Dracula being a massive vampire novel, science still plays an important role. In contrast to superstitions, the characters Dr. Seward and Professor Van Helsing are both scientists who use a science perspective to fix the problem; believing it is what strengthens them. They rely on medical knowledge and rational analysis to understand the vampire predicament. Van Helsing says,”Well, you know what we have to contend against; but we, too, are not without strength We have on our side a power of combination—a power denied to the vampire kind; we have sources of science” (Stoker 216). Van Helsing lists the many advantages of science, demonstrating how he views science as a strength in defeating Dracula. As well as using an experimental approach with scientific methods such as blood transfusions to uncover the nature of the problem.
