Last year over Thanksgiving break, my family and I went to Austria. I had never been to a European country before, so I was really excited. The day we left started as any other normal day, we woke up at a reasonable time and ate breakfast. We drove to the airport, and everything seemed fine until security had to check my mom which felt like it took forever. Once we finally got through security, we were ready to board the plane, and this plane was so big! The plane ride was nine hours which was so long, but we could watch a lot of movies and eat really good meals while we were on it. As soon as we landed in Austria, I felt like the whole world had changed. People spoke different languages and it was so much colder that it was in South Carolina. …show more content…
We were leaving our hotel on a cold and gloomy morning to go get breakfast. I ran down the stairs to the lobby to get my food because I was super hungry. When I ran into the breakfast room, I was a little disturbed by the weird looking eggs and fruit, but I ate it anyway and we were quickly on our way to the train station We boarded the train, and it was the nicest train I have ever seen. I slept the whole way to Salzburg. Once we got there, it started to snow and I was really excited. My family and I ran to our new hotel, and dressed into our winter clothes very quickly. We walked down to the main center where all of the Christmas markets were, and there was a famous stuffed animal store named Steiff. We walked through the markets for hours because there were so many different and amazing things there. The markets were full of nutcrackers, snow globes, gingerbread cookies, and more. We eventually were worn out, so we started heading back to our hotel. There was a bridge that we had to walk over to get back into the city, and many people had put locks and sparkling lights on it which made it very beautiful. We went to sleep that night, and I was so excited to another day there. My family and I did many other fun thing, such as, Sound of Music Tour, tour big castles, visit the Spanish Riding School, and walk through the Christmas markets every night. I had so much fun on this trip, and I hope I can go again
Thanksgiving Day is a day of family, food, and giving thanks for the blessings in life and yet some people believe Thanksgiving to be a prep day for Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year. The focus of Thanksgiving shifted from family bonding to incessant shopping. This trend of taking away from the hours of Thanksgiving in order to shop is enraging. It steals away from family time for the shoppers and the employees. Employers threaten workers that if they do not work on that certain holiday, they will be fired. Black Friday should be kept to Friday instead of moving in on my family time. The whole culture of Black Friday has become repugnant and unnecessary.

Thanksgiving break a bust,I thought. The fall air swept through as my sister and I kept playing volleyball. My mom came bursting out,she was trying to catch her breath as I questioned,
During fall, the leaves fall, the temperature drops, and people sit around a table and say what they are thankful for. While we are consuming pounds of turkey and stuffing, the Pilgrims are to thank for the annual feast. Because the meaning of this holiday is to not stuff your face with endless amount of carbs, we should be reminded of how grateful we are for what we own. Thanksgiving was a very memorable time in U.S. history.
Thanksgiving is the start to the holiday season. It is also the start to the holiday travel season. Sadly, the travel often aligns with some of the country's worst weather, biggest crowds, stressed out travelers, and high flight prices from airlines hoping to take advantage of needy patrons. While there is not a lot you can do about the weather or crowds, you can avoid being one of those stressed travelers by planning your trip in advance and taking advantage of a few price saving measures.

Thanksgiving is undoubtedly a holiday to celebrate family. It also celebrates many other things, as the name suggests. Thanksgiving is a holiday to give thanks for the things that a person has rather than to wish for more things. Accomplishments and shiny cars are not part of the essence of Thanksgiving, as these do not have the inherent humbleness expected of the holiday. This air of humility and frugality, harkening back to the days of the pilgrims and Native Americans, is probably what lead Ellen Goodman to describe the holiday as a suppressing of individualism. However, the rift between individuality and family that Goodman describes in Thanksgiving is not as deep as she makes it seem, and Thanksgiving Day is hardly the only day of the
The first Thanksgiving happened in 1621 by the Plymouth colonists and Wamponoag Indian. In the first Thanksgiving they only ate Venison,Indian Corn,Fowl, and Barley.Yes turkey was NOT on the menu suprisingly. Also their was no pumpkin pie or potatoes because they weren't introduced yet. They did have cranberries, but they didn't eat them as a sauce. It wasn't until 1789 that George Washington declared Thanksgiving a National Holiday which meant it didn't become a Holiday til the 19th century. It wasn't til the Civil War president Abraham Lincoln made Thanksgiving something to celebrate every

The event selected from NYC.com is, “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade”, which will take place on Thursday, November 25th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This event was chosen because the business sector is doing something nice for the community by giving back where they celebrate Thanksgiving Day with a parade. This event will allow family and friends to have a thanksgiving filled with laughter, happiness and love. What better way to enjoy Thanksgiving Day than with a lively parade.
Holiday dinners are well known for the staple meats like turkeys, hams or roast beefs, I find that abnormally too traditional for my taste. What I love about holiday dinners are the warm gatherings with my family, the sometimes tottering uncertainty of outside guests and enthusiasm for surprise dishes. My favorite holiday dinner has always been Thanksgiving. I have always attended these holiday dinners without a plus one, there would be an awkward exception Thanksgiving of 2004. Thanksgiving of 2004 I thought to myself “Why not bring an extra watering mouth to feed? Thanksgiving is supposed to be about assembly with outsiders. At least that is what the history book pictures displayed.”. So I invited James. I figured drop a few light weighted
Our imperative family tradition was a summer vacation. Completely neglecting any responsibilities for a week, vacations were the perfect excuse. Fostering an environment for bonding, our annual vacations helped in creating lifelong memories. According to a Disney Time Survey conducted by Kelton, 82% of time on vacation is considered family time. This finding is evident, especially in one of my recent vacations. The months preceding and following this specific family trip, were filled with various milestones which prohibited much bonding: my mother’s diagnosis of Lung Cancer, my older sister’s wedding day, and my senior year preparation. If it wasn’t for our last hurrah, we may not have been able to successfully sit the needed amount of time
It was close to four o’clock in the morning and we were tired. We met up with my dad at the airport and grab us a taxi. As we leave, we drive by a desert that was completely surrounded with sand. Passing through we made it into the city, looking at the flashing lights and buildings that stood tall. It was too early to go out and explore, we needed our rest. As we walk into our hotel, it was like walking into an expensive apartment. With its very own kitchen, washer and dryer, and a patio to top it all
