Technology And Technology Essay

1900 Words4 Pages

Technology has shaped America in many ways from developing complex computer systems available to the everyday people to being able to track weather patterns across the world. Without technology, we certainly would not be where we are today as a high tech society. A lot of this technology came from World War II. During World War II, the atomic bomb prevailed making it the most high tech weapon in history. Radar equipment was also produced, as well as medicines to prevent diseases, nutrition research, high horsepower jet engines to power aircraft, and the V-1 and V-2 rockets. Through all of this technology, World War II was known as the first high technology war. The Manhattan Project was set up by the United States as a project to create the first atomic bomb. Scientist Albert Einstein proposed the idea of creating a so called "super bomb" to President Theodore Roosevelt in 1939, because he feared that Germany would create a bomb like this before the United States could, so they wanted to beat them to the punch. This atomic bomb would be extremely powerful. The science of creating an atomic bomb was all over the world. All the countries knew it could happen, they just needed somebody to make it happen. Einstein quoted Franklin Roosevelt, "We are faced with the pre-eminent fact that if civilization is to survive we must cultivate the science of human relationship - the ability of peoples of all kinds to live together and work together in the same world, at peace" (Roosevelt 1945). Einstein responded to this by saying, "We have learned, and paid an awful price to learn, that living and working together can be done in one way only - under law. Unless it prevails, and unless by common struggle we are capable of new ways of thinking, ... ... middle of paper ... ...e V2 rocket. Many modified versions were not only used for warfare, but also for high altitude research. NASA abandoned the idea of the V2 rocket in the early 1950s for space exploration, but without it we certainly would not have some research we have collected today. Though World War II was a terrible, deadly war, a lot of good things came from it. The ideas and innovations from the war have caused us to live in a high technology world today. Without the creations of World War II we might not be where we are as a society. Medicine has further developed as well as our air crafts and jet engines that allow us to further explore and examine outer space and learn more about the world. All of these ideas and innovations certainly prove that World War II was the most high tech war of the time, and a lot of the things that came from the war help us today in some way.
