The American Dream Ever since the beginning of the United States of America, there has been American dream has been there. People from all over the world have come to America to try to achieve this dream of wealth and fame. The American dream however is not one that is easy to achieve and gives you the easy way to the top. Some people will make it others will not, but all will be given the chance. Ronald Reagan, the fortieth president of the United States, stated that "The American dream is not that every man must be level with every other man. The American dream is that every man must be free to become whatever God intends he should become”. The American dream was in America long before we made a constitution or defeated England in the Revolutionary War. People have been coming over in search of a better life wince the discovery of the new land. The dream today however is still alive and obtainable, but much harder than it was in the 1800’s and 1900’s. Today most people come out of college with student loans that takes the average person ten years to pay off. Also with all the taxes that are now put on everyone it is much harder to get ahead. Starting a business today is also near impossible as over half of new businesses fail within the first two years. Less and less people are able to achieve the dream and rise from poverty to fame and success. People who reach the dream today are more likely to be movie stars not small town business owners. Along with all these financial problems, people's faith in the American dream is diminishing also.
