Recently the world is facing a new crisis: the creativity extinction. Ever since the population boom and breakneck competition, people began to set up the new criteria for the survival from the world. Until the 20th century, people primarily focused on improving economic efficiency and maximizing machine productivity under rigidity; however, as soon as the goals were achieved through technology development, people turned their eyes to rediscover the creativity buried deep inside their minds. Since the emergence of humans on Earth, people have exerted their innovations for the survival from the wild (Source F). They invented tools for hunting, wove clothes out of plants, and built shelters out of raw materials. Most importantly, they planted seeds to produce crops for excessive cultivation. Since then, the series of innovative revolution that changed the human history began: agricultural revolution, industrial revolution, and civil revolution. Creativity is the one and only inexhaustible source on Earth. People have been, and are free to express their ideas about any subjects in anytime, at anywhere; nevertheless, in today’s world, people are losing their abilities to be creative. In his 1968 research on 1,600 children for their ability to think in “out-of-the-box ways”, education expert Sir Ken Robinson presented that the number of achievers in positive scores decreased as the children grew up into adults (Source …show more content…
It has not been long since people have regarded eccentricity as difference, not as wrongness. The blacks were segregated due to race, and the Jews were isolated due to religion. Moreover, people who were bold enough to project their voices were discriminated by the society. Although creativeness has been beneficial enough to ignite the dormant spirits of humans, the uncontrolled greed has led people to abandon the creativeness for rigidity that would produce the lucrative markets. While the government enforces the laws for companies to maximize their profits with minimized efforts, workers labor like robots at their jobs (Source B). Because our society is limiting people from enjoying freedom for innovations, inventiveness is being disappeared from the world. Unless the giant loop of confinement is completely removed, creativity would be continuously endangered.
Innovation is resulted out from personal time, space, and silence (Source C). Isolation enables children to maximize their interests and imaginations. While an excessive isolation can be parent’s neglect of their children, a regulated isolation can adequately develop children’s abilities to think and solve problems. Although these stereotypes are unavoidable, an individual can be liberated, empowered and ultimately overcome these stereotypes by obtaining an advanced education.
Television has affected every aspect of life in society, radically changing the way individuals live and interact with the world. However, change is not always for the better, especially the influence of television on political campaigns towards presidency. Since the 1960s, presidential elections in the United States were greatly impacted by television, yet the impact has not been positive. Television allowed the public to have more access to information and gained reassurance to which candidate they chose to vote for. However, the media failed to recognize the importance of elections. Candidates became image based rather than issue based using a “celebrity system” to concern the public with subjects regarding debates (Hart and Trice). Due to “hyperfamiliarity” television turned numerous people away from being interested in debates between candidates (Hart and Trice). Although television had the ability to reach a greater number of people than it did before the Nixon/Kennedy debate, it shortened the attention span of the public, which made the overall process of elections unfair, due to the emphasis on image rather than issue.

It may seem like nothing is being done; new technology is being introduced to younger and younger children every day, people are becoming more ignorant and lazy in their ways, and nothing is being done to change schools. So, what can be fixed? According to Bronson and Merryman from Newsweek, the idea that creativity can only be fostered in an art or music class needs to be forgotten, and schools need to begin encouraging and nurturing the entire creative process in homerooms, math, and science classes. This will help children not jump straight to an answer, but rather fully explore any possibilities. This will benefit our declining creative society, leading to the want for individual learning and creative exploration (Bronson and Merryman).
At the turn of the century, and more recently, problem solving took first place along with creative thinking (Gruber, 2011). This essay will prove that the current education system tends to eventually pull children away from creativity. It will demonstrate how there is a greater amount of creativity in younger children as opposed to older children. This will be shown through the theories of Howard Gardner and Jean Piaget. In order to prove that education has moved away from a creative focus, this essay will examine the three phases of creativity, multiple intelligences and the U-shaped curve by Gardner, as well as Piaget’s constructivist theory and beliefs on retrogression, which is the idea of growing to show how we eventually pull away from visual art (Nolley, 2010).
Without creativity, the world is boring, we are all meant to share our talents and unique gifts with the world but conformity is what stops everyone from doing so. It also terminates any sense of innovation or need for change because when one follows the majority, they are accepting their ways and habits and refusing any yearn for change in order to avoid conflict. It is more important to live honestly and with integrity even if it creates a dispute because it is the only way to grow and develop as a human. It is so easy to succumb to the pressures of conformity and live comfortably without any fear of rejection. Creativity is the essence of technology we have today, without technology we would be without the most basic of equipment in our modern day lives. Could you imagine a life without cars, computers, and even houses? What would the world be like if it were deprived of these necessities? At the heart of this transformation there has to be a radically different view of human intelligence and of creativity” (Robinson K., 2011, p. 14). Using creativity and technology will allow the students to enjoy learning more. I noticed in my final project, that other students who weren’t education majors, saw this problem too. Many of them did not see creativity in a classroom, they felt that the school system was creating them into robots that taught them all how to think a certain way. Ken Robinson feels that, “we don’t grow into creativity; we grow out of it. Often we are educated out of it.” (2011, p. 49).
