Tennessee Elephant Sanctuary Hero’s come in all shapes and sizes. They do what they do because they love it, not for fame or the fortune. A hero is a person, or an organization, recognized for their qualities. Tennessee Elephant Sanctuary is a 2,700 acre living space for retired circus and refugee elephants. The Sanctuary is determined and selfless to give elephants their best life while raising awareness about the struggles elephants have already gone through. At Tennessee Elephant Sanctuary, the staff is determined to give elephants their best lives. They take in elephants retired from circus shows and other forms of entertainment. When the elephants get there, most suffer from many different illnesses and behavior problems. Some of the
One great quality of heroes is their devotion to help others in need. They see importance in all life, no matter animals or humans. In a poem, “Gracious Goodness” by Marge Piercy and short story, “What Happened During the Ice Storm” by Jim Heynen, the reader can see that a hero is someone who just wants to help others. In “Gracious Goodness” the speaker is depicting of a royal tern on the brink of death, as it was crippled with a hook and the fishing line. The speaker decided to help the royal tern out of the kindness of the speaker’s heart. The sp...
Who is a hero? In contemporary times, usage of the term has become somewhat of a cliché. Over the years, the term “hero” has become representative of a wide variety of individuals, each possessing differing traits. Some of the answers put forth by my colleagues (during our in-class discussion on heroism) as to whom they consider heroes pointed to celebrities, athletes, teachers and family members. Although the occupations differed, each of their heroes bore qualities that my classmates perceived as extraordinary, whether morally or physically. Nonetheless, Webster’s defines “hero” as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” Thus, it is worth considering that individuals become heroes relative to the situation with which they’re faced.
Hero is often a person who is admired or idealized for their outstanding courage and often bravery. In the story “Theseus” by Edith Hamilton, Theseus a young Athenian boy shows his heroic side by overcoming difficult tasks on his journey to save his people from the evil Minotaur. Theseus shows his bravery by entering the Labyrinth with only his hands and a ball of thread determined to kill the Minotaur and save his people. Theseus’ actions and heroic deeds shows that he's an epic hero with the fact that he tends to put others first before himself no matter the difficulty of the task.
Over the course of time, there have been many distinct heroes with significant characteristics. A hero can be viewed and described many different ways depending on the person. They may be courageous, intelligent, kind, tough, or even troublesome. However, the more common ‘hero’ is revered to be physically brave and intellectually smart. Although one may be intellectually smart, that is not truthfully what makes them a hero. A hero is someone who sacrifices themselves for the benefit of others and is courageous and brave.
According to the Oxford dictionary, a hero is a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Terry Fox is a Canadian hero because of his determination, his selfless personality, and the achievements he and his legacy have reached.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary a hero is an individual who is admired for great bravery or fine qualities. To me a hero is so much more than a person who shows great bravery. When I think of a hero many fine qualities come to mind; intelligence, courage, altruism, compassion and great bravery.
what is a hero? A hero doesn't always have to be have to be a special individual saving another hopeful soul from a burning building, or being born as an extraordinary individual who has the powers to save lives. A hero could be anyone whose daily acts go unnoticed, and could never be heard. People spend their days doing these things without any notice the act of heroism. Heros can be anywhere without anyone noticing these simple jobs that they do to help others. Heroes can be blind to the human eye but can be notice by the simple acts of strength and selflessness inside them. Although some hero acts go unheard of, heroes can be selfless people, who take up the courage to fight for things bigger than oneself.
I can be a hero in my community volunteering at animal shelters. Volunteering at animal shelters not only helps the animals, it makes those employed there jobs easier. Working at animal shelters allows the animal shelter to have a higher capacity, thus keeping animals off the streets. This makes neighborhoods prettier and cleaner and improves the lives of hundreds of animals.
Constant confinement causes unnatural behavior and death among animals. The confinement makes it easier for disease to spread among animals and humans such as tuberculosis. Temperature fluctuations are unnatural to animals’ natural environment. In 1997, an eight year old elephant died due to being caged in 120 degrees. Unnatural behavior such as swaying, rocking, head-bobbing, and other repetitive action are signs of psychological distress in elephants. Common behavior like banging h...
A hero is a person who cedes to benefit others. Through many complications that were faced they stood up with the greatest bravery. Welles Crowther is a great example of a hero who sought to help the other people in the World Trade Center during 9/11. Though he could’ve saved himself he tried to save others. Though he lost his life he inspired others to help others in need. Ling Young says,”He said,”I’m going back up again.” Cause he knows that there were a lot of people still up there on the 78th floor that needed help (“The Man in the Red Bandana”). Though he could have saved
Elephants are dated to be around this earth for about six million years ago. Mammoth remains have been found in Europe, Africa, Asia, and North America, today most of elephants around earth are mostly found only around Africa. Mammoths are also believed to have originally evolved in North Africa about 4.8 million years ago, where bones of them have been found in Chad, Libya, and Morocco. I believe that throughout time the mammoth has evolved to not become extinct. In spite the fact that the mammoth is extinct now is said by scientists that it is mostly because of human influence. During the ice age there were many mammals such as giant ground slots and mammoths. All of these animals have long since gone extinct and their existence is known
Attention getter: Lion, tigers, and bears, oh my! When the circus comes rolling into town, many people are excited to go and that is all that is talked about; about the clowns, the trapeze artists, the ring leader, the elephants and all the other marvelous wonders of the circus. But would you all still be excited to go if you knew the truth about the circus and the animal trainers of how they treat the animals? Because in reality, for our spirits to raise at the circus, they break the spirits of all the animals, especially the elephants.

From our loving pets that welcome us home every day, to the birds chirping in the morning, to the exotic animals we admire; animal safety and animal rights is a priority that gathers attention across the world. Being up close and personal with animals is a coveted experience that zoos try to bring to everyday life. While it is breathtaking to see these glorious animals it can possibly bring danger to their lives and call into question someone’s morals. The Denver Zoo claims that they rescue endangered or suffering animals from hostile environments and bring them into a safe, nurturing facility where they cater to the animals’ needs. With the demands of the people it is truly amazing that the Denver Zoo can properly care
Because comfort is an important factor to humans when traveling, they move in spacious cars. Distinctly, because they have no choice but to oblige, animals are transported in small carts, cages, or trucks. The means of transportation not only presents a limitation in space but may also present limitation in food and water. Furthermore, the animals are forced to travel in small enclosures where they must sleep among their waste. Even when the circus arrives at its destination, the animals must remain locked away for fear that they will wander or rebel. Such unsanitary conditions seem unimaginable to us people, but then why are they acceptable for animals? Circuses do not take into account the animals’ necessities because they are merely focused on the amount of money they are obtaining from each of their
