Well, here we are. The last year of middle school. To some this may be exciting. For there a being given a chance to spread their wings and move on to more challenging and new experiences. But to some this may just be another inevitable step towards reality, and all the hardships that may come with it. Regardless of that, I want to congratulate all of the students, teachers, and faculty for the fact that they put up with all of us for about 288 days, and that you may enjoy the how many days we have of summer break. Also, I would like to thank all the parents and families that came to this celebration today, and that I wish you have an amazing summer break too. Well, first of all I wanted to talk about all the awesome memories we have had this year! The first one being in Mrs. Stacy’s class. If you don’t know Mrs. Stacy then you’re missing out on all the amazing lessons she teaches. She is always coming up with interesting labs for us to …show more content…
do, so that we can get a new angle on what we are learning.
One of the labs I remember is the one involving inertia and gravity. I don’t distinctly remember the name, but in the lab you had to drop several different objects with varying masses one meter from the air. But while doing that you had to time how fast the object fell, and then write a report about how the mass of the object affects how fast the object fell. But you see, I was gone for the whole week prior, so everyone had already finished the lab, so it would of been awkward to ask any of my classmates to help, for you need two people to perform the lab; one person dropping the object, and another person timing it. But, without me even having to ask her, me and Mrs. Stacy did it. Which was much to my relief. Though it may of not met much to her, it did mean a lot to me, so thank you Mrs. Stacy for helping me out with that lab : ). Also, Mrs. Stacy is renowned for owning the 8th grade snack store, which is probably not the actual title, but anyways, she sold water, chips, Cheez-Its, and
a bunch of other tasty snacks for decently low prices. Though, the most favored among all the snacks was the wonderful, spectacular, astounding Pop-tarts. It was the most frequently sold snack at the shop and it came in two flavors: cinnamon and strawberry. It was so popular that even the other teachers went to buy some occasionally! I remember, at one time Mrs. Stacy was being bombarded with buyers asking for the glorious Pop-tarts, and that she had to supply the high demand. But eventually she ran out, and told us that she would buy some more later on in the afternoon, or in her own time, which was a very noble sacrifice for a bunch of Pop-Tart craving kids. But that action only shows her dedication and loyalty to her students, which is something you don’t find in your average middle school. But then again, no way is this an average middle school! (XD) The next teacher was Mrs. Tousley, my incredible math teacher. Now, Mrs. Tousley took math class to another level! In fact she is so devoted to math that she dressed up as Pythagoras to teach us about the Pythagorean theorem (and if you don’t know the Pythagorean theorem I bet Mrs. Tousley would have the pleasure of teaching you XD)! And Mrs. Tousley went all out, wearing a robe, a fake beard and all. Though, it may be just a theory that Mrs. Tousley was pretending to be Pythagoras, some other people say that it could of been the real Pythagoras! But, that is something we 8th graders may never know. Another fun activity Mrs. Tousley had was Pie Day, which was a day where you had to remember as many digits of Pi that you can. And the one with the most correct digits one the delicious prize, which was your own pie! The person in first place had a full sized pie and the person in second place had a slightly smaller pie. Not only that, but you got to choose the flavor of the pie, and if I remember correctly, the winner chose banana cream pie, and the second place winner chose a Boston cream pie, which are both awesome flavors. Also, I remember both of the winners sharing both of their pies with their friends, which was very nice of them. Oh! And not let's forget about all the funny videos Mrs. Tousley showed us. The one I loved the most was the slope video, which involved a skier skiing up and down a mountain. The skier would say “Puff Puff Positive” as he skied up the mountain, and when he went down the mountain he would say “Nice Negative, Nice Negative” and when he was skiing on flat terrain he would say “This is Zero Fun, This is Zero Fun” and finally when the skier heads towards the edge, the skier didn’t notice that it was a cliff, so when he fell he said “UNDEFINED!”. It was really funny because the terms were so wacky and creative, but they proved to be effective, for I still remember that whole video! And we learned all about sloped near the beginning of the year!! But in the end that video only shows how devoted and innovative Mrs. Tousley really is. Next up we have Mr. Perigny, which has to be one of the coolest teachers I have ever known. In his class we often take notes, though to some it was a strain, I have always enjoyed taking notes. And while his class is taking notes Mr. Perigny would always add stuff to the notes we were taking, such as explaining what a word actually meant, like the word ironic. In class one day he had a whole mini lesson on what the word ironic actually meant and how people almost always mix it up with the word coincidence. In fact, he showed us a the