The Benefits of NASA and its Contribution to our Society The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is a space agency based in the United States. It is currently held responsible for space programs/and aerospace and aeronautics research in the United States. Throughout the years NASA has truly achieved a great impact on our society. Even with a federal budget of over $18 billion NASA still manages to bypass through these budget cuts. NASA propitiously influences our economy, increasing the United States’ economical standards. It has truly been a long quest for astronomers and many researchers as they have been expanding the horizon of the universe. NASA has greatly contributed to our knowledge of the universe. Multiple missions have been conducted to take a strong grip of our galaxy. Many observatories have been on the case ever since, the entire budget that NASA has inherited has been worthwhile. Many observatories belonging to NASA, such as, the Chandra X-ray Observatory with an x-ray telescope is capable of retrieving incredible data on the observed galaxies; it is considered as one of the most powerful, vigilant telescopes that were ever to be constructed. This telescope is very beneficial for researchers who are exploring the early stages of our universe and celestial objects in space. In 2008, NASA has built yet another powerful telescope, known as the Gamma-ray Large Area Telescope, now known as Fermi. NASA Funding The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was booming in the late 1960s because the U.S. invested over 4.5 percent of the Federal Budget (Bolden). Unfortunately, in the recent years, the Government has slashed funding for many of NASA’s projects in an attempt to cut back on the deficit and boost the economy. Despite the plummet in NASA's budget, the program has proved that it's prominence in the U.S., space programs like NASA continue to face difficulty in increasing its funds. Although, NASA leads evidently, the government doesn’t think NASA is worth more than 0.47 percent of the federal budget.
Bill Nye, the “Science Guy,” asserts, “NASA is an engine of innovation and inspiration as well as the world's premier space exploration agency, and we are well served by politicians working to keep it that way, instead of turning it into a mere jobs program, or worse, cutting its budget.” The United States of America’s government is currently in an economic debt encompassing billions of US dollars. Unfortunately, the government has attempted to balance finances by cutting the funding for most programs, including NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. NASA, in over half a century, has brought the most economic, technological, and social benefits than any other program held here in the USA, as well as any other extraterrestrial program in the world. The last thing this nation needs is the cutting of NASA finances. NASA should be receiving more funding because the Earth will not last forever and humans will need a place to live, there’s a curiosity within humans about the vast universe they live in, there is evidence to suggest life on other planets, the USA’s superpower status will be improved, and the economical income NASA brings is more efficient than any other governmental or educational program.

NASA is a symbol of all things American, including the positive and the negative. NASA displays technical excellence, unflappable determination, and a sense of innovation that some could call uniquely American. NASA also shows a profound organizational malaise, an unwillingness to respond to new technologies, an inability to operate safely, and a bloated bureaucracy that refuses to stay on budget. NASA is quite simply, the best and worst of the United States, summed up in one organization.
Just recently a major discovery was found with the help of a device known as The Hubble Telescope. This telescope has just recently found what many astronomers believe to be a black hole, After being focuses on a star orbiting empty space. Several pictures of various radiation fluctuations and other diverse types of readings that could be read from that area which the black hole is suspected to be in.
Think about NASA and all it's done for the better of humanity. Without it being funded, there is hardly anything to fuel any future interest in the space program nor would our world learn anymore about itself. NASA needs this funding to stay alive, to answer the world’s questions, and show everyone how it important it is to keep NASA
The question regarding the value in financially supporting large American institutions, such as NASA, has indeed generated prevalent debate. Bobby Braun addresses his individual view on this issue in his article entitled “Space Technology: A Critical Investment for Our Nation’s Future,” published on October 27, 2011, in which he argues that the United States government must continue to invest in NASA. Braun strengthens the logic and persuasiveness of his argument by incorporating facts and examples about the benefits of NASA’s contributions to American society in order to support his central claims and by asserting the long-term influence of NASA’s existence as well as a powerful call to action in order to emphasize the significance of the organization to the reader.
The most common misconception people have is that NASA doesn’t really do anything for us anymore. Completely to the contrary; NASA is like a plant. Just like a plant takes in CO2 then puts out life giving oxygen as a byproduct, so does NASA take in existing “primitive” technology and world issues and put out life saving applications as a by-product. If anyone has been alive anytime after 1958 you have benefited from at least 30 of NASA’s 30,000 different applications. They’ve created fire-fighting gear, laser heart surgery, and weather satellites that prevent the deaths of thousands because of forewarned hurricanes.
In July of 1958, President Eisenhower passed the National Aeronautics and Space Act, which established the National Aeronautics and Space Administration as a response to the Soviet Union's launch of Sputnik nine months earlier. That administration, now known worldwide as NASA, has become an icon of space exploration and mankind's accomplishments. Who would have thought that fifty years later, NASA's future would be so uncertain? Congress has recently proposed a bill that would significantly cut funding from the NASA's Constellation program. These budget cuts are unnecessary and are counterproductive to the original idea of the space program.
This essay is being written to prove that NASA spending has a negative impact on American society. Continuing NASA and the programs run by it is harmful to American society and Government. NASA harms the economy. NASA also harms the environment in which we live. And the money that NASA spends could be used to help solve problems in our country, not on another planet.
Centuries ago, people gazed into the night sky wondering what it was that they were looking at. When astronomers first started to study the night sky, like Galileo, Copernicus and even modern day astronomers, they all shared one goal, and that was to see further than anyone has ever before. The invention of the Hubble Space Telescope changed the study of astronomy forever. Astronomers were seeing and learning more in just days of the launch of the telescope than past astronomers had in their lifetimes. The Hubble Space Telescope is the most technologically advanced telescope to enter space. Its advanced technology has made it possible to obtain countless amounts of data about space and open many doors in the exploration of space. Its accuracy has and still is proving/debunking the myths of space.
NASA’s research and innovation looked promising, but it came at a cost. Money, resources, and spacecraft accidents, most famously Apollo 13 all hindered NASA’s research. In the 21st century, the debate over funding for NASA is at its peak since the birth of the organization in 1958, especially when there are numerous problems throughout the world. Is the money spent on space exploration worth the advantages and advances it contributes to society? When considering this topic, one might ask themselves, why explore space?
Mankind has always been fascinated with exploring the unknown. From sailing to distant lands to someday setting foot on other planets, the spirit of exploration is the same. Bur now with the current economic situation and the high cost of sending people to space, NASA is being looked at as a way to free up some much needed funds. Although, there is many problems here on planet Earth that need addressing, the benefits of space exploration far out weight the disadvantages. Space exploration has given us more advanced technology, advances in the medical field, and a boost to the economy and these facts cannot be disputed.
By being in a very technologically advanced era, scientists can invent revolutionary devices never thought of. NASA is doing that right now and has been doing that since it began. They are not only climbing the stairs in space exploration but in the medical industry, too. Nevertheless, they are forever changing millions of lives by using all they have discovered. Most of all, they are teaching people a life lesson, to always use the things you have for the greater good. NASA has achieved profound success ever since their start in 1958 and they will continue to make discovery and innovation their first and foremost goal for years to come.
This telescope is the result of an international collaboration of 17 countries lead by NASA, European Space Agency and Canadian Space Agency. It will help us determine the geometry of the universe and enable us to establish whether the universe will expand forever.
