects multiple elements of the business. However, addressing the information in the report ahead of the meeting places all the relevant details in the open to reach a solution to the forecasting

69. The Bank proved to be very unpopular among western land speculators and farmers, especially after the Panic of 1819 because it was one of the major contributors to inflation. It held federal tax receipts and regulated the amount of money circulating in the economy. Some people felt that that the Bank, and its particular president, had too much power to restrict the potentially profitable business dealings of smaller banks.
In Tim Seibles' poem, The Case, he reviews the problematic situations of how white people are naturally born with an unfair privilege. Throughout the poem, he goes into detail about how colored people become uncomfortable when they realize that their skin color is different. Not only does it affect them in an everyday aspect, but also in emotional ways as well. He starts off with stating how white people are beautiful and continues on with how people enjoy their presence. Then he transitions into how people of color actually feel when they encounter a white person. After, he ends with the accusation of the white people in today's world that are still racist and hateful towards people of color.
In the late 1940’s and early 1950’s there were many issues that involved racial segregation with many different communities. A lot of people did not took a stand for these issues until they were addressed by other racial groups. Mendez vs Westminster and Brown vs The Board of Education, were related cases that had to take a stand to make a change. These two cases helped many people with different races to come together and be able to go to school even if a person was different than the rest.
Criminal law attempts to balance the rights of individuals to freedom from interference with person or property, and society’s need for order. Procedural matters, the rights of citizens and powers of the state, specific offences and defences, and punishment and compensation are some of the ways society and the criminal justice system interact.
The topic of leadership has been explored and written about by thousands of authors who are considerably more qualified than I am to write about the subject. However, I’ve always maintained that developing, evolving and articulating one’s own leadership philosophy is an essential part of a professional’s growth. Through academics and experience, I’ve concluded that leadership is a “soft” skill, more art than science, and that leadership principles can be universally applied. As a topic of discussion, leadership can be ambiguous and seldom does everyone agree on a single definition. Organizations and the people they consist of crave leadership, even if not overtly. Undeniably, strong leadership is essential to achieving
The Trent Affair was a problem of international affairs in which the U.S. Navy captured two confederate diplomats who were traveling on a British ship. The British government protested because of this and the people were released because the northerners didn't want to involve Britain in the civil war and didn't want to fight with them. The Trent Affair took place from November to December of the year 1861. When the crisis erupted the captain of the USS San Jacinto was ordering the arrest of two confederate envoys sailing to Europe aboard a British mail ship without the British’s knowledge. The name of the ship they were aboard was called the Trent. The reason behind the Confederate generals boarding the British ship is to seek for support for the south in the Civil War that Began
Leadership is an important attribute in individuals such as managers, academic experts, and researchers. The topic of leadership continues to gain popularity and importance in almost all sectors. The way leaders in managerial positions communicate determines their effectiveness and success in achieving high levels of performance and success in their organizations. There are numerous books that provide an insight into effective leadership and communication. One of such books is by Atwater and Waldman (2012). This paper provides a summary, contextual analysis and critique of the book.
Steven Truscott, age 14, was sentenced to the death penalty for a schoolmate’s murder, providing little to no evidence then, and still 48 years later. In 1959 Truscott was known and referred to as Canada’s youngest death-row inmate following a short 15-day trial contributing no substantial evidence against him. The evidence that was used to convict Truscott was the forensic evidence given by John Penista, which was later on proven incorrect. Many witnesses came out on what happened the night of Lynn Harpers death but none of these testimonies were included in the original police report.
Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.

The emphasis on leaders being not just executives and managers, and that not all executives and managers are leaders, is extremely vital. Anyone can strive to be a leader in whatever organization in which they are involved. Bennis and Nanus claim that leadership is about character, setting the example for how team members treat one other (and in a corporate setting, their clients as well), being truthful and sustaining organizational trust, and encouraging themselves and others to learn. On one hand, it can be easy to see how many people in leadership positions do no match up to these standards of leadership. On the other, it seems a bit like common sense to be truthful to others and to effectively communicate with people who work together everyday. Leaders is an effective tool for summarizing and inspiring leadership not in that it teaches tough strategies and manipulations, but that when looking at an overview of its content, Bennis and Nanus are essentially teaching human relations and human decency. All in all, this book highlights strategies for us all to be better in our lives and our everyday
