The Lorax is the story of a boy who's looking for answers. Living in a ruined town, with the intentions of impressing his current infatuation, the young lad seeks the help of the Once-Ler. The Once-Ler begins his narrations of finding the Truffula forest, which the marshmallow consuming, tent hogging bears, birds and fishes inhabited. He decides to cut down one of the trees for his invention, the Thneed. He believed his invention was an essential product to consumers for the rare leaves of the trees known as tuft, were soft as clouds, durable as titanium, and absorbent as sponges. The thneed provided many possible uses: a scarf, a sweater, or even a parachute. The thneed became the only product, everybody “needed.” However, by cutting down …show more content…
Due to his promise to not chop down any more Truffula trees, the process of harvesting tuft became tedious. And under the pressure of his mother, the Once-Ler allowed his family to cut down the trees to make production faster, resulting in the invention of the Super-Axe-Hacker. The axe-slinging machine that could take out four Truffula trees with one whack brought a dramatic change to the environment. The carbon levels in the area increased rapidly, for less organic carbon were being produced due to the reduction of trees. The Once-Ler’s industry also contributed to the increase of carbon dioxide being emitted in the atmosphere. The carbon cycle became imbalanced since consumers continued to breathe in oxygen and create CO2 through the metabolic processes of respiration. The greenhouse gas could not be countered efficiently enough by photosynthesis—the conversion of inorganic carbon back to organic carbon—due to the lack of Truffula …show more content…
All of the animals left and the Lorax picked himself up and rose away, leaving a rock with the word "unless" engraved on it. Throughout the years since the Lorax left, the Once-Ler only came to realize that, “unless someone cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” If nobody cared about the well-being of our planet, what change will there be? It’s been countlessly proven that one person can make a difference, but if none choose to care about the complications of this world, nothing will ever be resolved. It starts with us. We need to consciously change our lifestyle to help better the planet. We could begin by recycling, investing our money on energy efficient appliances and technologies, reducing our dependence on foreign oil, and if you could, buying a hybrid vehicle to lessen carbon emission in the
The Lorax has a very pessimistic view on how we humans are using the environment or our needs. Something he said was that cutting down the trees leaves nothing for the environment; meaning that trees are a big part of the environment and if we cut them down it’ll be very unhealthy. Another thing the Lorax had to say is about how unhealthy for the environment it is to cut down the trees for our benefit, and that we care
He and Audrey plant the seed in the middle of Thneedville. Truffula Trees start to grow again and the Lorax returns to speak to the Once-ler. The Lorax is a great, cautionary tale. According to Puig, “Anyone older than 10 can discern that herein lies a parable of green vs. greed. All ages are likely to find the cautionary tale entertaining as well as illuminating.
In addition to lowering greenhouse gas levels and using cleaner energy sources, there are things we can do as people to stop climate change. We could reduce our use of electricity at our homes by turning off the lights when we leave the room, turning down/up the heating/ac when it is unnecessary, and using less water. Also, we could install solar panels in our homes and donate money to environmental protection agencies. Hopefully, the people of our world will soon realize climate change is a pressing issue that must be solved as soon as
The Industrial Revolution was not only a turning point in the progress of human history, but the start of a great change in the Earth’s environment. Technological advances in industry and mass migration into urban areas led to a rising demand for energy sources, a demand met by fossil fuels. Casper, J. (2010) describes coal as ‘symbolic of the beginning of the Industrial Revolution’, the increased combustion of these ‘dirty’ fossil fuels further polluted the air and enhanced the volume of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. Changes in land use attributed to population rise, reduced the amount of photosynthesising biomass on Earth, diminished an important ‘carbon sink’ and concluded to enhance the Greenhouse Effect.
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.” (Seuss 1 pg. 58) In our world today, the environment is not taken care of properly. Most anyone can look outside, or look in a stream, and finds garbage or pollution littering the landscape. Dr. Seuss knew and despised this fact. For this reason, he wrote a children’s book titled “The Lorax.”
