The Almost Perfect Day
Some of the best times I have in the summertime are riding my jetski. One of my best friends, who also has a ski, go out almost everyday in the summer. We would sometimes even wake up around six o'clock in the morning just to ride the glossy surf at Sandy Hook. There was one great day I had on the ski…
It was around seven in the morning when I heard my phone ring. It was my buddy Jared waking me up to tell me to meet him at the Channel Club Marina to go out on our jetskis. I told him I would meet him there in about a half-hour. When I got to the marina Jared told me the swells at Sandy Hook were about five foot, which makes for nice wave jumping.
We got our skis all ready; we filled them up with oil and gas, checked the spark plugs, and checked the engine. Finally, we were ready to head out to the ocean for a day of fun.
We made our way out down the Navesink River, passing McCloone's and The Quay in Seabright doing around sixty miles per hour. Man, that's the best feeling around. We then headed under the Sandy Hook Bridge, and I could already feel the swells beneath my ski.It was early morning, so all the fishing boats from Highlands were heading out with us. The early morning fog was just lifting too, so that made for some nice scenic views of all the little islands and coves that make up Sandy Hook.
We entered the channel that leads right into the ocean and just flew the rest of the way to our destination. As we came around the northern most tip of the Hook we clearly saw that the waves were pretty huge, especially for jetski riding. We both raced to the first big wave we saw, hit it head on, and must have launched at least six feet into the air, which was nothing compared to the air that would come later.
About an hour went by and both of our gas tanks were running a little low. We decided to head back toward the Sandy Hook Bridge to get gas at a place called Bahrs in Highlands, which is also a restaurant. So we jetted back toward the bridge and filled our jetskis up to the brim with gas.
To Kill a Mockingbird is a strong novel filled with innocence and human dignity. The most interesting and emotional part of the novel is the trial between an “untouchable” in the society and an innocent black man. Despite the overwhelming blatant evidence that the black man was innocent, the jury declared him guilty due to the extreme racism that happened throughout the course of the story. The most outstanding person in the trial is Atticus Finch, the defender assigned to defend the black man, Tom Robinson. Atticus’s actions in the trial proved to be intelligent and powerful, and a valuable clue to the outcome of the trial and story.
Dad was continuing to man the helm as we ran our afternoon-start streak to four in a row. Among the nice features of getting on the water early is that conditions are often calmer and more boating-friendly early in the day. As the day progresses winds frequently pick up and the seas grow rougher. This was exactly the case this day as we crossed Lake St Louis in rough seas accompanied by high winds.
The Earth has a long history of volcanic activity. Currently, there are approximately 1,500 active volcanoes worldwide (USGS, 2014). Whether erupting on the Earth’s surface or deep in the ocean, volcanic activity can result in devastating natural disasters. A thorough background regarding volcanoes and their formation mechanisms, historical data, and damaging impact from previous eruptions is needed in order to understand the complicated science behind volcanoes.

Earthquakes and volcanoes go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly or rice and beans. Where there are volcanos there are usually tectonic plates beneath them either pushing against or pulling away from one another. Take for instance the Cascade Mountain Range in Northern California and stretches through Oregon and into Vancouver, British Columbia and sits northeast of the San Andreas Fault line that runs 750 miles through California. This fault creates the tectonic boundary between the Northern America and Pacific Plates. The three types of plate boundaries are convergent, meaning basically they are colliding together, divergent meaning they are pulling away from one another and transform which means that the plates slide past each other. During the convergence process some plates will subduct beneath the other.
One of the most famous volcanoes is Mt. Saint Helens. This volcano is still active to this day. On may 18th, 1980 a huge volcanic eruption happened at Mt Saint Helens. The eruption was the most significant eruption in the contiguous 48 U.S. states. It has often been declared the most disastrous volcanic eruption in U.S. history. The eruption was followed by a 2 month series of earthquakes.

Due to persecution, Paul had to leave Thessalonica abruptly, leaving the young church with many unanswered questions, especially related to the final destiny of some recently-deceased brothers there. Paul then explains eschatological issues related to the final resurrection of the death, and Christ’s return in glory. In 2 Thessalonians Christ’s return is also emphasized, believers are reassured of Christ’s impending return, and Paul indicates that those dead before His return are no “second class” Christians. But 2nd Thessalonians is also addressed to those who think that Christ has already come or those who stopped working due to the immediacy of Christ’s

Both in the novel, The Giver by Lois Lowry, and the poem, "A Perfect Day" by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, themes of Utopia and the changing of ideas of the ideal are presented in many ways. Utopia is generally used to describe an ideal, or perfect place and as shown in The Giver, Sameness in the community is used and maintained as a form of their Utopia. The concept of joy in "A Perfect Day” can also be viewed as perfection with how only someone’s happiness is important and joy is always felt. Utopia tends to last temporarily and has been -and still is- not achievable due to different ideals and beliefs clashing together in the process of creating it. This type of destruction happens to the ideals in both the novel and poem as the story progresses.
We got there right after the sun’s peak time ended, so around 3pm, and my breath was taken away by it’s beauty. The sand is so soft, it feels like a fuzzy blanket on a cold fall day. When I walked on the beach I could faintly smell the of salt. As I would walk into the water, I could feel my skin tighten as the salt water would touch my skin. Then, as I got out of the water, I could taste the salt lingering on my lips.
It was the third day of the winter holidays when Anmol called us up to the jetty, it wasn’t normal to be out on the water at this time of year. The screeching winds tore over the horizon and collided with the small yachts tied in an uneven pattern all around us. The constant noise of clattering was annoying but quite memorising and the salt was already starting to
The adventure began with a cold winter morning in florid, Uncle Bob and I decided to head out to his secret spot, the dive site was roughly 100ft and a Spanish Galleon laid rest. My dad dropped me off at the boat dock where I met up with Uncle Bob. We did a gear check to make sure we had everything to complete our dive. After the gear check, we headed out, after a couple
It is a sunny morning. I am home with my stepfather and brothers. The clouds seem perfectly shaped as they swivel in the sky. The birds whistle a tune no morning has heard and the trees dance as the breeze whips. I am stuck indoors, and I am missing what seems to be the perfect day. My brother is leaving to head to basketball camp. My other brother is heading to work. Today was going to be a day with just my stepdad and me. He prepares breakfast for me, and the smell captivates my senses. I stop staring out the window and head to the bathroom and then to the table to eat. This is the perfect day.
My toes burrowed into the damp sand and I was relieved to realize that the water was warmer than I had expected. As I stood there and breathed in, deeply, the moist salty air, allowing my heart to fill with the vigor of the ocean and releasing the thoughts of the boy from my past with each exhale, a ball hit my feet and a man ran to get it as his friend yelled “you’re welcome!.” Were they trying to get my attention? I thought as I simply walked away avoiding eye contact with the man who collected the ball. I wandered along the water’s border allowing the water to cooly kiss my feet. the water hit my feet. I smiled as I looked at all of the young surfers attempting to catch the two foot waves. I amused myself by pondering what their future would look like and if I was witnessing the start of a surfing legend. I envied their potential, the years they would have to master their art to acquire their dreams, whatever they may be.
