Along with the training, the faculty has to consider if a class can be converted and taught online, and how to make that change. Some classes are easier than others to convert while some are virtually impossible to convert to an online format. SCC has a very successful nursing program, so successful in fact that a new building is currently under construction that will be dedicated solely for nursing classes. While a few of these courses could be taught online, the vast majority of them require face to face and hands on training. Students can have issues with adapting to online classes as well. It can begin with trying to find grants, scholarships, and financial aid to attend school. Many scholarships are funded by local businesses and groups, …show more content…
With traditional face to face courses, course sections are defined based not only on instructional availability but also student schedule necessity. As students and faculty cannot be in two classes at once many sections of the same class must be offered to accommodate the many scheduling conflicts, even though class sizes may be small. With online courses, primarily due to their flexible time schedules, class sections can be made based only on enrollment numbers and faculty class load. This consolidation can allow institutions to keep costs low, and possibly offer a more diverse catalog of courses. Hybrid courses are an added benefit of colleges going online. Usually, the same tools that are used to teach online classes can be used to enhance the face to face courses as well. These hybrid courses can allow students to meet in class fewer times per week, have more ways to access materials, and stay connected to other students and faculty even when off-site. Hybrid courses are a good option for people who need some flexibility but are otherwise not suited to online …show more content…
Recorded video lectures are one aspect of online classes that give them an almost face to face feel. I can see the instructor, watch their presentations and learn from the value added content that they provide in class. The way in which online classes are organized can also be a huge plus for me. I can see what will be coming up and allow me to set my schedule accordingly. By far my favorite aspect has been the open time frame that some professors provide. I prefer to work ahead, so if I have to work overtime with little notice I am not behind in my class work. While some of my professors haven’t allowed this, the majority have when I asked. There are a few things I would like to see added. Optional chat sessions with instructors for difficult classes would be fantastic. Having a near real-time dialog would be more beneficial than the current discussion board model, where an answer may not come for hours or days. Course syllabus postings on the scheduling website, so I can see what a class will entail prior to signing up for it. Finally, a little more reliability of when a given course is offered. Sometimes when a particular course is needed, it can be frustrating to not have it offered for multiple
Aid is given through loans, grants, or scholarships. Students can apply for both Federal and State Financial Aid programs.
The past two decades have seen an almost exponential rise in the availability and popularity of online college classes and degree programs. Their pervasiveness begs the question as to the difference in a credit or degree earned in an online setting versus that of the traditional classroom. These two educational delivery systems will be compared from the perspectives of flexibility, the student experience, the impact of technology, and the issue of acceptability of online classes and degree programs.
There are likely going to be struggles when it comes to online school programs. There may be technical problems that might pop up at the beginning of a course or challenges related to a professor who doesn’t have a readily available office or office hours. This may stress some students
...nditions. Students taking online classes might find it easier to attend family gatherings, traveling, and attended to personal needs. An online class allows the students to work on their own time, to whereas the traditional classes they have to stick with a schedule.
A student out on their own can be scary experience, therefore, having some type of stability to rely on is helpful, it is also good to have a little extra money for other expenses as well, and thanks to hybrid courses that is possible for students the cost of having a seated course is daunting, due to the stress of having to find money to pay for the expensive textbooks, but with the creation of hybrid classes, some courses offer e-books, which are electronic books that require little or no money. The burden of transportation from class each day is fixed with hybrid courses as most classes only meet once, maybe twice a week, and then the rest of the classwork is online. The student would save gas by not having to commute to class more often than they would for a seated course. The tension of having transportation and the cost of books can be unloaded with an online-assisted course. Additionally, with the strain that seated courses add to personal relationships as it takes one away from home and
One big questions standing in front of every student, who is just starting his education is funding. One great opportunity for funding your education is to receive grant by applying for it. To apply for a grant you don`t need to have any academic success, because grants are not based on that, unlike the educational scholarships. More likely educational grants are based on your social status. There are different types of educational grants such as state sponsored grants, college grants, career specific grants, grants by degree level, student specific grants and unique grants.
As every college student knows, the process of registering for class is daunting. State University students can especially relate at this time of year, the peak time for registering for spring classes. Finding classes that fit in between clubs, organizations, work schedules, family commitments, and other classes seems like an impossible task. Many students on college campuses across the nation are turning to online classes, a flexible alternative that allows students to juggle their busy schedules while keeping on track for graduation. On paper, the idea of substituting time consuming traditional classes for the more flexible alternative of online classes sounds decent. However, do students really get the same education out of these online classes as their traditional counterparts? How can a class formatted for online consumption possibly give students all the material they have to learn in a way that is meaningful and easy to understand? The unfortunate truth is that these online classes cannot replace traditional physical classrooms. The benefit of online classes’ flexibility is greatly outweighed by their high cost: the loss meaningful learning. Traditional classrooms are better sources of communication and knowledge that allow students to really absorb the material.
Online courses did not become available until the internet became popular. As technology has advanced there are a number of things that allow online courses to compete with campus courses. As technology has advanced I see inconsistency in what a student is to expect when taking an online course. This paper will explore the increasing popularity of online higher education and ideas for improving it.
I don't think online school is superior to a real classroom, because it is time consuming and tedious. No one wants to sit in the same seat for four to five hours at a time, daily. It's a lot easier to learn from a teacher that you can ask questions, and that will teach you in a way that's effective for you. Another issue found commonly is the cost of having a computer, internet, and paying to take the class. Time consumption is a major issue.
A lot of different courses are offered over the internet. Some of these may be the right choice for certain students. One problem I see with this is that when the student has a question or does not understand something, they would have to research it instead of having a person to person interaction with the teacher. Also the teacher may sometimes offer examples that come from personal experiences. Computers cannot take the place of a human being.
A hybrid study program works well in the modern world of today 's technology. Younger students are already familiar with digital technology, so they feel at home in a virtual classroom. Still, some face-to-face contact with
... classroom instructions are more effective than online learning. Online interaction can be used as a supplementary tool to enhance learning, especially for students who tend to be reserved in the classroom setting. In developing online courses, we should realize that some courses may be more challenging to students who persist in the online environment. Course developers of such courses need to carefully analyse what are the specific subjects that may hinder persistence and supplement instruction with face-to-face consulting, advising, or tutoring. Although an online class offers a comparably effective learning alternative, we should recognize that online learning has its unique advantages and disadvantages.
Students have the opportunity to comprehend new technologies by using adaptive learning technologies. Teachers are better able to help their students reach their maximum potential. When students do meet in a classroom, their time is often of a higher quality than those in a traditional program, but students still receive the classroom time they wouldn 't in a regular online program. Students still receive regular face-to-face time with professors they might not in a traditional
If given the option, would most children talk to friends face to face or through a phone? What about with their teachers, face to face or through a phone? Online schooling is a program where students stay home and learn studies through a computer. To contact a teacher students can often call, email and sometimes text. This newer way of learning is bad for students because they miss seeing friends, and often, computers mess up grades.
Those who disagree with me think that online learning allows a student to learn at their own pace. Students are able to take the time to understand and figure out problems with the resources that are provided. The convenience of learning in an environment that is conducive to that particular students learning is provided by the student. If the student feels comfortable they are more apt