song “Ironic” by Alanis Morissette and told us that every phrase she used in that song isn’t actually irony (“the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning”). Phrases such as “An old man turned ninety-eight. He won the lottery and died the next day” were included in that song, but aren’t actually ironies and more like really unfortunate coincidences. Mr. Perigny has showed us many interesting, funny videos, one of the first being Renaissance Man which is a parody of the great song “Blister in the Sun” by the Violent Flames. This song had a very catchy tune and I remember having that song stuck in my head for at least a week. In the song they talk about many Renaissance men such as Dante, Leonardo de Vinci, Michelangelo, and Shakespeare. Mr. Perigny also showed us a lot of interesting movies too, one of them being the Amistad. The movie Amistad talks about a group of slaves that take over a boat and by doing so they killed all of their capturers. But, the real question in this movie was if the slaves were free or still enslaved? There becomes a huge court case that goes to the Supreme Court. I would tell you more about the movie, but I don’t want to spoil it for you if you possibly wanted to watch such an intense and intriguing movie. Besides all the notes and videos we did a lot of projects in his class. One of them being the Monument project. In this project we either had to redesign a monument or create an entirely new one about a new topic. This project was intertwined with the Washington trip. A lot of people went on that trip, (with me being one of the exceptions) and said it was fun and exciting and that they got to eat a lot of awesome food and see a lot of fascinating museums and monuments. Anyways, back to the project. In this project you had to draw a monument with all the measurements and shading/coloring. We also did another project about Andrew Jackson, and by picking a card you either with or against Andrew Jackson. You then had to write an essay about how Andrew Jackson was a good/bad president. I found this essay one of the more difficult projects Mr. Perigny had assigned to us. But, Mr Perigny always helped out his class, and always tried to make it a tad easier on us by playing games occasionally, my favorite being Pictonairy. Overall, Mr. Perigny is a funny and awesome teacher and I bet all the future 7th graders will like him too. Now, Mrs. Johnson is one of the most determined teachers I have ever known. Unlike the other teachers she expected a lot out of you, and always made sure you would step out of your comfort zone. One of these things was reading in class, to some it may of been easy peasy, but I have always been afraid of public speaking, so I got more and more worrisome the closer it got to my turn. But, sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone to actually learn something. But usually after each book we finished we got to watch a movie that corresponded with it. After reading the Lord of the Flies by William Golding and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain we got to watch the movies. Both of them served to be great movies, though the Adventures of Tom Sawyer one differed from the book tremendously. Besides reading, we did many assignments on a virtual program called Studysync. Though most of the time we answered questions about a short story or a poem, one time we got to write our own short horror story! I have always been fond of writing stories, and find it a fun past time. But, when everyone else wrote at least 2 pages I wrote about 8. I just find it hard to stop writing whenever I start. The story I wrote was about Mark Fisher and Neversean, who are both stuck in an psychotic doctor’s laboratory. That assignment had to be one of best assignments I have ever done, and I did it not because I had to do, I did it because it because it was fun and I loved doing it, which is rarely seen in any assignment that requires actual work. We also did other fun projects like the Argumentative essay and the most recent one being the the Soundtrack of the Year, which is a project that required you to find a bunch of songs that reflected your year. That project was pretty fun, but it sure doesn't beat the short story. And between all of these projects and papers Mrs. Johnson made sure we had a little break to recoup. Mrs. Johnson had a lot of games such as Chess and Monopoly, but the most popular had to be Uno. In my RTI a group of my classmates always played it whenever they had the chance. They always laughed and talked and had a good time. While most of the eighth grade was off in Washington I played Uno with my friends too, and I can understand why my classmates loved it so much. And Mrs. Johnson has always been one to encourage her students to follow her dreams, though they may seem to be out of your reach. In fact, Mrs. Johnson really helped me out with one of my dreams, to be part of the Executive Board. I was thinking about joining but I wasn’t sure I would do well, but then Mrs. Johnson out of the blue said I should join. So, aiding her word I joined, and here I am now, reading a speech to you all! So, thank you Mrs. Johnson. Mrs. Johnson is just one of the amazing teachers we have at the school. And, that's mostly it, I hope you enjoyed it and that I didn’t stutter too much. I also want to wish you a great summer, and I hope to see all of my eighth grade friends and acquaintances in the high school! Cheers to this year and may the next be the very best!!
