Paapmochni Ekadashi falls on the 11th day of fading phase of moon in Chaitra month, according to north Indian Hindu calendar. This Ekadashi is the last one in all 24 Ekadashi fasts. As per South Indian calendar, it is marked on the Krishna Paksha of Phalguna month whereas it is celebrated on Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month according to the North Indian calendar. Interestingly this Ekadashi falls on the same day in both north and south Indian calendars. The Paapmochni Ekadashi will fall on 27th of March in 2014.
The word Paapmochni is made with two words Paap and Mochni. “Paap” means sin or misdeed and word “Mochni” means remover. Devotees believe that observing fast on Papamochini Ekadasi is highly auspicious. Those who observe this fast would be forgiven from their sins. Lord Vishnu is mainly worshipped on Ekadashi Fasts.
Method:
The method of observing Paapmochni Ekadashi fast is same as other Ekadashi fasts and it is clearly described in ‘Harivasara’.
The proper method and strictness of Ekadasi fast is difficult to follow in modern times. Devotees observe a full day fast on Ekadashi day. They pray to Lord Vishnu, chant mantras and Krishna songs. In various temples special gatherings are organized where lectures are held on Bhagwat Gita .It is believed that chanting and fasting together forms a protection layer around devotee’s body.
Ekadashi Parana (Parana means ending the Fast) is done next day on Dwadashi morning.
The Paapmochni Ekadasi vrat katha:
This tale is narrated in the Bhavishya Uttara Purana in the form of dialogues between Lord Krishna and king Yudhishtira.
There was a sage named Medhavi who was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. This sage used to perform deep Tapas (meditation) in the forest of Chaitraratha. This forest was full of beautiful and scented flowers. The Chaitraratha forest was also frequently visited by Indra and Apsaras. Beautiful Apsaras tried many times but could never succeed in seducing young Medhavi. One famous Apsara, “Manjughosa”, also tried many ways to seduce this sage but she could not come closer to him due to the power of his sobriety that he had attained over the years.
After many attempts Manjughosa decided to pitch a tent couple of miles away from the sage and started singing. She sang so beautifully that even the Kamdev (Cupid) got excited and decided to use Manjughosha to target Medhavi. But when Manjughosha looked at powerful and attractive body of the sage, she herself got restless by lust .
The beautiful courtesan, Kamala, taught Siddhartha the importance of love along with the pleasures of it. While in the town of Samsara, he was introduced to a life of luxuries by her. She taught him how to please a woman and how to keep her satisfied. He also learned how to gamble and the art of running a business from her friends. Although Siddhartha felt moments of joy, nothing fulfilled the longing in his soul. Over the years, one of the more important lessons he gained from Kamala was that he could have this life of pleasurable things and yet still yearn for a deeper meaning in his heart.
story from ancient literature-it is an allusion of the well-known story of Cain and Abel in the Bible.
...anate seed. Her white neck and a glimpse of her full, firm bosom disturbed him powerfully" (667). This passion leads to physical touching, congering up past passionate feelings towards one another, ultimately leading to their intercourse.
Love and affection is an indispensable part of human life. In different culture love may appear differently. In the poem “My god my lotus” lovers responded to each other differently than in the poem “Fishhawk”. Likewise, the presentation of female sexuality, gender disparity and presentation of love were shown inversely in these two poems. Some may argue that love in the past was not as same as love in present. However, we can still find some lovers who are staying with their partners just to maintain the relationship. We may also find some lovers having relationship only because of self-interest. However, a love relationship should always be out of self-interest and must be based on mutual interest. A love usually obtains its perfectness when it develops from both partners equally and with same affection.
It could be very calm and nonchalant. But on the other hand it could be a furious current, where one cannot wade. This was the state in which Siddhartha’s life was in when he met Kamala and Kamaswami. Siddhartha decided to leave the Samanas because they too lacked what he need to reach his own form of spiritual bliss. He embarked on another adventure and ended up in a town where he knew nobody, had nothing, and didn’t now hat to do. However, the first thing he sees is a beautiful maiden b the name of Kamala, and he instantly fell in love, although Siddhartha was ignorant to the feeling of love and everything that came with it. “She drew him to her with her eyes… knowledge and learning which unfolded itself before his eyes.”(57) Siddhartha’s naiveté is very predominant even though he learned so much from his father, the Samana’s, and even the Buddha himself. But these were not comparable to the arts which Kamala could teach him; those of love, passion, and women. This is the beginning of his disregard of the knowledge he obtained from the Samana’s begins. He begins to obsess with earthly possessions, the exact opposite of what he lived during the three years he was an ascetic. Kamala introduced him to this world, but it is Kamaswami who really helps Siddhartha delve deeper into the world of business and riches. Kamaswami is the richest merchant of the village and Siddhartha seeks his help so he could

...herefore found pleasure and contentment within each other because of the pain that they both shared. Therefore this proves that in a country such as India, where social status and prosperity are crucial, it is evident that love takes preference over all, despite the norms of India, love will always be a priority. Therefore we see that not only did Ammu and Velutha break the ‘Love Laws’ , but so did Estha and Rahel break the ‘Love Laws’ when sleeping with each other.
