Sylvia Earle once said “ every time I slip into the ocean, it’s like going home.” It is clear that Sylvia’s life was amazing. The negative attitude and bitterness makes Sylvia unreliable, she is prejudice against Miss Moore because she prevents Sylvia and the other children from having fun, which seems to be the only thing that matters to Sylvia. Sylvia states, “I’m really hating this nappy-head bitch and her goddamn college degree. I’d much rather go to the pool or to the show where it’s cool” (Bambara, 209). Sylvia is still young and naïve, so she doesn’t view getting an education as something she wants to do, she just wants to have fun and not learn anything but she eventually realizes that Miss Moore just wants her and the other children to

...hrough." Sylvia is very used to being the leader of the group, the toughest girl, and being able to constantly defend herself, compared to inferior, embarrassed, and unprotected by her often strong words. Although Sylvia realizes Miss Moore’s lesson, I believe that her quick judgment, stubbornness, and anger shown throughout the story will hold her back from using Miss Moore’s lesson to her advantage. Then again, her anger especially, may provoke her to want to overcome her setbacks. I think the ending is vague and left wide open for one to speculate exactly what choice Sylvia will make. According to my observations, Sylvia’s negative attitude outweighs her chance for success.

In 1939, Elizabeth and her mother, Sara, left Hampstead and went to Los Angeles. Her father later joined them. Sara Warmbrodt, also known as Sara Sothern, was an actress on stage. So naturally, Liz was groomed to be an actress as well (Boman). A family friend suggested that Liz be taken for a screen test because of her striking beauty. She caught the eye of executives at Universal Pictures, and they signed her in 1941, but she was dropped after the first film. A year later, Elizabeth again captured the attention of another studio, and she was signed by MGM for a full year. By the age of twelve, Liz had become a leading child star (Jackson). When Liz was fourteen, she published a book titled Nibbles and Me. It was about her adventurous experiences with her pet chipmunk, Nibbles, whom she said she found on the set of one of her films. In 1947, Elizabeth appeared solo on the cover of Life magazine. On January 6th, 1950, Liz received her high school diploma from University High School in Los Angeles after she had attended school on the MGM lot. By the time Elizabeth was eighteen, she had a lot of a...

Pursuing down the path of obtaining this career goal, I majored in marine biology and minored in environmental studies at the University of San Diego. My undergrad studies, as well as being able to perform scientific research within the surrounding area, allowed me to gain an immense amount of knowledge about the environment that these organisms inhabit and how vital it is that we continue to preserve and protect it.
If you are interested in becoming a marine biologist “you should be concentrated in math and science”(Wonders). Those are the main subjects of the career although you need to be informed in the other subjects.’A marine biologist also need to be clever and creative so that he can dream up experiments to answer his questions” (Szulgit). A marine biologist need to think more then most of the other careers taken by people. “If you are interested in dolphins or other marine mammals, research programs do exist at several universities”(Marine Biologist). This is a big opportunity to the marine biologist people because it increase the number of