The ways of communication is vary, and we interact each other through the unique communication each other. 500 days of summer, which is one of the famous movie, we can recognize some important communication theory. In this paper, I would like to write about focus on the social penetration theory revealed in 500 days of summer. In this movie, some essential perspectives of penetration theory are revealed: depth and breadth of penetration, stages of the penetration theory, and verbal and non-verbal communication. In this essay, I am going to discuss these three characteristics revealed in the movie, 500 days of summer with my observations.
There is not much to do during spring break in Smallville except for going out and making your own fun. Now what I mean by that is you can have good fun. For example, you can go bowling, have a party or just chill out with your friends. Then there is bad fun. For example, go egging or buy paintball guns and shoot stuff. My friends and I decided to have bad fun for spring break. When we first started egging it was only six of us. Earl, David, Charles, Brandon, Jerrid, and myself. As the first couple of days went by we realized that other people in the city was starting to form teams of their own to get us back for egging them. Let me tell you a little bit about my crew. Earl is my right hand man. He was giving the nickname cruel intentions for a reason. David is my best friend. He is a cool, laid back type of guy. Charles is my cousin. If u see David, Charles, and I at once people would think we was all brothers. Charles can be quiet sometimes but he also has a wild side to him. Brandon is my other cousin. He is the live wire out of the bunch. Brandon is pretty much ready for anything. If its fun he will join. Jerrid says one word about once every ten minutes. But his action speak louder than words. And then there is me. I go by the name Marcus. Some of my friends in Springfield call me Marc-d or mc. I am a quiet, laid back, live wire type of guy.
Do you ever get stressed over work from school or your job? Well, that is why breaks and vacations are so important. Stress is pressure or tension applied to a material object. When people have stress or are stressed, they do not need to worry about it, stress is a normal physical response to events that make you feel threatened or upset your balance in some way. Stress is your body’s way of protecting you. When working properly, it helps you stay focussed on what you're doing, keeps your energy flowing, and helps you be more aware of what is going on. Being stressed isn’t always a long lasting situation, it can easily be demolished by taking frequent breaks in between activities, events, assignments, and other stressful moments. Another way to relieve stress, is to have one or two days in the week that are dedicated to your relaxation. Getting stressed from school is extremely common. Children especially get stressed because their system can not handle too many things at once because they are still developing humans. Your health will deteriorate over time if we don't take a break from work, research concludes. Many people need the time and space away from what they experience every day in order to recognize harmful or self-destructive patterns in their life. Many parents, teachers, and adults complain that summer vacation for schools is such an amazing idea because, there is much knowledge loss throughout the break, however scientists have proven that to live a happy, satisfying, and successful life, everyone needs to give their mind a break from stress at school and work thereby proving that summer break is necessary.
Wow, three years have passed and the last day is just as long as the first. Three years of hard discipline and learning to get used to homework every night. Three years of standing on the front steps waiting for my parents and saying goodbye to my teachers. I never thought the goodbye might be permanent. 6th grade came and I was looking up at those giant 8th graders, and now I guess I’m one of them. 6th grade, and I was saying hello, and now 8th grade has come and it’s gone from introductions to goodbyes as my last days as a middle school student wind down.
Have you ever been in love? Did it last? If not, how did it change you after the debacle? All of these questions could be answered by Tom Hansen, easily identified as the main character of the movie (500) Days of Summer. In the movie, Tom recalls of the time he spent with a girl named summer who he was madly in love with. Things didn’t work out with them however, which took a major toll on his life. (500) Days of summer is a good movie because it gives the audience an idea of the effects of being in love. The order of events within the movie engages the reader to see the plot in a different way.
This class was a lot of fun. There was grocery shopping for culinary class. I had a group of four students who needed some help with reading the recipes and preparing the dishes. On Monday we would choose a healthy recipe, make a grocery list and then head to Sobey’s on Tuesdays to purchase the food. Wednesday was prep day where we would get ready to cook and eat on Thursday. As with shop class, this class was another favorite for me. On one day early on in my practicum there was a day scheduled for town clean up. On that day I had a group of students and we were given a designated area downtown to pick up and bag whatever garbage we found. Myself and my group collected and filled over ten bags of garbage. The students seemed to have a good time. Many treasures were found while clearing garbage that day like money, lost photo I.D., and gold ring. I helped students do project on social justice issues in both grade nine and ten. The students and I researched different topics and made power point projects to present to the class. The subjects we worked on were child slavery, refugees, and human trafficking. Some days were spent in the science lab working with models to build the structures of
On behalf of the Humphrey graduating Class of 2006, I would like to thank the School District Board of Directors, administrators, teachers along the entire path, and any more members of the Humphrey School District staff. Also, thank you parents, families, and friends for your love and support.
