Bigger is better. That is what people constantly hear in the world around them. This ranges from the biggest sale on Black Friday, to the new supersized burger at McDonalds. People strive to exceed the ordinary and make things extraordinary, and to do this; you go big or go home. One of the best examples of this is the creation of monster trucks. Monster truck rallies have been around since the late 1970’s and were inspired by the basic pick up trucks that got transferred into monster trucks. These rallies are a motor sport entertainment can be found on television or live in a field area. The main attraction of the rallies is the focus on the monster trucks with the freestyle tricks and racing that are performed. These events are vast. It’s a large arena holding large trucks watched by a large crowd of large people drinking large beverages, and that is what America fell in love with. One of the main reasons monster truck rallies is so popular because of the size of trucks. (New Republic)
In the late 1960’s, pick up truck competitions known as the “biggest truck” became very popular. These competitions inspired a small group of men to build an even larger truck to appeal to people and make the competition more popular than it was before. Bob Chandler, the creator of “Bigfoot,” is very famous in monster truck history. His creation of “Bigfoot” opened the eyes to many monster truck lovers, which led to the inspiration to build many more enormous trucks. Throughout the years, several other monster trucks started getting built due to the amount of attention and popularity Bigfoot attracted. The men that started the monster truck building, started an association called Monster Truck Racing (MTRA.) This was the start of the sport’s ...

Needless to say, that experience has changed over time. It began from a simplistic design in 1904 as a motorized bike. However, as time progressed it brought about the introduction of the biker gang era. These were the bad asses image riding their heavy bikes down the highway, rebels who refused to give in to society’s pressures. It was the time of the Hell’s Angels, with their patches, long hair, and untidy beards that became the symbol of freedom on the road. They created the mantra of the bad ass dude on a bad ass American bike and no one was gonna tell him what to
the shiners would soup of a car and use it to out run the cops. They ridge runners knew the back roads and mountain trails better then anyone. With the help of there cars and the knowledge of the labyrinth of roads the ridge runners began to out run the cops. This then started the bragging. Each ridge runner believed they were the fastest driver in the mountains. They began to have competions to see who was truly the fastest. One of the most famous drivers was a man by the name of Junior Johnson. He was a shiner who had been caught and had spent a year in prison. He got out of prison and went back into the fast money life sytle of running shine. In his prime he was considered the fastest man on the ridge. He later made his way to nascar in 1955 and went on to win over 50 races. He then retired in 1966. In 1933, Prohibition was repealed, however the shiners did not quit dtheir reckless ways, they contin...
The green flag drops on the first race in The National Dirt Racing Association(NDRA). It doesn’t matter where people go, on some little road in a small town, people will find a small dirt track. The speedways are mostly always located in city areas where a large amount of people live. After a weekend of racing the teams head to the shop to fix the car up again. Despite the fact, that racing had been around since before 1978; whenever Mr. Robert Smawley introduced NDRA, and later Mr. Bill France introduced NASCAR, more people paid attention to the sport of racing.
When our country was at war, the military identified the need for trucks. Trucks were very important because it was difficult to find away to transport all the supplies, troops, and food. After WW1, this brought an increase in good roads plus an expanding economy. This helped grow the trucking industry. The 1920’s were the years of innovation. The balloon tires were introduced along with the rail road’s that were established “piggy-back” service. The first mechanically refrigerated van was introduced. In 1925, there were 500,000 miles of hard surface roads in the U.S. In 1926, a fully loaded 2 ton truck was driven from New York to San Francisco in five days.
Harley Davidson has built a brand that is more than just the spread eagle on a load rumbling motorcycle, but for those who purchase a Harley they are purchasing a lifestyle, an experience, or piece of American culture if you will. Due to this differentiating factor Harley has been able to charge a premium for its products and still be successful against its lower priced competition. Harley built upon this lifestyle when it created the Harley Owners’ Group (HOG). Harley would promote shows, rallies and rides through HOG in the US and even in other countries. This helped to build its coveted image into more of an exclusive club.
Some say that automotive racing began when the second car was built. For over a hundred years, competition has driven innovation in the car industry, thus the industry maxim “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday.” NASCAR and drag racing contributed greatly to muscle cars’ success. Muscle cars were born from these competitions as factory made race cars. Because of this, the muscle car quickly moved from a low quantity specialty item to the image of the American automotive scene. Each brand had to have one and each one needed better performance and personality than the next. The Golden Age began in the 1960s with the introduction of more performance models such as the Chevy SS Impala and the Ford Galaxy Starliner (Auto Editors).
Trucking has been a relevant career in the United States ever since the 19th century during WWI the army used trucks to transport goods to the soldiers. People in the towns and cities saw they were good transporter so as roads were built and paved more people start owning them. The Interstate Highway System was a big movement for truckers now they could haul there companies goods farther to other cities. The Motor Carrier Act of 1980 helped drivers who went on strike because of the price of gas to run and operate the trucks. Alex Debogorski was a long haul trucker introduced to trucking when he was looking to earn more money to do for his family. As he drove he realized how good the open road looks as the road meet the sky. Now he is on some of CMT’s episodes of Ice Road Truckers, he said If it wasn’t for his parents and wife he wouldn’t have made it. He also open the door for most of the truckers with criminal records. He helped pas the law that states if your drving record is good you can go in for the long haul.
The two bothers Jack and Augustus purchased the company that Jack worked for (Fallsen and Berry) and began the Mack Company. ...es how powerful of a symbol it has become. You wouldn’t consider the fact that someone drives a Honda Accord a defining characteristic of his or her identity but somehow that changes when it becomes a Harley Davidson Heritage Softtail. "Four wheels move the body two wheels move the sole" (Harley Davidson Ad/ 1992). It becomes clear that the motorcycle is much more than a vehicle; it is a manifestation of American values. When you break it down nothing seems more American that freedom, and brotherhood. Film has fully capitalized on these characteristics helping make the motorcycle a powerful image that has had a defining impact on American culture.

"Hey, be careful and don't do anything stupid," my dad said to me right before I hopped into Chase Miller's dark blue Chevy S-10 with a camper shell on the back. I looked at Chase and Tyler Becker and said, "Let's go camping." As Chase pushed down the gas pedal, a big cloud of black smoke shot out of the back of the truck and the smell of burning motor oil filled the cab.
