The American dream is something common to most people, but it is something that everyone views in different ways. Many people emigrate to the United States in search of the American Dream such as; equality, and the opportunity to pursuit their goals in life that they couldn’t achieve in their homeland. The term “The American Dream” has a few meaning, but one of the most popular is “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” (Declaration of Independence1). In America more than 75% of students required to take remedial classes never graduate. 70% of Americans will study at a 4-year college, but less than 2/3 will graduate. 30% of college and university student drop out after their first year. 60% of college dropouts had no help from parent in paying for tuition, meanwhile, in Germany you have the chance to attend college which no tuition fees. Financial Aid, Student Loans and Scholarships, a majority of us are not and are paying out of pocket fees. Thomas Wolfe said “…to every man, regardless of his birth, his shining, golden opportunity… the right to live, to work, to be himself, and to become whatever thing his manhood and his vision can combine to make him” (Wolfe2). This quote explains how many in the United States gets the right to fulfill this American dream. Martin Jischke sates that term “the American Dream” was coined in 1931 in a book titled Epic of America by James Truslow Adams. In that book, Adams states that “The American dream land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement” (Adams2). Adams, basically says that everyone has equal opportunity to succeed. No matter your race, religion or ethnicity, they all have the same exact chance at success. He goes on to say that “It is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position” (Adams). If an individual works hard to achieve their goals, their own personal American Dream, then they will succeed in their effort. So does the American Dream has to necessarily be achieve in American or can if just be achieved anywhere if you work hard