Summer and vacations are synonymous, especially with my family. Does Chevy Chase and summer vacation ring a bell? With a family of six, anything is possible. There are two types of excursions that we take every year. I refer to one as my family vacation and the other as my family trip. My family vacation to the beach is an annual event, but my family trip destination is always different. This past summer my family and I went to Wyoming. Both experiences were the highlights of my summer but for very different reasons.
Today, as we graduate, with degree nearly in hand, I challenge each of you to make a difference in whatever you do. Remember that life didn't end when we re-entered school. Life continued throughout our program. Even when stretched to the limit, life only got more challenging. And now, graduating, life only changes pace. Our degree completion is not really an ending as much as a new beginning as we re-enter our lives of work and home. We thank all of our family, friends, instructors and co-workers who helped see us through this process. Thank you for this opportunity and good luck to you all.
Now I would like to take the time to thank everyone who has helped me get this far. First of all, thank you to all the teachers. None of us would be here without you always pushing our academic abilities to the fullest. Jessica Parker a.k.a. my partner in crime as Mr. Tri would refer to us. You made everyday coming to school worthwhile. Hillary Laswell, who would leave third period to go steal flowers from horticulture and give them to Mrs. Granillo with me. My brother Jeramie who always said, "If anyone is mean to you, I'll take care of it." My Mom, thank you for always believing in me and putting up with me when I was a real jerk.
I am extremely proud to be given the opportunity to address you all during this wonderful and momentous celebration. Each and every one of you deserves the greatest congratulations. You have paid a price to be here; put sweat, frustration, anger, effort, tears, blood and now triumph into your years at Napier High School. You all should be incredibly proud of yourselves. You know that you make your life whatever you want. And what you put in, you get out. Like the cross country girls' motto: "Where you find success you find sacrifice," if you give, you shall receive. But don't expect results right away. Some things take time. And don't expect your goals to come easily. Life is filled with adversity; expect obstacles at every corner. Why? Because chances are they're going to be there. But it's not what happens when you are faced with adversity, it's how you react to it. Be classy through triumph and failure and if you get knocked down or stepped on. Get up, brush yourself off and start running again - no wait, that's another story. Nevertheless, you will face obstacles; the key to movi...
Education experts every year pose the question, do children really need such long summer breaks? Apparently, such a long break disrupts their development and comes in the way of their learning process. But perhaps educationists aren’t really aware of what all do children do during their vacations these days. A plethora of courses, classes, camps and workshops involving swimming, art, personality development, music, coding (few years back it was just general computer studies) and the like has given rise to a new seasonal industry of sorts. Even the trips taken in the name of the holidays seem laden with exotic destinations and customized experiences packed into a short period of time. We can ‘do’ Europe in ten days and Australia in a week, and come back with overflowing suitcases and digital memories which have already been shared real time, and commented upon. Holidays are, in some ways, no longer a break but an intensified search for experiences not normally encountered in everyday life.
There is a tradition around the world of traveling to some exotic location in much awaited summer vacations every year. People anxiously wait for the start of summer vacations of their children’s from school and colleges to spend some quality time with them on the exquisite travel destination of the world. There are many Travel Apps available on Android and iOS platforms which helps users to figure out the best suited destination for them around the world for summer vacations.
School is a thing that nearly all children have to attend at some point in their young adult life. Every year, students are encouraged to come back to school for another year of education. Being asked to go to school nearly year round, students are granted breaks in their school year. Most popularly, breaks are held near holidays or in specific seasons such as, "Summer break" and, "Spring break." Most schools have their school year planned. They have students to go to school for the majority of the year, and the students get break for relaxation time. Pretty easy, isn't it? But recently, people have been stuck on one question. "What times should the breaks be?" For breaks such as Summer break that already have a proposed period of
This activity allowed me to be with my friends and with my teacher and have fun. It was also a chance for us to know our teacher better. We found out interesting facts about him and how he was there for us if we needed anything. He told us how to survive Edward R. Murrow since he also went to this high school. It was fun because he advised us to go to him if we ever needed help on anything. I felt happy since the lab room was cleaner and my teacher wouldn't be stressed out on grading our homework. After this activity I came home late and was very tired. My teacher was very happy and even took before and after photos to compare. I would have done this even without this project assignment because I like helping out my teachers in my free time. This activity made me realize how much hard work he does everyday for his students. If helping him grade things will decrease the amount of stress he has, I’m willing to help him