In the end, the greatest way to help is by spreading awareness. Help spread the word by telling everyone you know about the greenhouse effect and global warming. By making them see what is at stake, and ask them to help save our planet. Encourage others to conserve and share information about recycling and energy conservation with your co-workers, friends, neighbors, and family. Recapping what can be done we all should get out there and plant some trees and plants so we can help the greenhouse gasses to decrease. Reduce the emissions from household products by turning them off. Most importantly remember to spread the word and the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!
The story of “The Lorax” begins with a man, known as the Once-ler, discovering a forest with vasts amount of truffula trees. The Once-ler represents the meaning that once a resource is used, it cannot be used again, just once. The Once-ler knows that he can make much profit and economy through the use of the truffula tree cloth found on it. With this knowledge he sets up his business and begins to cut down truffula trees to make “thneeds”. Thneeds are symbolic to the necessities of man with their wanting of resources in the real world. When the Once-ler starts cutting down trees, the Lorax, symbolic to an environmentalist in the real world, comes out of one of the trunks of a chopped truffula tree and approaches the Once-ler. The Lorax states that he “speaks for the trees”, meaning that he is the one representing nature to the Once-ler. The Lorax tells the Once-ler that he should not be cutting
With every passing year, human beings are emitting more and greenhouse gases than the previous year. The world right now is at a stage where there is no time to look back and wait for things to happen on its own. We should try everything possible to reduce greenhouse gas emissions so that enough opportunities are made available for future generation and there is scope for sustainable development by proper utilization and not by exploitation. The poorest of all should have hope for a better future.
A boy lives in a very polluted area where he visits a man who is isolated. There is a street which is sought to be the "lifted Lorax". The boy is very curious about this and pays the older, isolated man in knick-knacks to hear the legend of the Lorax and how the Lorax was lifted away. The guy, named the "Once-ler" tells the boy the story. He says that there was once a beautiful valley with a forest of Truffla trees and many animals.
Prevent dangerous climate change by phasing out fossil fuels (oil, coal, gas) and replacing them with clean renewable energy such as solar.
People can also reduce the use of fossil fuels by doing simple things for instance switching off lights and appliances when leaving the room. Walking or cycling instead of driving a car or use public transport for maybe longer journeys. Little things like this will make a big difference, making our planet a better place.
In this section, he explained how the technology catalysis the process of deforestation and urban displacement of nature. Today heavy industrial demand for wood are all factors that contributed to the urban displacement of nature.
Humans and animals breathe out Carbon Dioxide, often referred to as the greenhouse gas, as a waste product. Plants take in this CO2 and use it to make food. This is called photosynthesis. During this process oxygen is released which is then breathed in by humans and animals. This procedure is repeated over and over and a natural balance is obtained. However this natural balance is disrupted by human activity. People of the world are putting more than 5.5 billion tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. 75% of this is caused from the burning of fossil fuels. These fuels are burnt all the time to run factories, power plants and vehicles. The main sources of CO2 emissions are electric utilities, residential buildings, industry and transportation. The other 25% is induced by the destruction of the world's forests. The reason for this is that there are less trees and plants to take in the CO2 but there is just as many, if not more, humans and animals to breathe it out.
There are many things we need to change in society to become sustainable for future generations. One thing is for certain, we all need to do our part to contribute to this effort, and there is no time like the present to change our ways.
According to the internet human behavior has a very big affect on the environment. Environmental settings such as air pollution, oceans, energy, or noise are all sources that can negatively impact the environmental quality and conditions. Our daily routines have a huge impact on the environment and we do not realize it. New laws that are passing and educating people will help a lot. People are being educated on how to use less water, use our cars less, how to use less energy, and even taking reusable bags when going grocery shopping because plastic bags are very bad for the environment. There are simple solutions that can help in getting started with these efforts. Every little step and effort we make in our daily routines count.
