This initial checkup is important for babies and parents alike. Parents learn how to care for their baby’s teeth and babies get a checkup to ensure there are no concerns. Brush & Floss Twice a Day: As soon as your little one’s teeth start coming in, begin brushing those teeth with an infant toothbrush and use fluoridated children’s toothpaste. Do this in the morning and at night before bed. Once your child’s teeth touch on either side, you can begin flossing their teeth. Avoid “Bottle Decay”: Putting your child down with a bottle can lead to decay. The sugars in juices, formula, and even milk can break down your child’s tooth enamel and create unwanted cavities. In addition, you should avoid giving your child fruit juice to drink throughout the day, and limit their use of a sippy cup. Be Mindful About Treats: Sweet desserts are a fun treat for young children, but too much can leave their baby teeth riddled with cavities. Limit the amount of treats your child consumes and monitor the amount of sweets they get from others. Grandparents are notorious for filling their grandkids with chocolate and candies before sending them
The article Poor Teeth was written by Sarah Smarsh with the goal in mind being to shed light on the issue between upper and lower class society in a particularly concrete way. Teeth and dental health are an easy thing for people to imagine in their head because everyone has a set whether they’re white and shiny or black and rotted. This makes it easy to draw a comparison between people that care for their teeth and those who don’t. However, access to dental knowledge and services which the lower class often times doesn’t have is very different between the poor and the rich. While the rich stroll through life showing off their perfect glossy white rows of teeth, there are less privileged people out there with barren mouths whose weak pale gums
To effectively floss your teeth start by taking 12 inches of floss. Slide the floss between your teeth curving around each tooth making a C shape, make 3 scoops on each side of every tooth. Go slightly under the gum line. Repeat this process with the lower teeth, and don’t forget to floss behind your back teeth. This teeth are very important to properly floss since this are the hardest areas to reach with the toothbrush.
There are many opportunities out there for hygienists to deliver the health care message to not only the individuals that cannot afford to go to the dental office, but also the individuals like older citizens and disabled individuals and to different schools around the nation. With that being said, it is not only just the hygienist job to provide that information. Other healthcare professionals are expected to come together and commonly agree on accurate information to specific individuals. “Healthcare professions, including dental hygienists, nurses and physicians should be communicating with each other and working collaboratively for common health care goals. This is the way that we should be practicing and also educating the future” (Pera). It is important to educate children now and get it in their heads that taking care of their teeth and gums and also their body in general is a good way to be successful not just now, but in the future as well. In order to do so, all health care professions are required to step up and come together to inform the young children in schools as well as the underprivileged people who lack the knowledge
Everyone has teeth, and society likes them to be as white as possible. But does everyone know the parts of the tooth? The tooth has four parts: dental pulp, dentin, enamel, and cementumcentenum. Dental pulp is the center part of the tooth and is made of tissue and nerves. Dentin is connected to the dental pulp and is the second hardest part of the tooth. Enamel is the hard, outer layer that surrounds the tooth. Enamel cannot be repaired or replaced. One can only prevent its loss, which is why we brush our teeth so often to help eliminate the plaque and acids that certain sodas and other sugary drinks try so hard to remove. Without enamel, teeth would erode within days of their coming in. And last but not least, cementumcentenum. CementumCentenum covers the root of the tooth and it anchors the root to the skin.
Halitosis is the medical term for Bad Breath. When people think of bad breath they automatically think that food is the cause of the bad odor. When in reality there are many factors that can lead up to bad breath. Yes food is one of them but there are other reasons as to why a person may be experiencing bad breath or teeth staining. A person may experience bad breath or teeth staining because they may have a health problem that is causing the odor other factors are smoking and chewing tobacco.
The first dental visit should occur within six months after the presence of the first tooth or by a child’s first birthday. The first visit to the dentist should be enjoyable. Of course parents should refrain from any negative comments about the dentist around the child. The dentist and staff will explain the procedure that they will receive. It is important that you choose the right dentists who specialize in pediatric dental care.
Another preventive way to help children build stronger teeth is water fluoridation prevents 2/3rd of children from them not getting cavities. (Evans par. 6) Fluoridation benefits children and let alone fifty percent of the dental bills were cut in price. (Evans par.6) The future is looking bright for the children getting better dental and oral health services. Children should be taught how to brush their teeth and be encouraged to have good dental hygiene to prevent cavities and any other dental problems. They should be taught about good hygiene such as hand washing to prevent germs.
