The American Dream Education Essay

The term American Dream was initially set by James Truslow Adams in his book The Epic of American which was written in 1931. In the book, James Truslow Adams (1931) stated that the American Dream was a dream of having a land to stay; each person had a better, richer and more fulfilling life, and those who had the ability or achievement were always full of opportunities. In the video of the American Dream, it assumes that is also a belief that as long as the American do a hard struggle, they will be able to achieve the idea of a successful life. It’s suitable to say in the 21st century in some specific example but not all situation. (Citation) In addition, American Dream existed long before the words created. In the colonial period, the immigrants

arrived in the North America in order to pursuit religious liberty, hunt grounds and personal success which was original American Dream.

(Wadnouni, 2014) Importantly, in 2007, in Obama's speech on the American Dream (2007), Obama proposed a detailed American Dream in many fields such as widespread education, well-paid employment, respectful retirement, affordable health care, honest and homeownership. Obama concluded that American Dream would come true through policies. (Wadnouni, 2014) While part of people thinks their lives are already achieving the education goal of American Dream, the policies of American Dream didn’t exactly make more people success or it can say that majority people are still on the way to chase the success of those fields, especially for education.
Introduction to Education
Education, a key to the future of the development of country because nearly everyone will agree with that the “surest way to achieve the American dream is through education”, especially for the poor guy, should be advanced by some measures.

(Blumenfeld, 2014) Also, Nicholas Kristof has pointed out “the best escalator to opportunity in America is education.” (Kristof, 2014) However, the reality of education situation showed in Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (O.E.C.D.) survey presented that the current percentage of education is less than the percentage in our parent’s generation. (Kristof, 2014) Ironically, though the elementary and secondary education in America is universal, the quality of education prevents those talent children from advancing in knowledge, which make their way to realizing American Dream is a limit to sports and entertainment fields. (Blumenfeld, 2014) Furthermore, not only Americans are chasing American Dream, but also the international students filled with the education goal of American Dream, which make the competition of degree in a college or university more complicated. Ways the government can do
Whoever the president is, they are want to achieve American Dream. But the reality is that policies are always difficult to bring out. (Citation) President Obama (2007) put forward that students could go to the school and college even if they didn’t come from wealthy families All the poor students could get a fair education chance. Nevertheless, in chapter 8 of Ten Letters, Eli Saslow (2011) presented the measures that Obama took because of Na Dreya’s letter. What it stated in the letter was that the students like Na Dreya couldn’t get the fair education opportunity unless they went to a charter school which would cost extra money. (Saslow, 2011) After reading the letter, Obama made Arne Duncan take measures to save education. For instance, set the funding to inspire students as well as fire plenty of teachers to make education more efficient. (Saslow, 2011)
Furthermore, the student loan is one of the most significant ways to help students to get the better education. President Obama once said: “Let's tell another one million students that when they graduate, they will be required to pay only 10 percent of their income on student loans, and all of their debt will be forgiven after 20 years –- and forgiven after 10 years if they choose a career in public service, because in the United States of America, no one should go broke because they chose to go to college.” (Obama, 2010) So the government will make sure that student loans are Affordable. There are three measures to take in this student reform policy: limiting payments to 10 percent of income, forgiving any remaining debt after 20 years, or those in public service after 10 years, fully funded by Student Loan Reforms. (Whitehouse.gov, 2011)
For limiting payments to 10 percent of income, the poor student which graduate from school will be less stressful because the majority can pay no more than 10 percent of their income with the basic living allowance, which has reduced a lot under that law at that time. They are qualified to reduce their monthly payments. (Whitehouse.gov, 2011)
Forgiving any remaining debt after twenty years, or after ten years for those in public service. Students who take responsibility for their loans and make their monthly payments forgiven after twenty years of payments although they have their remaining balance to pay, which reduced from twenty-five years in law at that time. Public service workers such as teachers, nurses, and those in military service will see any remaining debt forgiven after 10 years. (Whitehouse.gov, 2011)
Fully funded by Student Loan Reforms: These new initiatives are funded by ending the current subsidies given to financial institutions that make guaranteed federal student loans. Starting July 1, all new loans will be direct loans delivered and collected by private companies under performance-based contracts with the Department of Education. According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, ending these wasteful subsidies will free up nearly $68 billion for college affordability and deficit reduction over the next 11 years. (Whitehouse.gov, 2011)
Moreover, the government’s agenda also make sure some other measures like “increasing investments in America’s community colleges, historically Black Colleges and Universities and other Minority-Serving Institutions and simplifying the federal student aid application (FAFSA) making it easier to apply for college financial aid.” (Whitehouse.gov, 2011)
In addition, the government should establish some policies to make economic prosperity other than a scene that the rich are richer and the poor are poorer and the poor can go to the college. (Citation)
Ways the student can do
Afterward, in the current education, though increasing number of students are able to get well-educated in the college and university, the cost and students' debt are also increased with that, which means students will still spend a lot on their education. (Citation) When they graduate from school, they might take much more debt than they can handle, which make graduate student work for paying back loans other than saving money to pay other bills such as healthcare, life expenses. (Bryant, 2016) Therefore, the student employment is worse than before. (Citation)The employment reality is difficult to effectuate policy and a little different from the theory of American dream. (Citation) President Obama (2007) presented that the economy would grow up and the government would protect and extend the opportunities for people. While in the article Youth, Job, and the American Dream, Vital Speeches of the Day (2014) assumed that only a few students work in their bachelors’ degree fields. And sadly, well-educated white collars’ salaries are not very good and then they have to settle for a blue-collar job—a work makes people get dirty every day and don't require a good education level. (Bryant, 2016)

Conclusion
In conclusion, the reality of current American Dream in education, employment and homeownership are hard to realize the goal that once proposed in the policies of American Dream. The original definition of American Dream says: “Work hard and you will achieve prosperity.” (Wadnouni, 2014) As a matter of fact, the American Dream is not very easy to achieve though government establishes those policies but it can help.
