My decision for the final project is the play Sweat by Lynn Nottage. This play is my favorite play out of the three that the class addressed. Sweat, in my opinion, had the most realistic and contemporary feel compared to Bus Stop and A Doll's House. The process for creating my poster did not take long; in fact, it only took four days. For my poster, I utilized a free, graphic-design website. Canva is a website that I've had former experience with and it is very comparable to Photoshop. "The 21st century America, undone," tagline summarizes the plot of Sweat ideally. This play took place from 2000 to 2008, the first eight years of the 21st century. Change. Racism. Social Class. Self-Worth. And Addiction," is the theme that I selected for the play. Forgiveness is displayed when characters forgive each other near the end of the play. Change is the centralized theme, shown throughout the 8-year time frame and as soon as the characters lose their jobs. Each character has to adapt to changes in Sweat. Racism is a big component in Sweat, revealing itself within the first 3 pages, featuring racial slurs all throughout the play. Racial resentment only sneaks into communities as soon as "the going gets tough." Social class/social status is presented, particularly in how the characters' circumstances and relationships are generated based on education, job position, and social-economic class. Self-worth is granted when Cynthia receives a managerial role and takes it, knowing that she deserves that higher title. Most of the characters suffer from addiction amongst the play. The addiction, being drugs and alcohol, was an aide for most of the characters. To display each word clearly, I chose the font, Lora. Supplementing periods with each word gave them singularity. The most prominent element on my poster is the title's font. Architects daughter is utilized to attract the viewer's attention. The theme of this play is centered around time; the value of the little time we have been given and how that time should be used to live for what is right and what truly matters.
But I think this book is more for those people who aren’t that aware of social class, or for the ones who feel that we live in a society that is classless, rather than the actual people who have realized the consequences that class really has on someone’s life. Many people can relate to what stories are told in the book; if not, they know of a person that can relate to these stories. As a person that grew up in the lower class, I can definitely relate to most of the stories told in this book. From experience, there is a big difference in this country between the rich, middle class, and the poorest that we see daily. Even those in the so-called working class have to make continuous sacrifices and live very differently from those positioned firmly in the middle class.

Themes are the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a literary work. The story “Battle Royal” by Ralph Ellison displays a few specific themes through the story which are easy to depict. A few themes from this story are, first racism and finding his self identity, then the danger of fighting stereotype with stereotype, and last blindness. These themes play an important role in the story to better help the reader understand it.
In our society today social class effects us in our everyday lives. Social class may effect how people treat you and what friends you make. Social class played a big role in the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston. The Gift of Sweat” by Rebecca Brown, tells the story of a man with a mysterious disease. The story is told from what we presume is one of the man’s friends. We read about her routine with Rick, the man that is ill, and his happenings. This story is intriguing because it is very poignant and mysterious. This makes us wonder about this character's lives and why the outcome of the story is what it ended up to be.. What makes this story so pleasurable is the writing style. The way the author made us predict what Rick’s illness was, made the story that much more interesting. The way Brown played with context clues made the readers interested, it made the readers want more and figure out more about the characters, and the story itself.
The theme of Our Town is that people do not truly appreciate the little things in daily life. This theme is displayed throughout the entire play. It starts in the beginning with everybody just going through their daily life, occasionally just brushing stuff off or entirely not doing or appreciating most things. But as you progress through the story, you begin to notice and squander on the thought that the people in the play do not care enough about what is truly important. By the end of this play you realize that almost everybody does not care enough for the little things as they should, instead they only worry about the future, incessantly worrying about things to come.

The theme of the play has to do with the way that life is an endless cycle. You're born, you have some happy times, you have some bad times, and then you die. As the years pass by, everything seems to change. But all in all there is little change. The sun always rises in the early morning, and sets in the evening. The seasons always rotate like they always have. The birds are always chirping. And there is always somebody that has life a little bit worse than your own.
The reader must also recognize what social class the author is in and how that could possible affect the authors portrayal of characters.
Social Class starts off in the book when Claudia describes her house and current living situation. “Our house is old, cold, and green. At night a kerosene lamp lights one large room. The others are braced in darkness, peopled by roaches and mice.”(10). Another example of Claudia’s lower status is when her mother gets upset when Pecola drinks all the milk. Claudia’s family can not afford to go through milk like that without losing a lot of money. Claudia’s mother says “Time for me to get out of the giving line and get in the getting line.”(24).Social class is also stated in the book early when Claudia talks about being “put out” and being “put outdoors”. This shows the difference between poverty and homelessness.“There is a difference between being put out and being put outdoors. Social class, as defined by the film, is something that affects who you are as a person. In the film, the people saw class as the defining factor of a person. They saw class as a barrier between people. If one person is in a different class than another person, then obviously, they are not supposed to associate. They allowed their social class to dictate their action each day. It was amazing to me just how much the people in the film allowed their class to truly define them and really serve as a boundary in their life. The people in the film lived their daily life with their social class as the most influential factor. Their worth and value as individuals was not determined by anything else except the amount of money they had. It was really interesting to see how the amount of money a person had somehow equated with their worth in society. The same is true within our society today, but in the film, this aspect was especially evident. The film really shed a light on just how impactful social class is and just how much we allow it to
Social class is an underlying factor to which all characters run their lives. It is always a priority and influenced most, if not every part of their lives. Most of the characters in the novel respect the rules of class and are always trying to climb the social ladder. Or if they are atop this ladder, they make it a mission that they remain there. Mrs. Bennet tried very hard to have her daughters marry the most socially advanced men and in the end the daughters chose socially respectable men.