Children with disabilities or other health impairments require assistance of adults to live to their fullest potential. Although childhood caries is not a typical disease when considering disabling chronic illnesses, it is becoming a global health crisis that affects children in many ways. According to the United States Surgeon General’s report from the US Department of Health and Human Services (2000), dental caries is stated to be the “most common chronic childhood disease of children aged 5 to 17 years and is five times more common than asthma and seven times more common than hay fever.” Childhood caries can severely affect a child’s quality of life in the areas of overall development, family relationships, community relationships, and educational challenges; the collaboration of parents and teachers is essential in treating and preventing childhood caries, not only in the United States, but also around the world.
Hygienist are the dentists who educate their patients on the importance of oral health care. Hygienist examine any chipped tooth, damage filling, discolored or swollen gums, and also take x-rays, and help prevent tooth decay. Today, dental care focuses on prevention. Preventing tooth decay and related problems is the main job of a dental hygienist. As generations pass, not many people are fully aware of the downside of not properly taking care of their pearly whites. This topic was brought to my attention by noticing the lack of dental hygiene among my peers. This doesn’t necessarily just mean having only cavities, sore gums, but also bad breath.
I decided to do my research report on dentistry because it is a perfect blend of science and art. It is a science in that you must fully comprehend on the different types of diagnostic and procedures you are doing. It is an art in that you are constantly working with your hands to create a beautiful smile. The impact you make on helping a person achieve an impeccable smile is not one to compare with materialistic things like money or cars. People often mistake dentist as only doing practices when in fact they could do more, like research. I was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to interview Dr. Sarah Pham, DDS, a close family friend who practices dentistry in her own private office in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Pham was
The prevention of periodontitis is straightforward for patients. The first step in prevention is to assure that the patient is brushing twice a day utilising the proper brushing technique. Patients who fear the contraction of periodontitis are not encouraged to brush too much however, as excessive brushing with poor technique can lead to other oral problems such as the reduction of the gums (gingival recession). Brushing at least twice a day help inhibit the growth of unwanted bacteria and prevents plaque, and thus tartar from forming. Patients who wish to prevent periodontitis should also floss daily. Flossing daily includes the spaces between each tooth, as well as behind the last two molars on the mandibular and maxillary arches. Flossing should get in below the gum line to prevent bacteria from congregating just below the surface. The last at home, over-the-counter treatment available for the prevention of periodontitis is the use of an antiseptic mouthwash. While proper use of mouthwash in conjunction with the other techniques can help cure gingivitis, once periodontal disease has elapsed stage 1 of periodontal disease, no amount of mouthwash or brushing can restore attachment lost in the periodontium.
Next you will want to teach your toddler about proper hygiene. After your toddler as finished pottying you should teach then to wipe from front to back. This helps prevent any bacteria from entering the private areas, which could lead to health issues such as bacterial infections. Your toddler should also learn how to use proper hand washing skills after they are done using the potty to prevent spreading harmful germs to other individuals. Proper hygiene is an important step of potty training because it can prevent several illness and disease from
Children need to regularly see the dentist, usually every six months, to monitor their dental progress and catch any issues before they can cause pain and infections. Teach children how to properly brush their teeth and not miss areas. They should also receive instruction on how to properly floss their teeth to get the plaque and food out of the spaces and crevices of the teeth where cavities are most likely to form. Adults should be very vigilant about their oral hygiene and brush afer every meal. Brush your teeth before bed and refrain from eating right before bed without brushing. Some foods that contain high levels of sugar or acid can accelerate the process of tooth decay. Avoid these foods, and if you do consume them you should brush your teeth right away. Having your teeth cleaned regularly by a dental hygienist or the dentist is also a great way to remove tartar that can cause tooth decay. Schedule a cleaning at least every six months to keep your teeth clean and
Your child's mouth guard must be cleaned properly after each and every time it is worn. Don't be tempted to just rinse it off with water, because that will not kill all of the cavity- and infection-causing bacteria, yeast, and even mold on it.
