Many horror stories can leave a mark on you. This could be a good mark or a bad one. Is the horror genre good for children to be reading. There are many ways to create suspense in whatever you are watching or reading. The short story “Tell Tale Heart” can definitely be one of the front faces of horror for the age group of 12 to 14 year olds. We student read many different types of genres. Reading these genres can unlock many more things in our learning potential. So does this mean that the horror genre is bad? And my answer is yes. If we are never exposed to this feeling this new genre then when we see it for the first time we will not know what to think. I think the essay “What Is The Horror Genre” is a great read to try and turn people's point of view on kids reading horror. In the essay it shows you what you could expect to see in a horror book. The author says “When suspense is an important element in fiction we may often find that the plot is the most critical part in the story.” Where do you find suspense the most? You could get the wrong message from the story. Sometimes the book can be too scary for you and can leave a mark on you. In the essay “What I The Horror Genre” the author says “ When I first read Dracula I seriously considered hanging garlic on my windows because I believed that vampires could exist. Often horror has its greatest effect on us because we almost believe, or belive while we are reading the book that the events are possible.” In “Tell Tale Heart” This did have the effect on me I actually believed it. This could be good or bad. Good because it teaches you to be afraid of the character and be aware of your surrounding in real life. Bad because you can believe it so much that you could shut down and not handle it anymore.

I think that the story “Tell Tale Heart” has that balance where it can make you believe but not as much where you can shut down. This had a twist ending that I was not expecting. Just like in the essay “What Is The Horror Genre.” the author says “ A way you could add more suspense is by making a twist ending.” “Tell Tale Heart” did this I did not think that the man would shut down and give himself up.
