I was delighted to see the encouraging anticipation initiated by some of you toward your group project. Although I usually wait to discuss group projects until after the midterm, your willingness to push ahead with group work prompts me to engage in an early conversation with you on this subject. Because this week's lab has been cancelled, I hope you can use our regular class time next Wednesday for your group meeting and to get an early start on this project.
I would like to focus on three important elements that should help you to put your group project in perspective and set up attainable goals.
The first element is about the nature of a case study. The greatest strength of the case method is that it provides an opportunity to develop and practice analytical and decision-making skills that will be helpful in difficult situations throughout your career. To be successful in our class project, you will need to prove your ability to reason effectively when dealing with specific problems, as well as to apply OB theories to real world situations.
The case contains background information on the subject organization, including its main activity, its size and locations, and the people involved. The case also holds important clues and information about one or more problems the organization is experiencing. The organization's problem(s) may not be clearly defined, and you can expect the description to be surrounded by non-related issues and noise - just as in life. An adequate diagnosis goes beyond retelling the story or pointing to specific events that might have led to the current problem(s). You will need to identify the underlying causes of the problem(s) in terms of OB concepts, such as communication, motivation, leadership, group dynamics and so on. Your diagnosis will help you recommend solutions that address the roots of the problem(s), as opposed to suggesting mere Band-Aids that will just result in the problem's resurfacing in a different form further down the line. (Imagine if you had a disease and your physician were to treat each of your various symptoms with a different medication instead of identifying the underlying disease that causes the symptoms and prescribing the correct treatment for that.

No one is sure who really pulls the strings, but everyone has an opinion on the matter. Many famous plays center on this topic, and one such play that features characters’ views on fate and free will is Romeo and Juliet. This legendary play, written by William Shakespeare, has been beloved by people for centuries, as they contemplate who is the guiding force in life? The play discusses just this, while depicting the lives of Romeo and Juliet: two desperate teenagers each trapped in their own worlds, seeking love and freedom. The two “star-crossed lovers” are from feuding households, and each has their own distinct problems. Romeo jumps from girl to girl, never finding anyone to reciprocate his feelings until he meets Juliet. She is hidden from the world, and with every decision being made for her, she wants to control her own life, which she does with marrying Romeo. Although fate and free will are both undeniably found in the lives of Juliet and Romeo, it is ultimately fate and the way it manipulates the events, time, and the characters that brings about the untimely death of the two iconic teen lovers.
In the prologue, Shakespeare uses phrases such as “death-marked love” and “star-cross’d lovers” to show that fortune and fate are responsible for the tragedy. Shakespeare also describes Romeo and Juliet’s defiance of their parents as “misadventured piteous overthrows.” This description suggests that the lovers’ efforts to be together will be hopeless against what fate has in store for

Christine should understand that the blend of individual personalities and how people related to one another in groups based on their needs to express and receive feelings of inclusion, control and affection are important to the success of the team. By understanding the needs of her team members, she can build group processes to address those needs. For example, since Mike initially revealed himself as a class clown, she could allow him the opportunity to be creative with his contribution to the project and present part of the case in class to let his humor shine through in a manner that compliments the case. For Steve, she could let him draw up an agenda and project plan. Janet could be the one who researches the materials needed for the project. As a result of understanding the needs of the team members, Christine would be able to draw on the strengths of each team member by building group processes that compliment those strengths and as a result, would support positive and, hopefully, successful workgroup performance.

Before I start making the assignment, I have read the case to get and understanding the big picture or the situation in the case study. After that, I analyse the case first by understanding the content in the case study and think creatively the relation between the case and the topic. Then, I read the case again and actively take notes or underline passages. After that, I discussed with my team to identify the key issues in this case, to know the problem that are related with this case study. After I identify the issues in this case, I and my team member generate possible solutions, think about consequences of various paths of action, and weight the advantages and limitations of solutions.
When working on a group project, there are certain skills that are required to make sure that the tasks are being carried out smoothly. With that in mind, it is critical to keep an open line of communication as well as an understanding of the other individuals in the group. The following scenario is of a group project I was a part of that had a breakdown in the two points expressed above.
In order to evaluate my role within the group, it is important to identify what makes a group. A group must firstly consist of more than three members, “Two members have personal relationships; with three or more there is a change in quality” of the personal relationship. (Bion 1961, p26) The group must have a common purpose or a goal in order to succeed. Having now completed my group work task, I can look back and reflect upon the process that my group went through to get to the presentation end point.
Case studies are a collection of data obtained using various methods gathered on an individual or group to record areas of interest in order to assist with analysis and provide recommendations. The study should include the name of the person, although this should be protected to provide anonymity where appropriate, and a brief description of the subject. The setting where the study is to be performed should be included. The aim of the observation must be presented along with a report of the findings. The type of method used will depend upon the subject and the area of interest. Data is gathered on the subject in this case observations were used to provide the data. An interpretation of the study will be made in order to provide a conclusion and recommendations made if applicable. Freud famously used the case studies that he carried out on his patients to develop his Psychoanalytic Theory.
“Careful though and planning are necessary” for the formation of any group, hence it is necessary to develop a group proposal prior to starting a group (Corey, Corey, & Corey, 2010, p. 107). A group begins with an idea that a facilitator executes. According to Peled, & Perel, (2012) “As early as when formulating the basic assumptions behind the goals, content and structure of the group intervention programs, we became aware of the challenge of striking the right balance between content delivery and facilitation of a group process.” In other words, group proposals help to orient you, hence having an outline of the group helps you have a successful group process. A group leader needs to know the proper steps to focus the group and have procedures to employ to be able to help group members reach their goals. There are five elements that can help form a group proposal: rationale for the group, objectives for the group, practical considerations, procedures, and evaluations (Corey, Corey, & Corey, 2010,p. 111-112). Certain task can only be performed by combined effort of a group. Organisation can use groups to carry out projects, which will help to achieve its overall aim. In my experience and in this small group project I would be one of the more vocal people. By avoiding intimidating or shutting anyone out, it is important to have each person brain write to avoid any hesitation from others. In my current small group, we partake in electronic brainstorming. Each of us sat down at a computer and found articles that we thought was best fit to the solutions to the problem. After finding our articles we then posted them to google docs where we are now in the process of evaluating them. This makes it easier for everyone to find articles that connects to them. When we tired of thinking of new ideas we take a brake and talk about each other’s lives. I like to as all my groups what we plan on doing over the weekend and we also do it in our class when (Dr. Davis) asks us how our weekend was or even what is happening this weekend, giving us a break from thinking about school related items so we can start fresh. Brainstorming is important to do and is the best way to come up with the best
